Is it a her or him and what’s his/her name?

That works.
“Me and Niels, we’re a great team!”
“Oh yes—I’ve been with Niels since December ’09.”
“I’m just heading out with Niels for awhile.”
“I’m going to ride Niels like he’s never been ridden before!”
It’s a bit sad because we all really liked Wiggo, and I think he wasn’t quite as noble as he could have been in his departure--David Millar

That last one was what the rest of this was building up to, wasn't it?

It was always coming as soon as someone suggested "Niels"
I’m actually a bit surprised it took four comments.
(Nice, Albertina. I’m jealous. :) )

(fond memories of sharing a couple of Bailey’s at the end of long days with my mum during grad school)

The Bailey's is the second thing I noticed after the bike
Excellent life choice (on both the bike and the Bailey’s) :-)

Congrats
Just did a post to share pictures of our bikes. Put both there! Niels and what is the name of the Bianchi again?
Your bike doesn't want to crash so relax and let it roll!!!

The Bianchi is called Fedaia.
So the cross bike is officially Niels then? It seems this has been decided for me ;-)

Ooh I would call it
Albertooo! So when you ride in a cliff you can say NOOOOOOO NOOOOT ALBERTOOOOOO…
Alex!. Because well.. You know..
Uncle Fred.. Because well. Every uncles name is Fred.. So Uncle Fred is one of the mot reliable names there is..
Thor. Named after the God.. Because if you ride on Thor you don’t pass or encounter him..
ZzzzzIzijiran. Because that will make the bike special

In fairness, Niels is by far the nicest name ;-)
Though your suggestions are very welcome.

Your last comment..
Is the cherry after you ate the cake.. A hangover! ;)

I don't have an Uncle Fred
‘Alex’? Why not go with the authentic (Russian) diminutive form of his name – ‘Sasha’…?
Wouldn’t a new ‘cross bike end up being called ’You Bastard’ anyway? ;-)

no way my girlfriend would let me
keep the bike in the kitchen. She complains as it is with it in the living room.
