Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

Alessandro Pettachi spills the beans on the 2010 parcours. Only 1,8 km from the bottom of the Poggio to the finish line a disadvantage to the sprintteams trying to pull it together for a sprint.

Cool

Would like to see Cancellara and Gilbert going at it hammer and tongs.

But perhaps not Cav oddly enough

Methinks the RCS are sort of scared of their spring-jewel turning into a predictable (and predictably non-italian) affair.

Don't forget Thor is an excellent descender.

Although he may be targeting the cobbles, he probably smiled when he heard this news.

True but he is not the fastest uphill and a lot of the guys who can climb like Gilbert

will just be ripping it uphill so guys who want to win will have to be able to stick around

There have been some small changes to the final

Last few years has seen the inclusion of ‘Le Manie,’ a hill 100 km from the finish, because of land slides. Even the finish line has been moved to a slightly different location last year, I believe. Wasn’t that related to road works? Can’t remember, really. The classic elements remain: Passo Turchino somewhere halfway, inconsequential; some capi & the Cipressa on the coast, attacks start here; the Poggio, often the decider or at least making the selection; 6-10 km raging downhill and some flat bits into Sanremo.

Yep roadworks on the Via Roma

(or on the run-in?)
I believe the Cipressa was added at one point (60-70:ies?) just like the Le Manie to counterbalance the increasing strength of the peloton.

i beleive that

the Via Roma is otu for good. Tram track being installed last year? am i imagining this?

THat was the Avenue de Grammont in Paris Tours...

They just had construction on the Via Roma and they can go back to it…which I wish they would because that had some many memorable finishes including some that were not sprints.
