Where would cycling be without Europeans? The non-Europeans only beat the (B-D list)sprinters

Football is a game, cycling a sport.

Non-Europeans could be a bit bland...

If we’re going to do this for a year, we need a bit of flair… and whilst I will take Stuey even though it’s not very hopeful, I’m thinking that Gesink has to be there. Of course, I don’t expect to win. I have to go with ’Heart’s Country’…

Yeah, I had to have Stuey last (this) year too...

It makes no sense in terms of points, but that doesn’t really matter does it?

I'm built for descending...

by omnevelnihil on Dec 27, 2009 6:09 AM EST up reply actions

Not one bit! But I just spied Mauricio Soler at 2 points,

so I’m thinking it’s swings and roundabouts… or to use another cliche, ‘rob Peter to pay Paul’…

Even the “No Europeans Allowed” team has a European :)

by tedvdw on Dec 27, 2009 6:19 AM EST up reply actions

I'm thinking perhaps Pauwels... but I know if I'm wrong you'll let me know...

I was hoping this post would inspire someone...

to write a great article on the Coming Non-European Hegemony… ;-)

Hm...

Maybe after my Belgium trip.

Daydreaming without Official VDS rules? Did I miss them?

What are the limits on the big point riders?
If none then I’ll take the A team. Seriously I need to know what I’m working with so I can spend the entire month of February trying to figure out how to email my team. My illiteracy demands that I spend more time trying to send my team in than picking it.

Yeah-we have no official rules yet.

So we don’t know the restrictions that Chris will put on the expensive guys.

by ursula on Dec 27, 2009 10:58 AM EST up reply actions

My first couple years

I tried to pick as many Belgians as possible.. Ok, not the best strategy since you’re season’s pretty much over mid April. Plus if your headliners get disqualified in P-R for an illegal train track crossing, you’e really cooked. Last year I went with a different strategy and picked a team that was about 80% Italian. Pippo was great early on, but Cunego was a major dissapointment and the rest of the team was uninspired at best. And I really didn’t like any of them to boot. Ok, for the record 6 of my great grandparents were born in Italy, but my cycling soul is 100% Belgian.

I’m going back to my original strategy, but will include Australians as well.

Is there anything better than

Ursula with time on his hands, a VDS list, and a largish supply of meth? I say no.

Merry Christmas Petey – when are you going to fix my cross bike?

Yeah I know

he’s about a subtle as a swift kick to the groin…

by Mr Van P on Dec 27, 2009 11:13 AM EST up reply actions

If you'd rather have a kick to the groin than a Chimay, ok.

But I prefer the other way we work.

Thanks Drew

Bring it down whenever you’d like. Meg went to CT yesterday to visit her sister so i had the boys all day, so it would have been hard. I’m around the next bunch of weekends.

by Mr Van P on Dec 27, 2009 10:09 AM EST reply actions

I'd take the challenge...

… if only I had a little time on my hands. Which I have not regrettably.

Team name: The Rainbow Warriors
Consists of riders who have one the rainbow jersey once. Pick from:
Elite Road, Elite TT, U23 Road Race, and U23 TT.

Pick some big point scorers from the Elite riders and fill the team up with lower cost riders from the U23 categories. If needed the team can be completed with support riders who helped their captain win the jersey…

Team Gender Ambiguous

Please note that the team name has nothing to do with appearance! It’s comprised of riders whose first names could just as easily belong to women—at least if you’re American. I’m sure Daniele is a very macho name in Italy.

Andy Schleck 24
Tyler Farrar 20
Matti Breschel 16
Kim Kirchen 14
Daniele Bennati, Luca Paolini 10
Michele Scarponi , Jani Brajkovic 8
Niki Terpstra 6
Gert Steegmans, Sandy Casar, Stef Clement, Emanuele Sella 4
Dominique Cornu, Hayden Roulston, Jan Bakelants, Remi Di Gregorio, Angel Vicioso, Chris Froome 2
Cameron Meyer, Romana Kireyev, Alex Howes, Andrea Masciarelli, Robin Chaigneau, Addy Engels 1

Cost: 150
Last year’s earnings: 6473

(Note: while most of the names are unambiguously ambiguous, some I looked up to verify that they are currently used for both sexes. I mostly used babynames.com.)

Benns

Maybe we should nickname, Benna, “Steele” as in Daniele “Steele” Bennati.

Nice team!

Come on Ursula,

You just wanted to say that you think Benna has ‘Buns of Steel’.
