I was very very very very very wrong
Gilbert is on the form of his life.

Awesome :)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Gilbert really though should not have sat down just before finish,
( could ) have been a silly whoopsy
He's young no?
Great future ahead of him, 5th is a great accomplishment.

who is he riding for
next yr?

Was very promising as a junior
but partied way too hard for 5 years or so. Won everything at the elite amateur level w/o training too much. Finally got serious again this year on the new team.
He's 26
Not too late to blossom. Tyler Farrar is 25, but apparently wasted some his potential but at least had the sense to straighten himself out instead of giving in to party scene.
Cyclovia: Bogota www.streetfilms.org/archives/ciclovia/
Farrar has been improving season by season
A lot of the improved results this year comes not so much from better riding but rather more teamsupport, protcted rider status etc.
That is a gorgeous top ten!

Right, off to make some tea.
Anyone up for a live cross thread for Pilzen tomorrow? ;-)

Props to Cadel, as world champ who lives in the region and really wants to win Lombardia
he still sacrificed himself for his teammate today, suddenly Silence is good at this teammate thingy.
Dammit Elk! I don't care if it's your mating season, you are disturbing my peaceful sleep! Just STFU!
I think Cadel has finally found his man
and yes, props to him and Gilbert. Great display of team racing ;)

Exciting to see, isn't it?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
yes, and such a relief!
and as Phil H. said, great to see Cadel in the support role – good use of the two riders strengths in those last kms.
Yep. Did you catch Cadel and Gilbert after the race...
…genuine gratitude from Gilbert, and genuine happiness from Cadel. That looked very very healthy as a teammate relationship.
they have apparently
had a good relationship from the start – it’s just nice to see them really making it happen on the road.
That's a photo I hope we see ;)
Great complementary strengths and obviously rapport. Fantastic ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
There was some sniping at each other after one of the spring races.
Gilbert frustrated by lack of communication from Evans, if I’m remembering correctly. So it’s especially nice to see them working nicely together now.
Best racewinning attack of the year in a big race?
Straight up rode all the big competition off their wheels
lombardia
rarely dissappoints in thar respect

Gilbert once said there were only two Monuments he couldn't win
Paris – Roubaix and Giro di Lombardia.

And now Gilbert has to head to France for tomorrow's Chrono des Nations
he really likes to race
