I agree it's about Phinney
From his tweets, Phinney seems to still work with Lim a lot, and their relationship seems quite deep.

I guess we should have seen this coming.
Phinney has been tweeting about working with him for a while. I thought maybe Lim was doing some contract work or just didn’t put 1+1 together.
i think it has to do with the olympics
If they get rid of Individual Pursuit, as has been recommended, then Phinney loses out on his best chance at winning the Gold. So, he might as well slow down his track ambitions and focus more on the road.
I think it’s crazy though, kid is 19 years old with not much in the way of experience. the U23 Roubaix win was huge, but I still think he needs more seasoning in the U23 ranks before joining the pros.
But that was with the Mapei super team with Cancellara and Rogers.
and none of them really rode any big stage races so it wasn’t like they were riding Pro Tour races.
The situation is different...He defintely could turn pro but I don't, personally, think he is ready to go
to the Pro Tour. When Pozzato and Cance and all the other guys went to Mapei, they were not on the Top Team. They were doing continental races against other Division 2 and 3 teams so they didn’t have to go into the sketchy world of U23’s in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. If he gets some big wins this year in Continental level racing then he should be ready to go.
And look at his racing instincts
FOLLOWFOLLOWFOLLOW
I think a few years as a youngster could have helped him develop tactically.

hincapie was 19 when he turned pro...

It is all about the money here though they replaced with somebody arguably better with
Dr. Inigo San Milan. If you look at his teams he has work with (ONCE, Saunier Duval, and Astana) you might think he is a dirty guy but the truth is that he quit both Saunier and Astana before the shit hit the fan and he has a good anti-doping stance. Another cool thing is that he has spreadsheets of how fast guys have been climbing in the Tour from about the mid 80’s on so that he can compare speeds through out the generations.
