Cyclist-wounding doctor wins acting award?
This the the ER doc who slammed on his brakes after cutting in front of cyclists on a winding downhill (upper Mandeville Canyon Rd.) He now emotes and claims he wanted to get a picture so he could educate the cycling community. Luckily, there's also a 911 transcript. I suppost it'll come down to how deep bike hatred runs in the jury, I guess.

I've been following this case over at VeloNews.
You sum it up pretty well…he’s sandbagging. If he ends up winning, it’ll be yet another blow against moral decency.

What are the laws out there concerning single-file riding?
We always hear that here from the uninformed motorists yelling out their windows “Single-file” while buzzing by the outside line at 50+ mph just inches away. We’re almost always on back-ass country roads with next to no traffic so going around us is very, very rarely an issue. But even here in one of the most unfriendly toward cyclists parts of the world, we have decent laws that protect our rights and we can ride two abreast except in heavy traffic conditions.
This guy has a record of running around yelling at cyclists to ride single-file, if that’s not the law there, why hasn’t this been brought up? Or even if it is the law, why hasn’t it been brought up? Someone is clearly mistaken and this could be a damning issue if the Dr. is ignorant of the laws protecting cyclists.
No horn, watch for finger.
wow good points, I thought it was always the law to ride single file

In the UK, two abreast is legal.
see here,rule 66.
Personally, if I hear a car coming behind when I’m riding with someone, I’ll always merge into single file, because frankly I’ve got fed up with being honked by people who are ignorant of what is legal.
Not sure what the situation is in the US though. But the ‘stopping to take a picture’ explanation from this guy is such transparent bullshit they should add some extra time to his sentence. IIRC he’s already smashed into cyclists in exactly the same way, so it’s about time he faced justice.
That would really suck for the guy who started a group ride on the front.
I think the two abreast law for cyclists was in part passed with the intent to allow parents to ride on the outside of their children and to be seen better by oncoming traffic.

well yeah, for passing. I thought you could only ride that way when passing.

The vast majority of motorists in SC have no idea (or concern) about SC bike law.
But we have some great cycling advocates who have fought well and won many battles to protect cyclist’s rights and garnered new and improved ones. If you ride a bike you should definitely know the laws in your area or where you ride/train. (And support, or at least thank, those fighting for you.)

got to find him guilty first
It sounds pretty open and shut (especially when he admitted he slammed on the brakes in the 911 call) but the legal process doesn’t always lead to the right outcome.
