Levi Leipheimer has suffered a flat and is currently being assisted by three Astana teammates, including Lance Armstrong, to regain contact with the field.
10:05 PST
Carlos Sastre has dropped back to the team car and is looking none too pleased with the weather. It appears he’s trying to get some warmer clothing to combat the elements.
I told him to do that.
Saturday morning, as Astana rode by for their second ride-through of the chrono, I shouted, “ride for Levi, Lance!!”
Good boy.
Emily sez she's all the muffins herself
this racing is brutal
Kirsten
emily made six muffins...
…and has five on her plate.
(Her first MTB race is March 1, so we gotta cut her some slack.)
Emily, cringing, sez
we just jinxed any chance she has of getting “not last.”

Be back in a few

Dude.
I am so sick and tired of Frankie and Boogie Joe talking about facial hair every time Cozza or Z is on the screen.
Try "just" listening to these two today.
I couldn’t get ctv up earlier and didn’t have time to play with it.

well...
…for around here, it’s a “good” climb, but not considered nasty-nasty. And I’ve never done alpe d’huez to compare.
My guess is that there could be a little stretching out, but I suspect that these boys will all be back together shortly if there are gaps.
Just guessin’ tho.
exactly what time zone does martin think the us is in anyway?
10:30am is early in the west?

How has it been over there?
I’m thinking of trying to switch over as I’m taking a quick lunch break for a minute. I like Frankie but today is driving me a little nuts.

i've had no probs... but, then again i use low and listen instead of watching

I might move over there then.
I can’t watch, too much going on but listening is fair game.

Do you know Santa Cruz at all?
I used to eat at a burrito place there that was either in or next to a laundromat. The burritos were excellent
No! the RR jerseys are starting to show

i gotta get to the store
I use racing to learn about wine. Look at the stage maps, see what wine regions the riders go through, buy a wine for each stage.
12 hour days at work b/f the prologue meant no wine purchased yet.
it stopped raining. maybe today. i’ll have a lot of drinking to catch up on, tho

CN:
11:01 PST
The break is still together on the climb and the time gap has now topped 4’00 to the peloton, at 4’05. Carlos Borredo is still setting tempo in the break.
11:02 PST
There is a huge crowd amassed at the summit for the KOM. The break is now inside of 1km to go to the summit.
The peloton is splitting up under Rock Racing’s tempo.
11:04 PST
Thomas Lövkvist (Team Columbia – Highroad) has had a flat on the climb and is getting help from a teammate.
11:07 PST
When the peloton descends off of the KOM it will pass through the town of La Honda. Evidently, the peloton will pass by the residence of Neil Young. No word on whether he’s at home.

I’m trying and failing to remember which philosopher discussed this…I think he spoke about a tree rather than a race however.

They stopped the race, played part of his resignation speech over the loudspeakers—then the crowd got restless so they cut it off and started up the cars again. So much for history.

but he just was saying under oath what he thought he heard is all: re the hospital room thing.
Don’t think he was actually laughing at Lance’s crash, just the situartion – but yeah he should not have laughed I guess
12:21 PST
Armstrong is back on a spare bike, being paced back to the peloton by Chechu Rubiera.
However, there is also word that a massive 50-rider crash has affected the peloton.
