Glaciers?
I wasn’t watching the presentation – and this is the important question…
appaently schleck, bert and LA on stage.. want a pic..

Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
no you don't
they didn’t look good and Andy looked awkward and a bit lost. And the outfit…
Has it finished now?
My picture is stuck on that image of the Tourmalet with its hand on its hip

I guess we'll have to rely on photos for the fashion analysis then

Time for lunch at 13:00, Andy looked a bit underdressed.

Oh please tell me he didn't!!!

the baggy jeans were the worst
or the ill-fitting jacket
Thats it... I'm going to speak to that man!!

Did he say that?

Bryuneel: "As far as I remember there has not been a Tour where the strongest guy hasn't won."
(Forgot about Pereiro, I guess)
Did you see his ascent of alpe d'huez
cadel only wishes he had that kind of kick, no way anyone was better than him in that race.
Oh dear

and that's one of the better pictures,
he looked much worse on the stage where you could see the jeans and all ao the jacket.
wekl thor is in jacket and shirt... but what about the pants??

hhmm thinking he isn't that bad, being he is young..
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
But he's not THAT young! I knew how to dress up when I was his age!

But he has grown in in a different world to us.....
I’m happy to give him the benefit of the doubt at this stage… If he does it in 3 or 4 years… hmmmm

No, in Lux people are generally fairly wealthy and dress nicely
Andy must be an exception.
If I just had one more gear, I...
"fairly wealthy" & "dress nicely" don't necessarily always go together
(& I bet Andy isn’t short of a few quid).
I’ve been to Luxembourg. Once. Can’t say I noticed either way.
I should qualify my response with this
I live 45 minutes from Lux city and most of the people his age in Lux (in the city anyways) tend to dress up often when out and about..
If I just had one more gear, I...
The only good thing
is that when he gets a bit older he will already have a wardrobe full of old-man clothes
hey!
Not all scientists are badly dressed.
Although I do frequently pass a guy on the stairs at work who wears shorts, knee high socks and sandals, and has a lovely collection of knitted vests.
Sounds more like an inventor to me
does he like cheese, too?
Or a reumbent rider.

It assuredly will be

I'd take Contador first.....
But hey.. andy is looking HOT to me!!
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
pretty OT, but about fashion disasters,
have you seen what Rafa has been wearing lately?
same here,
I was talking about those shorts, not the stuff he’s been wearing all year.
i'd take him HOT & Sweaty!
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"

Shit shouldn't make a fun comment like that..
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
I think they all looked a bit uncomfortable on that stage,
wasn’t a happy sight. But Conta looked very happy when they took pictures of just him alone with the route plan.
One of these things jsut doesn't belong.
Andy…you know why?
He’s the only one with a contract with a guaranteed Protour status next year.

Leather jacket?

You mean Laurent Jalabert?
Doper is a little irrelevant now… Also because that was how everyone race than
Jaja has never been officially accused
not to mention sanctioned and weeping on TV.
We may think that he is part of that generation but he hasn’t made an ass out of himself and cycling the way Tricky Dick Virenque has.
Ooh.. Get the confussion..
Had put the wrong name on it but the story stands..
And can’t blame him.. If you look to the top 20’s of the Tour in that time you saw everyone doped
But I guess it's different if you denie than that you dope after the Festina-thing..
Well.. Il would be not logic.. Or probably missing some points
Jens are you really an American masquerading as a Swede?
You make many a reference to very American things. Me thinks you’re really a yank!
If I just had one more gear, I...
sigh
How many times do we have to repeat this? It has been definitively established that Jens is a Norwegian masquerading as a Swede, and this whole American pop culture stuff is just a ruse to throw the immigration authorities off his trail.
Jo, Jens?
A Norwegian masquerading as a Swede?
You know those are fighting words!
If I just had one more gear, I...
Ah, yes

Apparently he's also the most interesting man in the world

No, with Virenque it's different
He was the biggest whining douche ever, denying everything as last man standing on his team, and then he finally did admit. And France & Le Tour, you know, the people always taking a bizarrely righteous stance against doping, have embraced him once again.
Bah.
when I first started watching the Tour live
was when Virenque was winning all the polka dots
It’s amazing what a legend he is in France despite everything
Moo
bit of a joke too though
when i hear him mentioned it is usually with a snicker at how ridiculous he was
Isn't the Virenque-love
mostly among the mainstream fans in France. The ones who aren’t necessarily fanatics but just exposed to the Tour in the summer and like the spectacle on TV and at the roadside?
Very snappy
I always thought girls have it tougher when it comes to dressing up, as there are so many options. But cyclists have shown us yet again that it is not so easy to just throw on a suit.
I tend to think there are many things worse than boring
For example, that white embellished suit Fabian wore to some awards ceremony. Just awful. (Don’t tell Lou I said that.)
Tougher?
Formal occasions are really, really simple… black pants, white shirt, black jacket/blazer, and give the Blundstone boots a good polish.
(No, I am female – honest!)
+1
And I look far better in skirts anyway. They cover the thighs ;-)

Very strange trousers if they don't even cover your thighs...
undies?

