Thanks VS

Back in 95, I was watching the San Jose Sharks in the playoffs. In the middle of the playoff game, the cable people switched the coverage to the Oakland A’s regular season pregame. WTF I thought. They claimed that 5 times more people watch a regular season baseball game than a playoff hockey game in the Bay Area. Prior advertiser commitments, follow the money, yada, yada.

I have come full circle (or something). Once I was pissed at baseball for ruining my hockey experience. Now I am angry at hockey for ruining my cycling experience. I’m switching to badmitton so cycling can pre-emt that.

He won TWO grand tours last year...

He has a chance at 50% of that glory this year… no extra points for winning le tour vs. el vuelta vs. il giro.

If I was a true fanboy… I’d pick a team with Lance AND Bert on it thinking i could pick up Giro and Tour wins… but that’s putting way too many eggs in one basket.

Seriously… that’s three eggs.

Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc.

by crashdan on Feb 17, 2009 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

Hold it one darn minute

Your rationalizations are gonna get you close to last place again.

For this year Bert should at absolute minimum (meaning he doesn’t get hurt or OP lands on him tomorrow, which it won’t), get 1000 points. That’s if Bert doesn’t win a race because even if he doesn’t win he’ll place high in the standings for every race except maybe Paris-Nice. You drink that kool-aid? You just saw Levi last year get 1500+ points without winning a VDS race and scoring zip in the Vuelta too. Bert could do the same this year.

Then you have Bert’s upside- a cool 3000 points if he wins everything. Maybe he won’t do that- but he’ll enter every race as the favorite.

Levi? As I just said Levi won 1500+ without actually winning anything but a couple of stages here and there. That scenario looks plausible again this year.

Lance? He’s looking better than I expected at Cali. Still I’m not sold on him winning much because the competition at California isn’t that formidable compared to what he’ll face starting in a month. He will get better- but so will everyone in this field, including Levi. He’s the big risk of the three IMO.

AAAARRRGH!

We had a training run tonight, so I taped the Versus coverage. I set it to run an hour over in case the stage went long. Watched two fricking hours worth of the race, and then they cut out and say, “Oh, watch the rest online.” The rest that had been over for a couple of hours at this point but which we might have still caught when we got home if we hadn’t been avoiding the internet because we were going to watch the freaking tape of the race.

Damn it, damn it, damn it.

Make a stomp or two for me.

Yesterday, I taped it longer than it suggested. I sat down and watched/fwd through over 4 hours and it clips off. I was pissed. All I wanted to watch was the ending and it cut off just after Levi came up to Tom and Jason. UGH. I think I’m done with versus live showings this week. At least the hour recap shows the ending, well sort of.

Post Stage three wrap up....

I have thought long and hard about that sprint for the line in Modesto today whilstI have been protecting my dog from the local bird life when she plucks up enough courage to go out for a poo. It’s obvious innit!!!! No Hansen, No Columbia!! Adam would not have let those ponses from the CTT even get to the front (unless Bretty asked nicely) from after they swamped the break…but where was he?? I’m trying to find out. I’ve even got Cycle Girl offering to change his tyres for him in return for sans CN or VN news. No Hansen…NO Cavendish!!!
I’m riding tomorrow…enjoy stage 4…beware the Saxo Bank train.

by Flatbagger on Feb 18, 2009 6:51 AM EST reply actions

Just found out...

…he’s not well the poor boy!!

I woke up this morning with pains in my stomach, and never wanted to see food again…. Yes I was one of the many that caught the bug going around……. but you can read about that in the news sections…..

It was raining and I was feeling ok…. not the best, but remember I didnt eat anything since last nights dinner, but then again, I threw all that up so I dont think I had food in my stomach since at least 18hours.

The race started and I was just at the back trying to survie to get healthy again for the next few days. On the first climb I was out the back, I had nothing, no energy, no power, nothing! I had trouble to focus and my decent was scary. As the race went on I was getting worse as I couldnt stomach food and getting no energy. I spent a good part of the day riding in the cars, something I have not done in years. Infact, I was dropped more times today then my whole career I think. I really shouldnt have been on the bike.

I manage to finish, alive which I thought was a good thing. Doing 186km on 140cals was not the smartest things I have ever done! But not the stupidest either

from his blog yesterday…

errrr....am i supposed to sign this??
