VDS Deadline: This Wednesday!
Admittedly I have discouraged people from submitting their entries too soon, but that's over. Your favorite racers are mostly off the bike now, and even if they are bombing around Portugal, well, you're about out of time anyway. So please email me your team by Wednesday, 2/25, midnight Pacific time if you are planning to join the Virtual Directeur Sportif 2009. For all the rules and other info, go HERE. When you're ready, the address to email is:
vdsentry2009@yahoo.com
Don't use the Podiumcafe address for submissions (use it for questions though), and don't accidentally send it to vdsentry2008, this won't end well. Good luck!!

Chris, a question regarding the MS.EXCEL spreadsheet -
Is the “DS” block for some cutesy DS nickname we come up with or is it used for official tracking? Thanks.
I tried to get Drew to call his team "Lords of Death" DS'd by Joe Lucky, Needles and One Ear...
… but he wouldn’t do it. It’s up to you now Wellsie…

You failed to mention
that I already had a cool name for my team before your suggestion.

Sent mine
this morning. I think I followed the protocol correctly (I hope so, anyway).
Mine should be there
Would have made nice earnings in California, now watch them all plummet or injure themselves for the rest of the season :0)
Sent another one ...
I have just sent mine as well. I’m new to this game so wondering what it will bring me …
Um
Got a suggestion as to how to turn 200 emails into a presentation? Actually Monty has designed a potentially lethal device to that effect, but we’ll see how soon I can turn it around…

Yeah. Start thread, encourage people to present their teams.
You do enough around here to worry about presenting them for us.

Sort of like the sound of the beer tap in Desperado?
… yeah… that’s what I thought.

Aw, it's okay.
Just post your tentative list, and we’ll look it over and see if there’s anybody good on it we overlooked give you good, solid advice. Always happy to help!

Oh ok, you're so nice majope.....no wait.....there's an agenda here....you may not see it!
I’ll only tell you that I didn’t pick Benna….about which I feel ever so bad.
Man I left him off mine too.
Dang. There is another rider I left off too that I kept going back and forth with. I love the guy and damn it, he’s going to in P-R this year. He just has to. It’s not like I was going for a huge points team so you’d think it’d have been easy. Tough decisions.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
You girls will burn in hell for that
Actually I am shocked by Benna’s omission from your teams. I mean he’s not just beautiful but he’s a good value too.
I've just seen that, your buy and sell thing, and now I feel even worse!
Benna or Cav, Cav or Benna…..the stress is too much, truly it is.
Well... let's see... one is a mush mouth that hasn't managed to make it over the Pyrenees...
… the other is a devestatingly handsome Ciclamina winner.
Decisions… decisions…

It was not easy to leave him off.
But I like who I picked in place of him. He’s not hot like Benna but I like his racing. I’m trying to justify it by saying that I would cheer for Benna regardless because, well, it’s Benna. This whole team thing is mind messing torture. Pick him, oh wait Majope just noted a miss with him. Oh wait, go with this one. Crap, Ursula just said sell. My head hurts from all the great work you guys are doing!!!

I have finished my team
It is a good team, probably the best team I have ever assembled. I have no GC contenders on my team, a sure way to victory!
Sometimes I wonder...why is that Frisbee getting bigger?...and then it hits me.
You wanna know the really bad news
Apparently Contador said something in an interview that he was thinking of doing the Ardennes Classics too this year.
Ha! That frightens me?
Let him squander his nut.
Sometimes I wonder...why is that Frisbee getting bigger?...and then it hits me.
"Let him squander his nut."
Aren’t there laws against that in the Bible?
Racing for Victory and Free Beer!
In my youth I was told that in a certain city every one lived according to the Scriptures...
And I said, "I will seek that city and the blessedness thereof." And it was far. And I made great provision for my journey. And after forty days I beheld the city and on the forty-first day I entered into it.
And lo! the whole company of the inhabitants had each but a single eye and but one testicle. And I was astonished and said to myself, "Shall they of this so holy city have but one eye and one nut?"
Then I saw that they too were astonished, for they were marveling greatly at my two eyes and my two balls. And as they were speaking together I inquired of them saying, "Is this indeed the Blessed City, where each man lives according to the Scriptures?" And they said, "Yes, this is that city."
"And what," said I, "hath befallen you, and where are your right eyes and your right coconut?"
And all the people were moved. And they said, "Come thou and see."
And they took me to the temple in the midst of the city. And in the temple I saw a heap of nads and eyes. All withered. Then said I, "Alas! what conqueror hath committed this cruelty upon you?"
And there went a murmur amongst them. And one of their elders stood forth and said, "This doing is of ourselves. God hath made us conquerors over the evil that was in us."
And he led me to a high altar, and all the people followed. And he showed me above the altar an inscription graven, and I read:
"If thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Squander not thy eye. And if thy right ball offend thee, cut if off and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Squander not thy nut"
Then I understood. And I turned about to all the people and cried, "Hath no man or woman among you two eyes or two balls?"
And they answered me saying, "No, not one. There is none whole save such as are yet too young to read the Scripture and to understand its commandment."
And when we had come out of the temple, I straightway left that Blessed City; for I was not too young, and I could read the scripture.

Right. Team Txirrindulariak is duly selected and sent in.
And guess what? I put Bennati in. This may the last time I let my heart rule my head…..
Yep... my head keeps saying that too...
… but my heart keeps telling my head to shut the fuck up so I never hear it.

Thanks for the reassurance (and the cookie)
but I won’t be pleased if his achilles explodes at Flanders…..
You mean if "his achilles makes explosschies inside the body"?
He can just look up Pepsi Franck and he’ll fix him right up.
Of course
You read every single letter written here on the PodCafe don’t you?
He refers to a short Danish clip with a sketch of two doping cyclists. Jens posted the link at least twice.
Er, right, must have missed that one.
Those must be some of the letters I ommitted to read between having a full time job, being a part time musician, being an overworked writer on obscure Basque sports, commuting for two hours a day etc etc etc ;-)
Totally understandable
I’m just trying to fill you in.
For me, having finished my VDS team, freed a lot of memory capacity for mundane things like work, family etc. etc.
On the other hand, I now have 25 riders in 23 different teams to follow during the next 8 months or so… AARGHH
I feel much better informed :-)
23 different teams? That’s quite an achievement. I haven’t counted how many I have.
So I was ½ right
Not too bad for a quick comment. Imagine how great this site would be if all comments were at least ½ right…
Sent in mine
Alas, already the enterprise I started with great pith and moment is sickled over with the pale cast of doubt…
