Still no confirmation anywhere, at least that I can find.

If it’s true, I wonder what Garmin’s getting to make up for it? Just a shitload of money?

It was just a long race--Edvald Boasson Hagen, on the Giro

So now as the saga of

AC is over the media is now stirring it up for Wiggins? The media is bored like us. I can’t imagine it’s true.

"stirring it up fpr Wiggins"?

Wiggins could put a stop to this right now if he wanted.

From email to Cyclingweekly.com from JV re:L'Equipe story

“Brad has a contract for 2010. That is my statement. If they have such a great source, they should reveal him/her.” Vaughters told Cycling Weekly.

At what point does Vaughters begin to wish it was true.

i'm sick of these transfer stories

can we have a bike race already

You missed it

Jens failed to come through with the GT-stage re-enactments (and raised interesting questions about the Whereabouts of the can of chickpeas), so Ted provided some links to live ’cross.

(I am not saying that ‘cross is necessarily acceptable as a ’bike race’, but others seem to think so…)

Plus mud and hurdles and stairs.

What’s not to like?!

Nothing on Gazzetta or Sporza

So I’m calling this bluff. There’s only so much reporting you can do on “so-and-so has big goals for 2010”, so this is what happens…

Gav is speculating on the Twit that

it might be Sky feeding l’Equipe, trying to make it happen any which way.

by tedvdw on Nov 21, 2009 8:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ja

It’s not like L’Eqiupe to run a story like this on nothing – Gazzetta does on occasion, but l’Equipe doesn’t usually. So I have a feeling someone is feeding this one for some reason – either to put the pressure on Vaughters to take the buy-out or to attract an additional sponsor to Team Sky. Not quite sure, but I read this one as something more than idle, bored press chatter.

by gavia on Nov 21, 2009 11:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Are Sky the ones circulating the rumor

that the UCI is planning to ban sideburns longer than 3 cm in 2010 too?

Because that would have JV quaking in his (british suede) boots.

by Jens on Nov 22, 2009 10:28 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

How does this pressure Vaughters?

I don’t see it. They can rumour til the cows come home and it Garmin still has the contract, and don’t see Wiggins doing anything but his normal tweets. They may make a deal, but I don’t see how this is pressure or would change things

by Markk on Nov 22, 2009 11:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Trying to annoy the crap out of JV?

Maybe they’re just hoping he’ll get tired of having Wiggo and will give him up for free.

by dansel on Nov 22, 2009 11:57 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm still interested in what Wiggins might want

If he bailed on the last year of his contract with Garmin, I’d be a little less disposed to like him.(Big loss I know). During the TDF they supported him admirably and so I think that his contract should be honoured. That said, I know that at this stage it’s everyone else twittering and talking about Sky rather than Wiggins himself.

Really?

What of his Wigan v. Man Utd comments? What of all the deliberately ambiguous/mischievous stuff he’s been coming out with all summer?

So what of it?

That was months ago, but really I don't care very much

except for the fact that I do believe in honouring a contract if people have honoured you. Albertina’s comment about this being a soap opera is well made.

They seem to be working on the football principle

that if you talk about something often enough, voila, it happens. Whereas when, say, Fedrigo was making wanting to leave noises his team just told him to shut up & get on with it, end of story, what tends to happen in football is that if there’s enough talk a player is said to be “unsettled” & a “disruptive influence” & the manager/chairman decide they’re best shot of him, whether they truly want to sell or not. So players (or their agents or teams who want them) plant press stories of very much of this ilk. Joleon Lescott’s laughable transfer from Everton to Man City would be a classic example. So I think it pressures Vaughters in the sense of does he really want to have someone on his team who has made it perfectly plain (albeit indirectly) that he does not want to be there? Whether it works or not is another matter.

Yep

This is the kind of thing I was thinking about, yes.

Can they just sort out this soap opera already?

I’m sick to death of it!

Eastenders, Emmerdale etc

It’s always the same with brits. They have to turn these things into neverending series that just get worse every year.

Emmerdale at least had impressive facial hair once.

When they start running topless pics of Twiggo in the lads mags, that’s when we have real problems.

by Jens on Nov 23, 2009 5:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

My Mother is obsessed with Eastenders. Don't understand why.

The only soap I ever watched was Neighbours, after lunch at university. Mind numbing entertainment before the start of the working afternoon!

I became a connoisseur at uni too :-)

Bad soaps and quality “All creatures great and small” saved me from many a productive hour.

Eastenders looks good next to Neighbours

But Neighbours is good precisely because it's bad :)

I haven’t seen it in ages though…totally out of touch!

but I’m glad someone has fun dissecting it ;)

Two more of my cents.

I think this is going to happen soon. Sky is desperate for Wiggins so the money is going to be there. Garmin will still have a decent Tour team without Wiggins and when 2010 is over Brad would be gone after another near podium finish and Garmin won’t have that bag of cash to invest in their future. The reason for the wait was obviously to make sure Contador was not an option. Now this set of circumstances and the finances that go with them probably just need final approval from sponsors and lawyers. The only thing that is missing is Sminer’s undercover reporting from the BBQ like he did with Hincapie last summer.
There I just had to say that just in case it really does happen and then I can say, ‘Told you so’.

Garmin would still be strong without Wiggins

I think Vande Velde, when not hurt, can climb at least as good as Wiggins, probably a little better. However, Wiggins balances that out in the TT so they’re both close to the same strength I think. Either way, I look forward to Vande Velde hitting it big time in 2010.

Not enough TT kilometers next year I forgot to mention.

Advantage Vande Velde! Cash in JV! Cash in!

True, true, true

And I’m partial to the Chicago guy. He’s a man’s man too, if you read about how much snow he will ride in.

Can't seriously see the latter happening....

Of course not.

But how desperate must we be to keep checking out fanshots that are 4 days old. Desperate times require desperate snark etc. . . .
