Apparently, Lance Armstrong and the Shackers held a press conference this morning in Arizona. Bonnie Ford, among other journalists, attended and learned such things as The Shack is not all about Lance Armstrong, and it will be the best team in the world. A few less routine questions slipped through the usual press conference ritual.

Bonnie Ford reports:

Armstrong press conference was straightforward, no surprises, though those of us who were actually working did not appreciate the amateur ?s

For example?

like, "if you were a bike component, which one would you be?'' which thankfully went unanswered.

Kids, these days.

Hah!

OK, when I see “amateur questions” I think That’s Me! But in this case, she meant “childish,” not “amateur.”

ja

I can’t really imagine you asking a question like that one. More like, Lance, why don’t you ever ride the Ronde? Are you afraid of cobbles? ;-)

No

I’d go straight to whether he thinks the Paterberg is harder than the Eikenmolen.

or is that the Oude Kwaaremont?

good thing we have pros like her to ask the tough questions

"Ants don’t worry, they operate like a fantastic team, they accept obstacles and deal with them in a positive manner, they don’t complain and remain positive. An ant doesn’t work on emotion, is proactive and always chooses the ant role."

definitely something campy, maybe the big 29 cog back cassette.

Ok I have to sya it.. Bah Bonnie Ford..

Cycling is famous because people get close to the cyclists and there is not much space between the followers and cyclists. So please twit the other way around.. The fans didn’t appreciate those bloody journalists who all are writing the same. Please send just one next time..

Sorry..

She is an amateur...

When it comes to cycling. Her coverage for ESPN during the Tour (and all of ESPN’s coverage of cycling generally) exhibits a lack of knowledge of the sport.

On the one hand, I’m happy to see it on a mainstream media outlet. On the other hand, the coverage they do provide is such a joke and so Lance-ccentric that outsiders will never get a real appreciation for whats going on during the race (the TdF).

I remember ESPN reporters sounding shocked that Lance did not win the Tour Down Under last season and saying that his comeback might be over when he broke his collar bone and sounding confused about the whole Asatana team dynamic and wondering why ’Bert would have the nerve to want to lead the team. At least they could have on of the Versus guys report.

Might be true of ESPN in general

but I would def not say she is lacking in knowledge. I think you might need to re-read her columns.

by Jens on Dec 9, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

Bonnie Ford and Juliet Macur of the NY Times are both doing good coverage.

by gavia on Dec 9, 2009 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

then again...

Perhaps she has to dumb it down for all the people who watch ESPN and thought that cycling did not exist for 3 years when Lance retired…

OK, so Borat was there

He’s on the Astana payroll, presumably.

questions

Well they are amateur questions as no one has ever seriously questioned him about doping…..except Kimmage.

(while: criticism = no more access to Lance = no fans = zero $€£)

Example being :

all the CyclingWeekly/CycleSport people dripping with contempt on Twitter. And yet, what do I find on the cover when I buy the latest issue of CycleSport yesterday? Lance Armstrong

Wait...

Do CW and CS own one another? Just curious.

Same company I'm sure

At least it’s the same dumb f*** who does popup ads for both their webs.
