Vote for Rider Quote of the Year! Poll Closes TODAY
Nominations are now closed--time to vote for your favorite Rider Quote of the Year! I think I got everything from the nomination thread, with the exception of one that I couldn't verify. If you see any omissions, let me know and I'll add them to the poll.
Hons, note that I changed the Andy Schleck "words" quote slightly after listening to the interview a few times to try to catch his exact wording. Also, two of the Brad Wiggins quotes nominated by andrewp were too long to fit in the allotted space, so I cut them down--originals here.
Voting closes this Friday (Dec. 18) at noon PST/3 pm EST/8 pm GMT/9 pm CET/7 am Saturday Sydney/all other locations here.

Lot's Of Race Radio Quotes
I am amazed at the number of great quotes about race radios. I am intrigued as to why this is so quote worthy.
Because our DS's are telling us they are...
"It looks like talking, but it’s just words that comes out"
~ Andy Schleck
Here's the REAL Contador quote, again
“Well, my relationship with Lance is zero. My relationship with him is zero. I think that independently of what his character is, he is still a great champion. He has won seven Tours and played a big part in this one, too. But it’s different to speak at a personal level. I have never really admired him that much, or will ever, but of course as a cyclist, he is a great champion.”

You omitted the best part from the Kenny van Hummel quote
Asked to give a comment after riding alone the whole day and still making the time limit. He starts to tell about his day but stops after a few words and then sums it up in one word.
I got dropped after 15 km, not even that, 10 km …… Character!
It lost quite a bit of its power in the translation to English.
It's a girl, and a boy!
Too late to contest
But these were good ones too (from the TdF).
@bradwiggins ‘Keep the faith people, I ain’t no Benard Khol’ (typo’s were his)
After a twit from brad about a masseur that likes linedancing his wife had this to say:
@cathwiggins ‘ok, husband shaves legs, wears lycra to work and likes aloe vera gel… wasn’t too worried until he mentioned line dancing"
It's a girl, and a boy!
Here is my actual favorite

Some riders just won’t learn. If I dropped ’em yesterday, I can also drop them today.
from Twitter..
If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to have time to do it again?
Classic
Confident, not cocky. Almost understated enough to be truly great.

Had to vote for the Hinault quote
especially as he backed it up with
" Je ne peux pas sortir une course plus qu’une autre. Les plus belles victoires sont celles qui n’étaient pas prévues et qui se sont réalisées en jouant, alors que je n’aurais jamais dû terminer la course. "
“The most beautiful victories are those which are not expected and which are realized in play – in the moment” (Trans. – Gavia Jun 8th)
Can i state I didn't vote for the Vino quote but for the... eeeh
Quote of Jens where he says he’s unhuman and only eat raw boars and beers
I sincerely hope that when Jens! has finished riding
we still have the opportunity to hear him. He’s priceless and his ebullience should be bottled.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I certainly can...
In fact I’m on record here saying it often ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I think it could be problematic
I’d miss a lot of the race, through rolling on the floor in tears laughing…
Yes, but that's when Matt or Macca take over...
And think how well he’d play in the tedious bits…

Ochre is more fun..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I can't imagine him having much sympathy for the plight of the riders
He’d look at mountains and say “oh, this is a fun! stage. They are going to suffer! today.”

Which should make commentating safer than being a DS for riders...
Can you imagine how hard he’d drive his riders? But at least he’d make them laugh ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
His riders would be OK with it.
It’s the other teams who didn’t have the benefit of “Dinner with Jens!” who would have to constantly chase his team down who would be suffering. I think it would be easier to ride for Jens! than against him.

His riders might actually want to avoid radios
So as to shut out the “ATTACK! SUFFER! ATTACK” from the team car.

They could be in for head injuries either way :)

You have to vote for any comment by a frenchman referring to a gigolo...
… but those Jens! quoes are simply priceless… but not Gigolo priceless.
"Jens! is my favorite rider. I love watching him handing out plates of hot, steaming suffer!" - Mahatma Gandhi
It's so frickin good
My intellect wants to know if gigolo is perhaps a common derrogatory idiom in France but in my heart I don’t want to spoil the fun. It just goes so well with his boorish arrogance. Who the hell uses the phrase gigolo anyway?
I am going to try very hard to now replace the epithet "Eurotrash" in my vocabulary with "Gigolo"
"Jens! is my favorite rider. I love watching him handing out plates of hot, steaming suffer!" - Mahatma Gandhi
The total votes for the rider of the year were 358.
I guess more people feel comfortable voting on quotes because it’s not like you have to win a bike race to have a valid opinion or anything. You just have to talk (“even if it’s just words coming out”)and then you have all the authority you need. ;-)

Run that by me one more time...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
He's suggesting that the love of Jens! has inspired ballot-stuffing.
People voting at work from one computer, then going home and voting from another.
How very cunning of them. If only I'd thought of it...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
You just need more than one PdC ID.
People sharing a computer can have separate accounts.

Right,
I haven’t checked but I can’t imagine the voting to be restricted by IP address, is it? Same for anonymous voting (without being logged in). “Shirley” the voting is just restricted to registered users, one per account per poll?
All those are realistic, but I can't help it
I only vote once… even when I change my mind…
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
You only have to confess if you didn't vote for Jens!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
358 total votes for the Rider of the Year.
It must be that more people feel qualified to vote because they didn’t have to win a race or something to have a valid opinion. In this poll you just have to talk (even if “it’s only words that come out”) and you are over qualified. ;-)

Is this in case we didn't get it the first time? :)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I don't understand why I can post and the message doesn't appear.
Then I wonder if I didn’t actually hit the post button and just thought I did (That’s my senility kicking in.). So I’ll try to refresh the page and see if that works. Usually at this point I decide that it was the “Universe” editing my comments and I don’t re post. This time I thought it was worth re posting, oops.

I feel strangely comforted every time someone else also experiences a computer hiccup
And mostly I don’t get it the first time anyway…

Stop the Presses!
We have a new contender.
