We are pleased that we will have the opportunities to send out our most successful riders, now including Cadel Evans, to tackle these challenges," Jim Ochowicz added. Winning a Grand Tour
Cadel Evans took second place in both the 2007 and 2008 Tours de France. Now Cadel Evans wants to win a Grand Tour. "Cadel Evans heard about how our team was expanding by signing big-name riders like George Hincapie, Alessandro Ballan, Marcus Burghardt, Karsten Kroon and other strong racers, and this news immediately fired him up with the idea of riding for such a flexible, engaged and passionate team," explained BMC Bicycles owner and BMC Racing Team co-owner Andy Rihs. The thirty-two year old Australian cyclist who lives in Switzerland is looking forward to building a newly fortified program with the BMC Racing Team. Cadel Evans believes the BMC Racing Team will help him accomplish his goal of winning a Grand Tour.
A great opportunity
The signing of Cadel Evans is not only an enormous chance for the BMC Racing Team but is also a great move for the current World Champion. "A great opportunity has come for me to join a growing team of like minded individuals at BMC. I look forward to working with the BMC group toward the same goals including the Tour de France. I see the BMC Racing Team as a growing but very well structured and organized Team", an enthusiastic Evans said about his new employer. "Obviously, I would like to do better than my two second places at the Tour de France". For Director Sportif John Lelangue, it is clear that the team is now established in a way that they will be able to be competitive in every major race of the season. "We have a plan to go to the biggest races, including the Grand Tours. That includes the Tour de France," he said. "This will be possible since our sporting level has greatly increased in standard."
Huge motivation
For BMC, as a manufacturer of high-end bicycles, this surprise signing is a huge step forward. "We want to increase BMC awareness, popularity and sales worldwide. By signing Cadel Evans, we have laid the groundwork to promote the brand not only in Australia but around the world. We have now put our cards on the table and hope to be on the start line in the 2010 Tour de France," according to Andy Rihs. "The current World Champion, Cadel Evans, as a BMC Racing Team member, will be giving his input into the advancements of our high-end product range which is an enormous opportunity for the company since for the best riders, only the best equipment is good enough," stated Mike Hürlimann, BMC CEO. "Having a rider like Cadel under contract will be a huge motivation for us. We will enthusiastically aspire to stay true to our traditionally cutting edge innovations and work daily to make the BMC brand as good as it can be. "
Wow!
Crazy 24 hours in cycling. Here’s a good history of everything http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/2122/Evans-confirms-move-to-BMC.aspx
Wooow. What a great site!
I’ve been a cyclingfan for over 3 years and I never been there! I’m so glad you point out the site to me. It’s a true enrichment for my life! Thankss.

Well played, Frinkster!
(Hey Seahorse – check this! ;-) …)
Nobody outfrinks the Frinster ;)

Can YOU explain ‘laviating’? If not, you’ve been outfrinked ;)

Me too
I bet Cadel goes for the Giro-Vuelta double next year. Oh please do Cadel

But rihs says later on that
“We have now put our cards on the table and hope to be on the start line in the 2010 Tour de France.” Seems like Cadel and BMC want to try for the TdF if they can wrangle an invite, but management is cautiously optimistic. Perhaps they and Cadel feel the WC jersey and their improved GT stature guarantees an invite? Or maybe they have assurances from ASO on their inclusion or a 22 team field?
But Cadel has said he is still focused on winning the Tour de France in recent appearances promoting his book and has been quoted as saying as much in numerous articles.
I can't believe how fast you got this up
Got back from ride, checked, no news on Cadel. Quick shower, check, and there’s already a PdC post with comments. Well done Sui Juris

The whole release?
The start completely threw me off. Just didn’t understand a word of it after that.
Forget Treasury, I think
it’s time BMC started bailing everyone out. They’ve apparently got the $$$.
silly money
They’re throwing silly money around this season. Hope it works out for them.
I think we can safely say they’re in at the Giro, Tour, and major classics with Evans, Ballan, and Hincapie.
Do you know what the owner is worth? He's a billionaire who likes cycling.
No horn, watch for finger.
Probably both
though of course Rhis is loaded. I wouldn’t be suprised if Hinky and bro were also among the investors.
I doubt Och is loaded
He was head of USA Cycling, which can’t be a lucrative job, but beyond that I know nothing of his business background. So who knows? He’s a heavy hitter in the world of cycling in the US for sure, so maybe he is just be the “advisor” type of owner?
Jim Ochowitz
Professional ycling in the U.S.A cannot be explained without Och, he goes way back even before Lemond, now that’s far.
"Many poeple can talk but have not won any endurance events, I can talk because I won."
Well,
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?as_q=och&as_ugroup=rec.bicycles.racing&safe=off
(Note: the “safe=off” part is telling)
With reference to Fabio's death
The writer of this article is simply misinformed. To add to that it was only until 2003 that the wearing of helmets was made compulsory.
"Many poeple can talk but have not won any endurance events, I can talk because I won."
Where was Och in '72
Representing on the track for his country and he’s still into the sport – now that’s something, wouldn’t you agree?
"Many poeple can talk but have not won any endurance events, I can talk because I won."
So next year looks like a Giro go for Cadel
I’m sot sure BMC will get a Tour invite in 2010, maybe 2011. Honestly I’d like to see Cadel go for the Giro-Vuelta double instead of the Tour. But is BMC really a better support squad than Silence was?
Look, it's a bird...no, it's a plane....oh never mind it's just fucking balloon boy
Cadel thinks he's going to the Tour
look forward to working with a new team, in a new environment, towards my same goals; honouring the Rainbow jersey at the highest level of the sport, and ultimately at the highest step of the Tour de France podium.
Don't we all
according to that quote he also thinks he can beat Bert and Andy in a very climby Tour, which isn’t happening.
Look, it's a bird...no, it's a plane....oh never mind it's just fucking balloon boy
They don't..
Do you think they get an invite only for Evans with that competition for wildcards? Think not. I also go for the Giro shot
What do you fear most?
1. coup d’etat
2. putsch
as long as
cadel doesn’t learn how to sprint they should be fine…
They'll be in the Tour, are you kidding.
GH has been in how many in a row? With the guys they are lining up if anyone gets an invite these guys are at the top of the list.
No horn, watch for finger.
cadel gets them the invite.

