Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

It was expected that Allan would go to Astana to reunite the old Liberty Seguros team but he has brought his brother Scott with him, who rode for T-Mobile and then Columbia in '06-'08. Allan should have full support at Astana so he can finally try to get an elusive GT stage win and have a run at San Remo, where the last 3 years he has has finished on 2nd (07) and 4th this year.

Hmm

not surprised about Allan. He has been rumored to be signing with them since Oct. I wish them both good luck, hope they get paid. If I was a rider, I would be very hesitant to ride for them.

What has Alby got to lose? It's not as though QS was a good fit

and they’re not beating down his door with offers.

Apparently Albi did have other offers... He mentioned in an article i read a day or so ago(i'll find the link)

I guess having the opportunity to ride with two TdF champions and to be the lead sprinter in a Pro team it’s worth taking the contract..

I guess the being paid thing is sorted, as Astana had to meet the UCI Criteria to get a licence..

I agree that

QS wasn’t the best fit for him, I wasn’t surprised at all to see him leave QS. But, what does he have to lose with Astana? Not getting paid! Astana seems to play by their own rules. I’m sure they offered him a nice contract and to be the lead sprinter and that was worth the risk for him. I hope it works out for him. As do I hope it works out for Oscar too. I just don’t trust Astana at all.

was it ever confirmed that a rider

actually was not paid. From what i’ve read every rider that was asked denied it.

by yeehoo on Dec 22, 2009 6:32 AM EST up reply actions

I thought what happened is that everyon had to be paid from the UCI reserve

Or more accurately, Bruny would have fronted the money and the reserve would have been drawn down from their. Wasn’t the deal that there was no more money left in the UCI account to keep paying, and Bruny wasn’t being paid for salaries by the Kazics.

Alby hasn't confirmed it yet ;-)

And I can’t bring myself to go searching in cyrillic for the Kaz Fed ‘statement’ just at the moment (it’s been a long day for me… maybe after dinner…)

The media in Bundy say he’ll be clearing rumours up soon.

Forgive me… my Media Bullshit Filter has very fine tolerances these days, LOL.

If it’s true, y’all can watch me doing the happy dance :-). As I said the other day, I’d love to see an Aussie riding for the benefit of the glorious nation, and I anticipate the benefit being mutual in Alby’s case.

Just a thought… the whole ‘pay’ thing that keeps coming up… I don’t recall ever hearing of any such issues prior to the period when Astana had temporarily morphed into Postal. What happened while Astana was Postal might not be indicative of what to expect from Astana-as-Astana. (have I lost anyone? LOL)

I'm with you. I think Alby will be fine

and all the better for not being with QS. No disrespect to that team – just a poor fit.

What?

You mean,

It is nice to be important,It is more important to be nice!

or

massive swell off Saint Jean De Luz today, bro’s getting pulled in from Jet skie. great training ride along the coast today.

some thing more important than those two?? WHAT COULD IT BE????

by ursula on Dec 23, 2009 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

Anyone know anything about his brother?

What does he bring to the table? I mean other than being named Davis.

by MambaFan on Dec 22, 2009 12:24 PM EST reply actions

he is essentially a domestique from the results that I looked up....

He was with T-mobile/Columbia for 3 years but he didn’t have any results to speak of. He isn’t too bad of a climber but he isn’t that great. It seems that he can go well in a TTT but not in the ITT. He can sprint a little but nowhere near his brother.

More to worry about

During the Tour this year Astana was found to have transfusion equipment that is illegal.

Interesting...

So Oclaesp has found a possibly illegal infusion kit. That’s the big news here. The other stuff, the syringes, etc, were known in October I think and there’s nothing illegal with them yet. No illegal substances, specifically HGH, have been found though they have had the time to get DNA profiles on users of the syringes. So unless they find some banned substance those DNA samples go nowhere even if they identify who the users were. That leaves the infusion kit which Johann has already denied is illegal. We’ll see, won’t we?

Patrick Lefevere

by lucybears on Dec 29, 2009 9:33 AM EST reply actions

Well well well

So while we wait for ‘confirmation’ of Alby heading to Astana, we learn that he is still in fact under contract to QST.

Did the Kaz Fed tea-lady lie to her best buddy, the Dutch journalist? Or was the journo’s Russian not quite up to scratch after all?

;-)

by Lou... on Dec 30, 2009 8:05 AM EST up reply actions

Apparently this was of Alby's doing...

He informed the team he was going to leave any didn’t even think about his contract. This looks like it might be a bit of a fight.

by Vlaanderen90 on Dec 30, 2009 9:14 AM EST up reply actions

True...

Patrick said something like the days of him letting riders leave for free are over. Davis will need to pay up to leave.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
