or perhaps before people subscribe would be even better?
Did your favourite rider just win Montepaschi Strade Bianch Eroica Toscana? OK then.

Rebecca
While you have a generous build up of goodwill among most of us, this kind of absurdity can quickly erode it. As I’ve said previously, your employers should be logging on to PdC to explain themselves and take their lashes – which they richly deserve.
There have been at least a gazillion practical suggestions for improvement by people who seem to know what they’re talking about. Yet we get this latest announcement. That certainly may be false advertising – CTV’s disclaimers notwithstanding.
I think someone mentioned a class action lawsuit against CTV. But what if lots of folks filed their own lawsuits individually? Does CTV a) want to run that risk (and/or the negative PR associated with it) and/or b) expend the resources on dealing with those lawsuits? I’d like to think the answer is no, but given the ongoing screwups, I’m beginning to wonder. There are at least 3 attorneys that I’m aware of who are PdC members. Each of them lives in a different part of the country.
Just a thought – not a threat or a plan. Again, we’ve been exceedingly patient for the most part, but CTV’s apparent sleight of hand is simply inexcusable. My subscription comes due soon, and I’m seriously considering not renewing. I never thought I’d get to that point, but here I am.
Thanks to CTV’s poor service and customer service, many folks have provided the necessary information for making sure that CTV won’t get more money from me if I don’t renew. This is a sad state of affairs.

Why? You showed both last year
I was looking forward to watching P-N in the morning and then checking out the T-A highlights later in the day. Take an example from Eurosport, they are showing both races, T-A right after P-N as-live. That would be sweet but thanks for the notice at least, and the streams have been great for P-N so far, but you better have the Giro, you do have the Giro confirmed right?

Giro
I actually got an e-mail response from them about 2 weeks ago saying that they did not yet have rights to the Giro.

Their "Race Calendar" doesn't show TBC next to any of the Giro entries...
… in fact, they have an entire subscription package just for the Giro (for non-North America suckers customers)

No TBC on that
actually there wasn’t a TBC on T-A either. They better not pull any bull shit and say that they are not showing the Giro because they want to put full attention on the Volta Catalyuna or some crap.

here's the exchange
Me:
I am wondering whether cycling.tv is ensured the rights to broadcast the
> Giro and Milan San Remo in North America. There was some speculation that
> NBC Universal was going to get the rights, and I don’t want to pay for the
> gold package unless I can be certain to get the Giro coverage as well as
> Milan San Remo. Does Cycling.tv have the rights to these races locked up?
> In the event that either of these events won’t be available, will it be
> possible to procure a refund for the difference between the gold NA package
> and the Silver package?
>
Them:
Dear Subscriber,
We have not secured the rights for these events as of yet. Please check back
with this site as we are regularly updating the Race Calendar.

Well that sounds super
so I now have no confidence that they will carry the race and I have the Gold NA package. That Calender is never updated until the day before a race that they pull, for example T-A. It will be soooooooooooo awesome when on May 8th I find out that CTV will not be showing the Giro, yeah that will be fun.

No it will be
because you’ll be watching it on RAI like the rest of us. Just think of it – thrilling italian commentary; dynamically rolled rrrrrs; Pavel Brutt getting an extra consonant in his surname; the stream jamming up for the final 10 minutes of every single stage. Anyway if it does come to pass I hope you get your money back and then some. Charge an administration fee to process their refund or something.

Where is there a problem? I don't see it.
Cycling.TV should place a link for Tirreno-Adriatico and place a link for Paris-Nice. People can watch one or the other… or, heaven forbid, watch them simultaneously.
From the note I received via email (same as above), I don’t see anything resembling “rights weren’t secured” or “broadcast restrictions prevent”, etc. So… unfortunately, it would appear to be a technical limitation… again…
I’ve been wondering what “COVERAGE TBC” meant on the Cycling.TV race calendar. Apparently it means “To Be Canceled”.
I agree wholeheartedly with Jimbo now: Cycling.TV should just give up. Cash in the chips and kill the service. Let someone else have a go at it.

The way you say it it seems so simple
and I’m pretty certain it is. I’ seem to remember c.tv being able to stream two races at once in the past . . . and I’m absolutely certain they’ve managed to archive one race as VOD and show the other live. This announcement is just complete BS. For our benefit my arse.

Recommendation
Cycling.TV should state more prominently on its website that races for which rights have not been secured are just that. Sounds like the site suggests they are in (until they are out), whereas in reality until you have a contract, you don’t have the races.

I specifically asked Rebecca if they could do just that
(I even graciously offered her space to do it on your website in case theirs couldn’t handle it)
The idea has been passed on to the ptb and she will get back to us. Don’t hold your breath.

This is bullshit
and I think we all know it.
The reason cycling.tv is not showing Tirreno-Adriatico is that they didn’t want to pay for it.
The reason they didn’t announce this until the last minute is that they wanted to get as many people as possible to pay for a subscription, thinking they would get Tirreno-Adriatico coverage, before revealing the truth they’ve known all along, which is that they didn’t have the rights to show the race.
If they announced on their website the list of races to which they have actually secured rights, the advertising value of the longer, false list that they use to solicit subscription payments would be lost.

come on...
just admit you guys didnt want to pay for it or didnt have the capacity to run them both at the same time… How the hell can you say its in the customer’s best interest to not provide the service they payed for?

who here is, or is married to, or has pull with,
the right sort of lawyer?
I didn’t renew CTV this year, so I’m flush to the tune of $100, and will toss in $50 of that if anyone IS serious about a lawsuit. Gotta be at discount rates, though.
