While the UCI spends the next two years debating whether Team RadioShack can be ProTour or not, controversial Brüno-sounding German Andreas Klöden is confirmed for the Shack; this transfer has also been posted as "The truth!" on CyclingNews.com, Laola.at, and Radsport-News.com.

I hope he enjoys his 8th place at the Tour

and podium finish at TdS, cause that will be it.

Honestly I thought he showed his age this year, especially on any climb.

And so things like 8th at the Tour and a podium at Suisse or T-A would be quite good for him in 2010 regardless of what team he’s on.

by ursula on Oct 2, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

he was the 4th best for most of the day on the toughest stage at the Tour, looked better than Armstrong for a lot of the climbing at le Tour, Ventoux was too steep. He may have been a bit lacking at some earlier races but I thought he looked as good as usual for the Tour. Actually he had a very good year this year, not many wins but very solid in almost every race he entered.

Still, he's probably doing what he should be doing right now.

Good pay, a few chances for himself, and superdomestique roles.

Well he was doing that even when he should have been looking to lead

thus I have been disappointed with his ambition at times throughout his career.

Well, all the ambition in the world

will get you what kind of results on a bike?

You can't be telling me that being ambitious doesn't matter

look at all the top athletes in the world, they have that ambition, they thrive to achieve their goals. Maybe Kloden wouldn’t have had better results had he looked to lead a team, but it couldn’t have hurt to try.

Some guys are driven

more than others. His fans should’ve stopped banging their heads against the wall about him ages ago. I like the guy, and would guess that he appreciates life outside cycling.

Kloden at the Tour

The Tour, like the Giro, was dumbed down. His best climb of the Tour, and his best effort for the whole year, was up Verbier, which wasn’t the toughest of climbs. Still, that was his best effort of the year. Every other major climb he was-sooner or later-dropped.

His time trialing remained first rate.

by ursula on Oct 2, 2009 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kloden's ambition as it turns out can be defined by his watching Landis give Pereiro the Yellow jersey in the 2006 Tour.

Instead of forcing Landis to defend his yellow jersey and stay in second he just watched. He must have been thinking that if he deserved to win the race then somebody would come along and give it to him.

The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.

+1000

The 2006 Tour is where I began to think of Klodi as another Haimar Zubeldia, E-E’s then-perpetual Tour hope. Kinda funny that they ended up on the same team.

Speaking of 2006, Klodi gave away the Tour about three times I think: first, he let Pereiro get 30 minutes; second, he failed to chase on stage 17; third, he failed to do any damage to Pereiro on stage 17. I thought to myself then that if you can’t outclimb Oscar Pereiro, you really aren’t a Tour contender. (I still think that, by the way.)

I'm not saying that at all.

Just that it takes a great deal more. I think he has the ambition, just lacks the little extra needed to get ’er done.

Ok, fair enough

I think he could have won the Tour with a bit more but maybe 2nd was all he had(not that that’s shabby at all)

I still can't figure out why you guys torture yourselves over there.

Don’t you have any more self-control than that?

First time I was even on the website

I went over looking for some good “AC is a fucking moron…Lance is God!” posts but there was only insulting from both Lance fans and non-fans, not even funny dumb comments.

Well that's because they are all crazed lunatics on both sides of the aisle.

“First time”, yea right. It’s the “I only tried it once” defense.

the shack website on my computer doesn’t have forums — or anything but a place to sign up for emails. where are these forums of which you speak?

Next two years debating?

Don’t think so. With BBox and Cofidis getting the boot, I think it’s obvious how the ProTour license story is going to turn out.

Yes sure, but its a UCI obligation

to unnecessarily debate something for an extended amount of time.

Snark!

But.. Why exactly wants ¡Shack! a PT license?

by Frinking on Oct 2, 2009 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There are quite a few teams in the PT worse off in P-R than Shack

plus P-R is not a PT race anyway.
The Shack has not yet received a PT license but surely will.
(I think you were trying to say they won’t be able to put a squad together for P-R but I can’t tell without the Frinking-English dictionary in hand)

Aren't we all tempted to use the Frinking in every sentense we use ?

The other day I was riding up a hill close to my house and I couldn’t help but subconsciously exclaim that I didn’t know how I was going to get to the top of this Frinking hill. At this point I don’t think any of us can help it.

I waited a half an hour to give my two toddlers breakfast until I had my Eneco tour coverage sorted, then made sure I got them fed before the sprint. --- Bought With Blood. ..... My, Klödi causes such divisiveness!

Meanwhile, this amuses since he rides around on bike in suit: 2007 T-Mobile Klödi Profile.
