tee hee hee
It is my day to buy a lottery ticket.
Just totally by chance my window closed, when I opened a new one there was the new thread,
just like a fish jumping into my boat!

I love the elimination
They don’t need to take it quite so literally, though.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:02 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
One good thing about the new Olympic Omnium: the elimination
(this one is team-elim, though)
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I crashed on the wooden boards at Montreal years ago,
was picking splinters out for weeks!
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The race I crashed in was the elimination also,
(also known as the Devil),
There were 4 of us left, the rider 2nd in line checked to see behind him how many riders there were, hit the guy in 1st, fell and took me(3rd in line) and the last rider out. So three of the 4 riders crashed, guy in front rode three laps alone and won !
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That sucks!
And I swear nothing is worst than the sounds of bikes hitting the track. I cringe everytime I do. And it’s always like delayed reactions. You hear it, you start panning the track to find it, and as you do you watch more go down. Ugly stuff.
I'm ready for this road season to wrap up. Bring on Cross!

was actually quite funny in hindsight,
apart from the crash thing: must have been funny to see like 3 circus clowns all falling in line

I only smile and poke fun once I know everyone is okay.
Many broken bones in the high speed stuff.

I did break a bone I think, chipped my right thumb
didn’t realize it till days later someone went to shake my hand I went to the floor he was like "sorry did I squeeze to hard? "
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think there might be some joking to be had with this
but Ouch! Chipped thumb is a new one. Hadn’t heard of that before. Usually collar bones, elbows, knees, and nasty hip raspberries.

Don't know why they showed the front wheel on the line
Elim is taken on the back wheel.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:17 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
well none of those guys were in any danger of being eliminated, right?
by Ed K on Dec 17, 2009 5:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Dunno
Just glanced at the screen when they were showing front wheel positions.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Front wheel.
It’s the front most part that passes for most. Unless team events then it’s the 3rd riders wheel.
I'm ready for this road season to wrap up. Bring on Cross!
by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 5:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
really?
back of the back wheel?
I never knew that.
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I've never seen it the back of the back wheel.
Always the front most crossing the plane of the finish or sprint line.

by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 5:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
How do you explain bike line tosses then?
And not the Millar kind, but the sprint kind at the line?
I'm ready for this road season to wrap up. Bring on Cross!
by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 5:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Hardly makes a difference
well, one bike length :)
(which can be all the difference!) Hey, maybe I’m old & the rules have changed. Riders can actually see their front wheel so that might an argument in favor of taking it there.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:52 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm thinking of the USAC rules but I thought UCI was the same.
1P1. Judging. The finish of a race shall be judged when the front tire first penetrates the imaginary vertical plane passing through the leading edge of the finish line.

by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 6:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Sure, those are *nooooormal* races
but the elimination is different. It’s not a UCI event. Only found in sixdays, no?
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 6:14 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
This could be one of those areas where maybe
each 6day race creates their own rules? I know they each have different things determined. It’s not UCI so they can change up almost anything.

by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 6:16 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Huh, I guess the last Steherrennen doesn't count for the 6-day standing
At least I think that was what the announcer said, something about Risi/Marvulli having taken back the lead for the 3rd night.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Derny is individual, the overall is for the two man teams.
I'm ready for this road season to wrap up. Bring on Cross!
by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 5:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yes often different riders do madison, sprints, dernies.
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Shirley not madisons?!
Madison is the basis of the 6-day! Some 6-days include a sprint tourny and I guess the derny races may also be a separate category (but this is the first time I have seen that).
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
here, one group of riders do madison in teams of 2
another group does sprints
amother group does dernies / motor paced races
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Here,
Sixday is almost exclusively for 2-man teams, sometimes 3 (Grenoble, upstart Apeldoorn). They take turns or take the best suited of the 2 for the single events like derny. Points go to the team.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:46 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I thought the sprints and dernys
were to break up the evening for excitement. Each rider/team has to do the same event for the omnium so it would most likely be the points related races.
I'm ready for this road season to wrap up. Bring on Cross!
by nikki on Dec 17, 2009 5:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The sixdays I know
count team/sixday points in all events. But laps in the madison still take precedence. Bonus lap after every 100 points so other events have some influence but the madison is still the most important event of all and almost always the decider.
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 5:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
originally six day riders did all events
it is only since being delurked at Rotterdam in Jan ’09 I was aware different riders did different events now / at some or most six days
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:56 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
someone quick wake up Phil for dernies!
are you there? or just speechless?
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
noob alert!
are those rollers on the back of the derny?

Is this a pre race
As in person ahead when they call time wins?
by tshawytcha on Dec 17, 2009 5:45 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Do they assign drivers by draw
or do the riders pick ’em? I can see that the derny drivers skill could make or break this race!
by tshawytcha on Dec 17, 2009 5:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
more Q's
radios or do they just yell at the driver—faster, slower, high line, low…?
by tshawytcha on Dec 17, 2009 5:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
drivers know riders really well, they try to speed up and win race for the rider,
assuming the rider hang on to the increased speed at the finish

Yep
and sometimes things like this in Gent happen :)

Usually they are decided before the event.
Certain riders that do these all the time almost always have the same driver.

hey nikki are you going to write the book,
or is it going to be all of us:
“Stand Up – The official insiders guide to the Long Lost World of Six Day Racing”
by peterfish on Dec 17, 2009 5:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
LOL! That would be awesome
but I would never tackle writing on my own. I’m usually good for connecting people who are good at that versus any writing of my own. Think we could just combine all of our threads and create one that way?

4 now!
by tedvdw on Dec 17, 2009 6:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
really makes a difference, being down low or up top
you have to go way faster each lap up top

Is it all over?
"…I saw bloody Cavendish coming, really fast…"

Unfortunately so
I found the original post with video link about 5 minutes before the feed stopped.
I watched 5 minutes of multiple neon lights flashing over an empty track hoping, wishing, for a race to start. No dice.
