Around SBN: FSU To Big 12 'Inevitable,' According To Report

ATOC weather?

Just checking the forecast for the greater SF bay area region.  Blech...

Unsettled wet weather is expected to persist Friday night through
the weekend and into next week as one system after the other swing
into the region. Models are in fairly good agreement with only
slight timing differences to note. However the one thing they do
agree on is the at saturdays system will be wet. Over an inch of
precipitation is expected at lower elevations with nearly two inches
possible over elevated terrain. This system may pose a threat to
the burn areas of Monterey and will need to be monitored closely.

Please be good please be good please be good...!

why is TOC so early in the year?

just the only / best slot available? It just seems a risky weather proposition

It's my understanding that this was deemed the best time to get on the UCI calendar...

… so that it can grab high talent. A quick look at the calendar will show that to be pretty much the only slot left. Which is a shame because an early June or late September race would be awe inspiring to watch… they could use both the north half and the southern half of the state and the western and eastern slopes of the Sierras.

I’d love to see a race starting in Mariposa and ending in Lee Vining via Yosemite… if they’d leave the team cars behind, ban bottles, snacks and natural breaks, and bar any fans from lining the road to watch. Ok… so it’s not such a good idea I know…

The TdF

has an organization that follows the race every day cleaning up ….. not sure for TOC or other races

it would be a shame if they avoided places like Yosemite (honeymooned there!) just because they are afraid of the mess

That would be kinda funny,

to see riders get smacked around with their bear canisters instead of musettes.

If it was in January, the weather would have been better.

In Nor Cal we had 70 degree days and sunshine for too many days/weeks in a row. I’m glad the rain’s finally here.

Remember the first day is in Sacramento....not the Bay Area

Sacramento – Saturday
Mostly cloudy. A chance of rain showers. Highs 45 to 53.

Davis – Sunday
Mostly cloudy. A chance of rain. Breezy. Highs 49 to 57.

Santa Rosa – Sunday and Sunday Night
Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs in the 40s to mid 50s. Lows near 40.

Sausalito – Presidents Day
Partly cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs around 50.

Santa Cruz – Presidents Day
Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs in the 40s to lower 50s.

We desperately need rain here in California….selfishly I hope rain pors after the race.

It's looking wet and stormy

With chances of mountain snow early in the week. Models could change, but Cali looks to be in a wet pattern for a bit here. Which, is normal for this time of year – the past three years have been drought years, unusually dry.

LOL, pack your warmies if you’re coming to Cali. Hopefully it turns out better than the predictions are saying now, though really, I’d be happy to watch the bike race in the rain if it means an end to the drought and lower fire risk.

Lower fire risk... HA!

The universe has it in for Malibu… one of these years, it’s all going to go up…

Sure...

But lots of other places that have been burning aren’t normally fire-prone like ’bu.

The Mamas and the Papas may have it right,

with their California Dreamin (except for the warm thing)

" the sky is grey I’ve been for a walk On a winter’s day I’d be safe and warm If I was in L.A. California dreamin’ On such a winter’s day "

During the early part of last year

I had this song in my head. During the TOC I heard it everyday on my friends ipod at the gym. Fits cycling if you let it.

"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."

The weather is not looking good

Forecast is for heavy rain and wind starting Saturday afternoon and on through the weekend, with 4 to 5 inches of rain along the coast range, and 2 across lower elevations.
Snow levels down to 2500 feet on Sunday. Bring your warm woolies folks…