You know what I mean ;-) You can still see thigh size in trousers!

Yes, but my interpretation was more fun :)

I don't think I've ever worn hotpants in my life!
Apart from maybe over ballet tights…once ;-)

2010 Course Summary
1 prologue,
9 flat stages,
6 mountain stages and 3 summit finishes,
4 medium mountain stages,
1 individual time-trial stage (59 km)
From official website
3 summit finishes
Ax 3 Domain (Plateau de Bonascre), Morzine and Tourmalet
But Mende is also a finishing climb that will make gaps and what about Station des Rousses? “A 14 km final climb” sounds like maybe like the first climb in 2008 won by Ricco?
They kept saying Morzine
but that is the start/bottom of the climb …. it finishes up top at Avoriaz
Moo
an uphill kick for the tdf, also used in paris-nice (conta won in 2007)
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
So little in the way of time-trialing
and the summit finishes should make this a nice climbing test. maybe this tour will be closer than last.
even though he's the fastest,
he’ll need the dominant train to win sprint after sprint like he did this year
Andy's tiny shoulders make him look very young and akward
Much like an elementary school kid. Shoulder shrugs Andy, shoulder shrugs!
If I just had one more gear, I...
Ohhh poor Andy, stuck in the middle...
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
Maybe that's why Andy didn't dress up
he realized that he was there as a buffer between Contador and LA, and didn’t want to risk his nice clothes in the tussle that may yet happen.
Oh God , i was going to swear and be really rude.. but deleted...
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
Swear about what? Rude about what?
If there were a tussle, I’m assuming it would have been of the physical variety. If that were so, Bert would have no chance :)
If I just had one more gear, I...
Someon could do nasty things to someone else here

There could be some sad and miserable puppies after that finish. Can’t decide if I think it’s a good thing.
btw.. PR 2009
14 187,5 Tilloy à Sars-et-Rosières 2,4km
and
16 176,5 Hornaing à Wandignies-Hamage 3,7km
Only Couldn’t find the stars..
this is great. (the cobbles i mean)
I remember armstrong complaining so much about the cobbles in 2004. I wonder what he thinks now?

I can't wait to see

Cav doing the casual thing, and Pippo in a team suit

now there, pippo, there's a nice suit
armstrong looks like his suit is a little too small. Off the rack?
Then he needs a better tailor ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Lance's suit = way too big in the shoulder and chest.
Bert looks very good in his suit, but Lance not so much. There’s no reason for a guy with 5% body fat to wear a suit that is so relaxed in the upper body. It just makes him look like he’s about to fall over onto his face.

A darker tie would have helped too
That pale blue one was not good.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Indeed.
Bert had the dark skinny tie working for him. Considering how thin these guys are, the skinny tie is a good option.

Bert looked great, but Pippo may have pipped him :)
The skinny tie was definitely the right option.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Perhaps it was on purpose.
As in, “Look how much of that retirement upper body weight I’ve lost lately, punk.”
well should be a good tour
some cobbles, maybe some good bordures up north – frinking and tedvdw and lopex can report. Go through Will’s back yard in the alps. Plenty of great cols and some mtn top finishes. Including the tourmalet after a rest day. Final day flat TT – brad bordeaux will be there.
Hopefully armstrong will be there with the shack, contador with astana, and bruyneel with astana but actually working (and tweeting) for radio shack. Daily polemica at the café.
Treachery at it's finest!
Just like the good old days in France :)
If I just had one more gear, I...
Well. I defintely are not arround the cobbles. If I'm not gone I will watch in Rotterdam but: C'est ca
That's bad timing...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Glad to hear it
Do you record the stages for later or just give it a miss?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Just miss. But after i see Conta isin yellow and Cav has five stages and don't care that much anymore
That's a good point
I like the spectacle anyway..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
The only thing that would make it better
Is if Garmin put itching poweder in tCav’s shorts before the final stage. It also might be the only way they stop him.

No Alpe d'Huez two years in a row?
Very surprising. It didn’t happen for more than 30 years.
I love the cobbles, and the Tourmalet double.
Stage 16 is a real monster.
Ô col Bayard, Ô Tourmalet, à côté du Galibier, vous êtes de la pale et vulgaire bibine !
I know! I was psyching myself up to climb it too ;-/

Not too surprising, I think
I don’t think they want to “waste” Alpe D’Huez, so to speak, before stage 10. Save it for next year when they can put it in the final week and have it mean more (like in 2008).
Conta thinking “take the pic already!”
ok, this is from a few months ago, but how did I miss this pic of Thor and Lance at a presentation of “The Lance Armstrong Show” in Oslo
Thor looks like he's about to lynch him

I'm not taking this race seriously until they produce the dolphins.
A few more pics on the official site—where they’ve removed Cav from the start list but still have hopes for Contador.
Perhaps Andy thought he was going to the presentation for this race
and that would explain his attire?
Oooo look,
Benat Intxausti is there too! :-))

Having looked at other photos based on yours and Ted's research
I’m inclining towards LeMevel. deignan’s face is a different shape. Contextually LeMevel makes more sense too. Hair…hmmm…
