Dreams Teams - If cycling were converted to a league system

You can now show support for your European football team both at the soccer stadium and at the track - Superleague Racing.

Is anyone intrested in creating Dream Teams - teams in which you can select any 27 riders, justifying each.

Unlike the Rugby Dream XV, all the riders must be currently active - this includes those returning from suspension - the team's goal would be to ride at least two Grand Tours, and all classics - so care is needed in not choosing two many riders with the goal of winning the same event.

These teams can also include Track teams, Elite Women, U23 Men and Elite Men.

Anyone interested?

Team sized

a minimum of 9 riders and a maximum of 27 – anything in between is acceptable

The "Chain Gang Team"

No offense intended, but this list includes active riders who’ve served a suspension of some kind and are now back to racing:

1. Vino,
2. Heras,
3. Astarloa,
?. Millar,
4. Beltran,
5. Casper,
6. Colom,
7. Garzelli,
Thevenet,
8. Sella,
Rasmussen,
9. Kashechkin,

Practicality

This team has all you want:
open road locos – Millar, Thevenet, Casper;
mountain goats – Astarloa, Garzelli, Rasmussen, Sella
overall contenders – Vino and Heras – more than five stage wins (total) in all Grands tours

Small Tours – Colom, very quick over short climbs maybe useful in the Italian classics

Astarloa is somebodyelse as AstarloZa.

Astarloa won the WC out of the blue in.. eeeh somewehere 10 years ago

What do you fear most?
1. coup d’etat
2. putsch

I do mean Igor Astarloa, not AstarloZa

He was suspended and then eventually fired by his team and he’s currently active on the continent.

Well. He's certainly not a mountain goat..

What do you fear most?
1. coup d’etat
2. putsch

Yes and no,

No wins but did finish on the podium on hard stages and also helped out his team leader whilst he was at Saeco.

As a classics rider he does have the potential in those races, would you not agree?

Biased Website

The ranking on this site is not accurate – for a start riders who’ve won big time a placed lower down the order than babes – I’ll say this is a no go site for the true fan.

Many poeple can talk but have not won any endurance events, I can talk because I won.

Speed Cruz

A team bred soley for the Classics. At least four of the guys below have at least worn two of the Leader’s jerseys in the GTs. Among them they have 10 (lesser) Tour wins e.g. Deutschland Tour, classics like Tirreno….

1. Fabu,
1. Wiggins,
2. Jens,
3. Davez,
Millar,
Pinotti,
O’G,
Larsson,
Brajkovic,
Rogers,
Tony Martin
Tuft,
Hesjedal,

by joeyc on Nov 2, 2009 12:54 PM EST reply actions

Justification

Classics: Fabu, O’G
Mountain levelers: Fabu, Jens, Martin
flat locos: Millar, Hesjedal, Brajkovic, DaveZ
Extras: Pinotti, Larsson, Rogers, Tuft – Deadly in the TTT

Many poeple can talk but have not won any endurance events, I can talk because I won.

Track Teams: Team Sprint

To be honest, the British Team seams to be the best however, for my money, this would be my pick including extras,

Sir Chris Hoy,
Kenny,
Sireau,

Bos,
Ellis,
Bauge

Justification

If a knightwood and consecutive champions isn’t enough, then I don’t know what is.

Just think, without any of the above in the winning team you would have to go back to 2004 for a team that won a championship – is that right?

Many poeple can talk but have not won any endurance events, I can talk because I won.

I'll take

the last 27 winners of de ronde. We won’t be out-hammered.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