Didn't Lelangue also work for the ASO
for years before going to Phonak? I don’t think that would guarantee an invite, but he should have good communication with the organization and a realistic view of their shot at an invitation.
I'm guessing just a few
Maybe Charlie Wegelius from Silence. He’s definitely a climby-type and doesn’t seem to be 100% happy with the leadership there. Something about being told he was doing all 3 GTs when he didn’t want to and knew he was tired.

I'm going to be such a BMC junkie next year, you guys are going to hate me.
Don’t say it, I heard you, just don’t say it: “We already do”
No horn, watch for finger.
But do you have a BMC sunggie?
Look, it's a bird...no, it's a plane....oh never mind it's just fucking balloon boy
no, musette is next
I have a signed Columbia one, but I told him I’d like the BMC one when he gets some.
No horn, watch for finger.
This was a nice anagram.
You loved BMC didn’t you? Everything I love about Evans
What do you fear most?
1. coup d’etat
2. putsch
Anagrams are usually all caps,
but nice try to move away from the name association.
No horn, watch for finger.
Work on what?
Capitalizing your acronyms so they can’t be mistaken for gratuitous insults.
No horn, watch for finger.
Thankfully
I have no idea what either of you is talking about.

yea thanks ted
figured that out
It was the fact that it was an anagram that made it an issue
No horn, watch for finger.
At least now I can be a junkie because of their riders
instead of just their team doctor (what can I say, I was a Heiden fan girl dating back to the Olympics)
So Eric's their team doctor
I always wonder, when I read Amber Neben’s reports of her treatments, whether he still has the gold body suit in a cupboard somewhere. Maybe he wears it under his suit, ready to rip it off, like Superman.
Well Hinpacie is the new supplier so who knows what they are going to do with the design.
Assos had an amazing design for the jersey but it will change. Hincapie’s brother said that the jersey is going to have more red next year so one of the best uniforms in the business is going to change.
george working for cadel...
odd turn of events. I’ll certainly cheer for george wherever goes and whatever race he’s in, but cadel….? hmmm.
George bunny-hopped my bike somehow. He's like a cat. -- cvv
The only thing that ever got me about Cadel was his voice( and his dog)
Fairly childish things, so I’m willing to move on and be a fan.
No horn, watch for finger.
Rooting for someone just because they join your team is kind of silly
and something I do all the time…
Look, it's a bird...no, it's a plane....oh never mind it's just fucking balloon boy
George may become our favourite thing about Cadel,
but a steady hand a big heart, he’ll be a new man I hope ;)

So much for my guesses
Although at least I was right about Cadel having an offer in hand before he backed out on Omega Pharma Snorezalotto.

Aye

BFD
I could freakin’ care LESS about rider transfers.
But as my son and I were riding along a quiet country road, a kid (i.e. a baby goat) attempted to wriggle its way through the wire fencing. It got stuck. But we distinctly heard it bleat the plaintive question:
“Hey biking dudes!!! What about the beccos?”
There is been some snarkism in Evans statement to leave no?
Evans said that his decision to Silence-Lotto to leave was inspired by the atmosphere in the group as by the quality of the riders.
"If you are looking for a team as GT rider , you need a team that from day 1 is 100% behind you. But you also need riders who are able to physically and capable do the necessary work."

Snarkiness from *Lotto too
Van Den Broeck was mildly critical of Evans. "It is said that I learnt a lot from Cadel. They shouldn’t exaggerate. I rode with him once, on the stage to the Sierra Nevada. That’s it. I also know now to best prepare myself for a Grand Tour."
From CN
Hurray snarkiness
We have to have something to get us through the off-season weekdays, and what better than playground antics?

If you need a secret kept...
Tell Cadel everything, far more effective than a doctor, a priest and even the FBI or CIA
Not even his own team knew or even saw it coming – kudos to Cadel.
