Albertina and Helsy33 do the Cycle Show
This weekend just past saw the Cycle Show in London's Earl's Court Exhibition Centre. Hurrah for the Annual Droolfest! I teamed up with Helsy33 and another friend named Ross (he really needs to be on PdC. We did our best to sell it to him) and in we marched, armed with cameras and determined not to be tempted. Our bank balances after all are not proverbial black holes (bah!). Theoretically, living as I do in London, I had the easiest journey of the three of us to get there, only nobody told me there was a half marathon in central London. Surrounded and trapped by 15,000 runners I ended up doing my best Niels Albert impression across the middle of Hyde Park, but no matter, it was good for me. There are MANY photos on the flip. Helsy will doubtless add more. She is after all a Proper Photographer.
The fashion this year seems to be for all manner of bike parts to be displayed in see through cases containing blue lights. Funky though, no?
The Specialized stand was something of a Cancellara fest. Here is Tony's yellow jersey bike from the Tour, in front of his mustard jersey from the Vuelta. So very yellow. Only someone named Spartacus could get away with this!
Here's one for Nikki....I present Christian Vandevelde's shoes! My Dad called me a geek for photographing these. Is he right, or was this in fact a very normal thing to do...?
Whose legs are these? And more importantly, just what is Helsy33 looking at?
Arty Viner. I heart Italian bikes.
More blue lights. You see, it really is all the rage.
Thor's green jersey Cervelo. DROOL....I have nothing else to add.
Sweetness from Zipp....
I want these wheels. But am I alone in thinking the font of 'Lightweight' is just slightly naff?
The Dude is in Australia but his jersey is in London. I hope he remembered to take another one with him. There were a couple of giant piccies of Mr House around the Condor stand but we couldn't quite pluck up the courage to ask if we could take one home. Instead we took a picture of the pictures. This seemed to amuse the young men on the next door stand who came and asked whether we liked him. I think I may have blushed rather dramatically.
Now what is going on here? You tell me. No idea what this gentleman was up to. Perhaps he always dresses thus? The photo is blurry as I was terrified he might turn round and see me taking it....but on second thoughts, really, what did he expect?!
Would they have noticed if I'd nicked a couple of these...?
The Dogma....oh my, what a thing of sensual and boundless beauty. Bah for not having much money....BAH I say! And yes, that really is glitter! I like sparkles, I like Pinarellos (Pinarelli?!)...so what object on earth could be more fair? Excuse me, I think I need to sit down.
I'm not usually a fixie type of girl but this is just pure retro joy
Prize booty! Because it's all about the freebies. This poster was lovingly conveyed home on my bike. But carrying a large poster in one's hand while cycling is no easy task, especially if the thing is to reach home in pristine condition. But hey, what's a crumple here and there?

I think that along with Helsy33 you are a proper photographer
This is wonderful. I think I’m a fan of the blue lights. And I’m a little bit dismayed to realise that the glittered Dogma looks gorgeous to me ;) Thanks for this!

Interesting.
Could be a delicate operation though….we wouldn’t want Niels singed!!

What, Frinking wants to singe Niels?!

It's cyclocross! Why isn't it splattered with mud yet?

Well it did get a bit wet. It drizzled on the way home.
Niels looks unfeasibly clean in the picture too, no?

I was at work. You know, that thing which requires you to be in the office all day.
It was certainly a case of Bah-ness.

Tell me about it!
But how will I ever be able to afford a sparkly Dogma without it? :-(

I agree on the Fixie.
Pinarello needs to make a steel road frame again. Just sad that their only metal bike is the Pista (which used to be called the Surprise and was fairly low end as a road bike).
Great photos though. Love the Bora’s

Never been a big Pinarello fan until
I saw that fixie. Man is that pretty.
I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?

Come now Jens
We both agree that my Editor’s League team is excellent.
We both agree that Finland is under appreciated
We both agree that cyclocross is the most superior form of racing
See? Lots in common.

It looks nice but it's just an average
7005 T6 alloy frame. The seatpost is a $20 Kalloy single bolt model. I would think a Campy Record one would be used for the show…

Thanks for the report Albertina?
‘Lightweight’ is just slightly naff?
“naff” = What does that mean?

Ok, checked the Pinarello sight
they switched to 6061 alloy. Same idea though.

You can seriously tell the proportions of different metals in that?
just from a photograph?

I used to have a Pinarello Surprise
which became the Pista. When I owned the road version it was 7005 T6. It’s changed though, but I was just guessing before.

Lightweight
Makes unbelievably light wheels for folks that will spare no expense in their quest to build UCI illegal bikes. That being said, they were used by Zabel and Ullrich so I’m sure they are very rideable and fast. Just can’t ever see owning some.

I find it mildly disturbing
… that I knew they were Boonen’s legs at a glance. I have not studied any part of him in any great detail (and if we were awarding ‘hottitude’ points… well, he’d probably score higher than the Chicken with me… probably…)
by Lou... on Oct 13, 2009 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well you could attribute that to the QS shorts and the WC stripes, rather than being familiar with every inch of his musculature ;-)

I’m being forced into uni when i need the internet, problem is the only time I’m not busy atm is in the evenings and i don’t want to walk to uni by myself, sooo i thought i’d be clever and bring my hard drive so i can put up some pics…except i forgot to put the photos on my hard drive :(
Hopefully the internet will be fixed by tomorrow. I can live in hope right.
