2009 Canadian Cyclocross Championships
(Oct 15 9:36 pm MDT - edited to correct the link to "last year")
My husband and I made it to nationals again this year on Saturday, but it was a lot different than last year- way colder (with snow), and with a 4-month-old baby in tow. A brief photo summary (more details here on my sometime-blog):
Chloe in her snowsuit with daddy
New course feature #1 - sandpit
New course feature #2 - flyover scaffolding-ramp (with eventual elite mens' repeat champ Geoff Kabush)
We took a number of photos of eventual winner Geoff Kabush
Womens' podium (1. Alison Sydor, 2. Pepper Harlton, 3. Natasha Elliott)
Elite Mens' podium (1. Geoff Kabush, 2. Derrick St. John, 3. Aaron Schooler)
And, for good measure, a much cuter photo of Chloe in her PdC onesie, now that it isn't actually miles too big! You can almost see that she does not favour either black socks or white socks, but instead pink socks with rattles on them, and believes that all cyclists should wear the same.

Is that snow on the ground? It's only October!

scary part...
is that it was +34C here only 3 weeks ago, we had really no autumn/fall season at all this year. (or maybe we get it now, snow’s melting today and +14C tomorrow)

I know we all acclimatise to where we live
but I’m still always impressed that those of you who live in cold climates choose to go outdoors for anything other than necessities like food. It’s 25 degrees C here today ;)

Very cool!
And Chloe is adorable in her PdC onesie.

Looks freezing :-)
Fun times, and Chloe is far far too cute for words.

Try explaining that onesie to the other parents in play group :-)
Excellent coverage of K Bob too. I love to watch him race.
I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?

Kabush was in a league of his own
He looked like he was out for a morning training ride!! And he really let up on the last lap it looked like – saving some for the cash prizes the following day (which he won).

I understand he's burnt by the end of the MB season, but
I wish he’d put in a full season of cross and then go to Worlds. He’s got the goods for sure.

in all fairness...
the rider who had challenged Kabush last year for a lot of the race, Mike Garrigan, apparently had some sort of mechanical and had to change bikes early on, wasn’t able to catch up again.

And I thought that it was starting to get cold in England
Did you turn Chloe round for that first pic, or do they make those carriers in front facing versions now?
by Monty. on Oct 15, 2009 2:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
this carrier can go either way
baby is supposed to be rear-facing until he/she has good head control, Chloe is almost at the point where we could regularly put her forward-facing in it – but with the extra support of the snowsuit it worked best front-facing (that and rear-facing I’m not sure there would have been room for her to breathe with the snowsuit on!) We actually use a different carrier more frequently (a Baby Bjorn) but the snowsuit didn’t fit into that one at all.

Great photos, guidemd! You were dedicated to brave the cold to cheer for the riders.
I’m sure they appreciated the support. And what a beautiful child. :-) Love the onesie.

Scary thing is...
… this will be shorts weather for us in a couple months!!! As guidemd said, we had no autumn this year – from +34C to -10C and snow in three weeks!! No time to adjust!!

what are you saying?
… that you wouldn’t be going out to a cross race in such weather? ;-)
