Matteo Priamo acquitted of dope-dealing

The Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal today acquitted Matteo Priamo, charged with supplying nasty pills to last year's VDS MVP Emanuelle Sella.

Sella had been given one year off his suspension for supposedly grassing up his ex-teammate, but when he was strapped to the chair and had a light shoe on his face he began to crack. "He gave it to me a few days before 13th July." was the story at first, then "make that 10-15 days." then "It was the afternoon of the 30th of June." "Oh, and my wife was there too."

No doubt the lawyers here would have torn that apart too. Priamo was away in a training camp from 6th to 13th of July, and had spent most of the afternoon of the 30th in a clinic getting treatment for an injury. When Sella's wife suggested that it might have been another day then it was all clearly over.

So Sella's story is a bunch of bs

then why is his suspension still a mere 1 year? Just because he talked a bunch and gave a bunch of information, even though it wasn’t even accurate. If all of Sella’s stories about Priamo are lies, therefore costing Priamo a job and a lot of pain, then that’s even more sickening to me than him cheating his way to 3 stage wins and a mountain jersey.

Priamo's acquittal doesn't make Sella's story bs.

Sounds like Sella’s testimony was vague enough for Priamo’s lawyers to get him off.

If it was vague enough that Priamo was completely aquitted than it was mostly bs

if there was any truth to it Priamo wouldn’t have been completely let off the hook, and a further investigation may have been started. At first they wanted to suspend Priamo 4 years and now he is free to go without any suspension, which says to me that they have no proof to back up the already shaky accusation Sella made.

suspiciously good luck

to name only the days when your teammate has an airtight alibi. I mean, they must have been together a few times, right? But not on any of the days mentioned. Hmmmmmm.

I thought Priamo tested positive as well

If that’s true, then he still has his doping suspension to deal with.

As usual Capodacqua has a lot more details.

Sella apparently claimed that he only ever took one dose of CERA, on 13th of July last year (Ha Ha Ha Ha). There is also evidencce that he has been in conduct with Dr Enrico Lazzaro, a familiar figure in these investigations who has been banned before. But as he is apparently no longer banned then Sella cannot be disciplined for visiting him in the way DiLuca was banned for visiting Santuccione. He also claims that his visits were partly for tests and partly because Lazzaro is a friend. That was another point that Priamo’s lawyers pointed out: if you were Sella, who would you first ask to get you drugs.

And just to weaken the value of his confession even further, apparently he asked a certain Guido Nigrelli (don’t know any more, sorry) to get him some dope, but he too denies having had any contact.

There could well be more to come on this one.

si, more to come for sure

It will be interesting to see if CONI takes this one to TAS. They have before when the Tribunale thingy has denied their recommendation. I’d be interested to know what else CONI and NAS have on Priamo. Was it only Sella’s word? Or, do they have more evidence.

I also think it likely that both rider’s stories are true. That, indeed, Priamo did not help Sella dope on the occasion of 13 July. He was elsewhere. But, at the same time, I rather suspect Priamo helped him – and provided doping products – on other occasions.

This could become quite entertaining before it’s over, actually.

just because

you can prove you were elsewhere on the day of(whatever day that actually was because Mini dope can’t remember) when Sella claims that Priamo gave him the ticket for the magic carpet ride shouldn’t acquit Priamo of doping suspicion. As usual, my faith in Coni is teetering towards the WTF side. I hope that they get him. As for Sella, I think that they should have gave him the max. He was so doped that whole Giro. Come on, can anyone really stand next to this guy and believe that he won’t be struck by lightning?
Coni should set the bar high here. This was an Italian team with the “best climber” in the country’s most prestigious race. How long did Peta get?.
Something smells here.

But CONI are doing far more than anyone else seems to

This case just seems so odd by their standards. But if they couldn’t make their “pipi of the angels” charges stick then why bother when your supposed star witness can’t even stick to two different versions of his story. I suspect that other stuff will come to light in a few months or so.
