Young American Duo Racing in the Grenoble 6 Day
Guy East (TREK-Livestrong U23) and Austin Carroll (BMC) are competing as a team in the Grenoble 6 Day Race. They won the 6 Days of Dortmund U23 last winter. They are both 22 (I believe) and new to 6 day racing. It looks like they are competing in the regular race with the big boys, not the U23. Both are regular Twitter users and Austin Carroll blogs and vlogs about his experiences as a young up and coming cyclist. He enjoys video editing and film making. He's an affable guy and fun to follow and clearly excited about this race. He has already posted a video of their arrival in France yesterday. Check his blog link.
6DayRacing.ca did a story on them earlier this year.
I am hoping we will find some live video from Grenoble but I'm not holding my breath. The Grenoble 6 day race starts today tomorrow October 29th. Check them out.

Hopefully somebody could have a live video of a 6-day...the Amsterdam 6 was last week and it had a lot of big names
from track and road and I was dying to see it.

That has to be better than derny drivers playing the saxophone...
And who was that middle aged crooner who had us all in stitches?!

No, wasn't him. I'd know the name if I saw it.

(I had to search the 6-day threads to be sure—apologies for not remembering the name of the Netherlands’ greatest treasure on my own.)

I like the song...
mooi mooi mooi man!! good memories…
"If me and King Kong went into an alley, only one of us would come out. And it wouldn't be the monkey."

Can someone...
explain the Derney race to me? I understand the basics…but how does one win?

That's basically cycling behind a motorbike.
Who is going the first over the line wins but there are some serious tactics involved!

I understand that...
but what kind of communication is involved between the derny driver and rider? Also, does having a great derny pilot give you a better shot at winning?

I think there isn't..
The derny rider has to know what the rider can do. It doesn’t seems extremely fast but if they have limited speed or something.. Shoot me..
There is only one rule if you are a deny rider.. Be as fat as possible to make a wind quiet/silence area

I'm no expert on the skills of derny drivers but I understand that it's a case of the fatter the better!

After you have seen 2 derny races in a row
you will probably be able to predict the winner of the third race … Some post-Tour crit similarities there, for sure.
by tedvdw on Oct 29, 2009 8:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The derny drivers wear a sort of ear trumpet
just like all the great-aunts used to in hollywood films of the thirties, but pointing backwards. And the real star rider is Joop Zijlaard, who was apparently once a competitive rider himself (and anyone who has seen Ghislain Lambert will be smiling at the thought of one particular scene), and whose family also race.

Hang on a minute...
It says that Rotterdam is in early December… but here it says early January. This is not good enough! Rotterdam involves horribly early mornings, for me – and I even plan to swap to the late shift at work, to ease the pain (and squeeze in another hour of viewing before work!).
I’ll stick with the organisers’ word on the matter, I reckon (especially since CN are saying that it goes for 7 days…)

CN has this race on their results calendar but yesterday's results are not posted.
Austin Carroll tweeted that Guy East was sick yesterday for the first day of racing with with an intestinal issue. Bummer.
