Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

No, I won't dredge up that photo, but according to Tuttobiciweb, Davide Viganò has finally confirmed that he's signed a contract with Team Sky for next year. Whether it's just for next season or stretches beyond that is unclear. Viganò's the second Italian to sign for Sky (whose sponsors have major media interests in Italy) following Morris Possoni from Columbia. On the other hand, Viganò's current Fuji-Servetto team mate and seemingly inseparable best buddy Eros Capecchi, who had also been strongly rumoured for Sky, now appears to be sticking with the newly re-packaged Footon-Servetto squad.

Update: Serge Pauwels (from Cervélo), Michael Barry (Columbia) and Chris Sutton (Garmin & nephew of British Cycling/Team Sky coach Shane Sutton) are also now confirmed, according to Lionel Birnie on Twitter (thanks Jens). All heavily trailed so no surprises anywhere, except perhaps the length of time it's taken to make them official. That brings Sky up to twenty confirmed riders on the roster.

In other (non-)Team Sky news

Tuttobiciweb also have a full list of next year’s Katusha roster of 29 riders, confirming that as he said at the Tour of Britain, Ben Swift will be seeing out the second year of his Katusha contract rather than moving to Sky.

Aah.. He's Italien..

But that took long to be confirmed.. In my mind the deal was signed over a month ago

that's more or less what the article is saying:

“Finally, the much-anticipated signature on the contract”…

Tsk tsk

I don’t dare go in the hotitude threads, but even I know from what leaks out that he is Italian, used to ride for Fuji, and is one of Helsy’s favourites. Hotitude: filling in the bits that VDS leaves out.

Can I ask you..

Are you the friend of Majope. I can not separate you two most of the time.

And that are the confusing parts!
1. Helsy is,almost, only keen on Spanish guys
2. Fuji is Spansih all the way. Well expect for Vigano
3. Vigano sounds Spanish for me..

Friend of Majope?

Well I never had an Action Man when I was little. Or a Barbie. Just a teddybear made from felt, sewn together by my great-aunt , stuffed with straw, and with all his clothes sewn on so you couldn’t change his costume.

by Monty. on Oct 28, 2009 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's never too late.

I could send you a couple of GI Joes or Max Steels, if you like. Or a couple of really buff presidents. And some Barbies to keep them in their place.

by majope on Oct 28, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't be allowed to keep them

(the house contains an Almodovar fan). I wonder where you’d (or one’d) end up waving a Barbie-Barbie at taxi drivers.

Sky is looking a lot like Columbia

they will win lots of races but when it comes to GC they have nobody. OK, they will win far less than Columbia because they don’t have those two dominating sprinters. Of course they want to add a GC threat in either Wiggins or Bert.

Does anybody know how many guys they are getting for this year?

they only have 22 so far so I thought they had to have 3 more for the Pro Tour minimum of 25.

I'd be really surprised if they didn't take Fleeman.

He’s been injured this year so hasn’t really had a chance to prove himself at Cervelo…he surely deserves a go.

Hmmm.

But Fleeman’s another guy who’s always been outside the mainstream British Cycling set up. They do seem to have a bit of an aversion to people who aren’t one of the gang, don’t they? Do hope Fleeman gets a half-decent ride somewhere next season though.

That's true...hmm. It would be very sad to see him out in the cold next year, very sad indeed...

Capecchi really should follow his buddy...why on earth would you stay with the footons if you have a good offer elsewhere?

Really Eros, get out! Helsy and I are both annoyed.

Didn't someone say somewhere

that Michele Merlo of Barloworld had an offer from Sky but chose Footon (still can’t type that with a straight face) instead? I wondered if in his case it was a linguistic thing, because I don’t think Merlo has any English whatsoever… As for Capecchi, I don’t know whether there was ever really an offer from Sky but he was rumoured even before Viganò.

by civetta on Oct 29, 2009 8:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, you're right about Merlo. Silly boy.

And yes, Capecchi’s been rumoured for months. I don’t know either whether there was actually an offer but if there was he’s a fool.

Probably because he has a better chance to develop at Footon(snicker)

there he can race his races and have freedom at them, while at Sky he would probably be forced to do work for others the entire year.

But he hasn't developed at Footon at all.

He won the Euskal Bizikleta a couple years ago and has done nothing since. For someone with such promise that’s not great.

Sorry...meant to call them Fuji Servetto, Saunier Duval etc

What actually is Footon anyway?!

Everytime I hear his name

Ah, bravo Vigano!
Bravo, bravissimo!
A most fortunate man indeed!
Ready to do everything
Night and day,
Always on the move.
A cushier fate for a cyclist,
A more noble life, is not to be had.

how long...

…is the delay going to be before Sky confirm their lineup?

I read somewhere that they need to firm it up in the next week or so as part of some agreement teams sign up to.

What goes here?
