Threads of the Year 2009
I know, I know. It's the thousands list which is going to be made but! (...) this one is definitely a good one for the long, cold, freezy and dark winter coming(and let's be honest.. It only put away the Roma-Lazio thread so note mucho dealos.) . It's also a tad early but now there are still people around. It's a long and dark winter but keep the spirit high. Just over a month and than the TDU starts!!! Hooray.... I think. Well if that is what it take to let me dislike football again I'm fine with it. (Can you believe a Dutch team was knocked out in the 90+6 minute! By a header! From the opponent's keeper! Neither did I.. I almost cried... That was a lie.. To make it more dramatic.. And so more perfect.. So you would liked it...) But on the thread thing.
Nominate away. Nominate funny, informative, crazy, out-of-the-box, worthy, Off-topic, On-topic, Lance, non-lance.. Whatever you want. If there is animo for it we do a poll.. Ooh.. The thread has to be in 2009! For the nominations of 2008 click here for questions click here and for some moral support click here. Of course I will start with my personal favorite!
Gavia's report of the Solvang Time Trial! Because c'mon.. Anyone who can come up with this
is reaching the perfect/utterly Briljant!.. Serious Gav!
Well.. I spoke eeh write way to long. Off to a start.

Great thread indeed
Now I know where the Hairy Chest originated. Has had me wondering for weeks now…
It's a girl, and a boy!
Actually, I believe that started
here. Same day, but a few hours earlier and in a different thread.
It was just a long race--Edvald Boasson Hagen, on the Giro
Albertina thanks you...

Thanks
Hilarious stuff! If you search for “hairy chest” using the engine you’ll find about a dozen posts. And they;re all very funny!
It's a girl, and a boy!
And you know, the fact that you did search PdC posts for "hairy chest"
to me pretty much sums up the off-season.
It was just a long race--Edvald Boasson Hagen, on the Giro
Yep
Hairy Chest Time (HCT) is upon us with a vengeance. And it is still quite enjoyable in my opinion. No stress because you want to keep up with a live thread and follow the race simultaneously or because you want to podium in the next live thread. Now is the time for quiet reminiscence with the friendly people at PdC.
It's a girl, and a boy!
HCT
Is all of Italy on HCT in the winter, or just the north?

Oh. My. God.
What did we do to that thread?! When Chris put up that little ‘housekeeping’ note, could he have forseen the outcome? There are what… maybe five posts, out of 312, which are vaguely ‘on topic’?
And in the context of that thread, I would like to nominate rbjhan’s effort, in response to Albertina, as the standout post. “we can talk about other things….like…..errr…..I don’t know…….”. Well it was a struggle, but we did find other things to talk about ;-)
I miss rbjhan...
And after yesterday’s vacuum discussion I was reminded again of the robotic one she recommended and I dream of. I reread the thread too. It’s a hoot :)

+1
While there are plenty of folks around here willing to pay out on me… rbjhan’s ridicule had a special touch, LOL
I also worked out what the widgets on my computer do... I can hear rbjhan's derision ;)
… and I realised that they had everything that Firefox offers. I love them!

No, but she's become a shadow :(

Um
her last comment was yesterday. I wouldn’t write her off yet.

Yeah...
… she just hasn’t been playing with some old playmates lately. This is why she is missed ;-)
She's been quiet on twitter too the last week
Not even complaining about interest rates. But she surfaced last night telling the world how much she loves Tiger Woods and Bradley Wiggins.

Bradley's a new addition to her pantheon...

I'd like to nominate...
the whole Rabobank Rotterdam Six Day series of threads. That was great fun. Stand up for the champions. Dingalingaling! Whoa, those derney drivers are some bad-ass fat guys. Etc, etc.
Can’t wait till it starts again.
It's a girl, and a boy!
Those were some fun times, early season desperate cycling fans will chat about anything

I liked the “introduce yourself” threads, just to get a sense of where people are from, what they’re all about, etc. I kind of can’t believe I just wrote that. I think Demon Cats had one of these threads.
I'm feverished, or the way you want to spell it
just hard to pick

has to be for me the Rabobank Rotterdam Six Day series of threads
as I was de-lurked by the Evil StandUp gang only a short 11 months ago !!
Yup, great times
… and I was also dragged out of lurkdom during Rotterdam ;-)
I'm voting for the one where
Ursula convinced anyone to put Gaspa in thier VDS team (just before he didn’t!). Well written and wholly convinving (and no – i didn’t)
Our very own Nostradamus:
Christian Vandevelde – “In VDS terms I see him doing quite a bit better than last year’s 366 points. More like 750-900.” scored 335
"Gertrude" Stijn Devolder – “About the same number of VDS points- a solid 750, plus or minus.” scored 565
Gert "Stein" Steegmans – “He’ll increase his VDS points from 195 last year to 500+. Yet again we see Lefevre’s ineptitude: he just doesn’t know a rose is a rose is a rose.” scored 0
Enrico Gasparotto – “Likely outcome- In VDS-speak: 800+ points, easy.” scored 75
Luis Leon Sanchez Gil – “VDS? 250 points, tops.” scored 688
And just to rub it in:
Number of these riders on Ursula’s VDS team – 0
Ooh.. I also want to nominate the Vuelta live(??) threads..
Maybe it was a little over the top to fill one thread before the race even started but it was fun nonetheless.. (And of course the Dutch in the attack were inevitable part of the joy)
Jens' links from one live thread to the next were inspired :)

Tour Sauce. Oh, I do miss those wiseass ’beccos. May they rest in peace.
It was just a long race--Edvald Boasson Hagen, on the Giro
And we can't really kill off next year's Giro mascot so easily
poor little Dutch girl
I can't find my favourite fanposts, but I remember their titles (or part thereof)...
I’m sure you’re not surprised but ‘Frinking is Blind in the Land of the Angelsachian’ was a laydown misere for me. Not only did it crack me up, but the riffing of Jens, Sui Juris et al added to my reading pleasure ;). Apologies to The Figurehead for not remembering the complete title, but the Cadel as Don Quijote was also inspired.
Lastly, there were many live threads I enjoyed, but my favourite was post Mendrisio, not just because Cuddles won but for the spirited and varied discussions, and the generosity shown to a rider who has not always been easy to like.

Well I buggered up the order well and truly didn't I?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Thanks Jens.
My other problem is that in spite of my best efforts, I usually end up tipping people out of a thread when they click on one of my links.

I actually do, but then it does something weird. I have a similar problem with italics.
Face it , my ability to stuff up computer instructions are pathetically real.

italics, good one

Someone should nominate the hair thread
My fav is frink’s nomination – gav’s solvang time trial. A true classic. Although in that case perhaps it was the post more than the thread.
It's mentioned in the Wiggo thread... another piece of off season fluff
with over three hundred posts.

But was it after vote casting for Best Thread 2008?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
The Milram thread that's up now is entertaining me hugely...
Lurker and Drongo on song… a sight to behold :)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I'm nominating all the threads by our PdC'ers who showed us how much fun it is at live races..
Too many to choose just one

Feel free to nominate your own threads ;)
Modesty is a virtue, but you shouldn’t exaggerate.

My nominee
anything with Black Unicorn. That kid brings the quality.
