Paris-Nice Stage 8... LIVE!

Paris-nice-live_mediumI am through trying to predict what will come next in this race. Luis Leon Sanchez is one of several Caisse d'Epargne riders suddenly grabbing the sport by the throat, and the traditional Paris-Nice finale, while hilly, is not usually a place to make up gobs of time. So it only stands to reason that nothing much will happen today. And every time I say that, the race detonates... The lesson, as always, is not to listen to me.

I'm not even the slightliest bit angry anymore...

I spoke with LLSG at the TdU this year. He was a very approachable and humble sort of guy. Most of the public’s interest was with Perreiro and Luis would always have a moment both pre and post race for his fans…of which i am certainly one. Before the TdU classic I asked him his goals for the year…he said ‘to show that cyclists have big hearts, Paris-Nice and the Vuelta’ . He finished fifth in Paris-Nice last year, winning stage 7, third in 2007 winning stage 6 and was the best kiddie at P-N 2006….fine credentials indeed.
I think what Lyne and myself were trying to say post stage 7 this morning was that often it is easy to criticise the champions when they fail, as Bert obviously did. But without LLSG’s hunger for this mornings win the race may have been very different and his preperative mistake never revealed. Cyclists do indeed, have big hearts.

There will still be some surprises today. It’s hard one. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Gallopin reminds Bert to eat today.
