Tirreno-Adriatico, Stage 5 ITT...LIVE!

Italy_medium My hunch from last year's results is that this course favors climbers more than most time trials, but is still reasonably favorable to the traditional chronomen. It's also March, not July. So the best way to handicap this race is to pick out guys who did well on Montelupone (on-form climbers) who are known to run well against the watch. That'd be Lovkvist, Nibali, Hesjedal, Kloden, Basso and Gerdemann, in roughly that order.

But it's March, so who knows. In any case, this stage should decide the overall, so enjoy!

Oh, and where to watch: GazzettaTV!

Start order for time trial

Looking forward to some Sunday Cycling :-)

Linus looking very good with this TT coming up, was it eighth last time round with a dodgy leg?

If no Milram win then I’ll go for Basso and a bunch of vds points! :-)

Fair warning in advance

I’m incredibly psyched for this stage, bordering on jittery.

Should Klöden weasel his way past Lövkvist today using sneaky, underhanded, treacherous tricks such as “superior TT-skills” there will be a steady stream of invectives coming from this computer.

"Sausagesucking, sauerkrautsmelling son of a schweinhund " is a frase that could well come into play for instance.

Can we get this race going already?

PS: Oh and Basso better lay low too or he’ll get his as well.

apparently it was built as an arena for some strange Italian ball game that was incredibly popular for 500 years or so, roughly until they discovered football. Pallone con Bracciale, they call it. I know, I am not perfect ;)

but Jens had some unkind words about my no.3 (“Italians can’t TT”).

Didn't think he could TT without the Fat One yelling Venga! at him

Did your favourite rider just win Montepaschi Strade Bianch Eroica Toscana? OK then.

Yes

Contador only got the most VDS points in Paris-Nice. I’m so sad. ;)

I'm sure winning VDS points is right up there as one of Johan's top priorities

right along with:

- getting better DVD’s for the teambus
- fixing hotelrooms with a view at the Tour of Poland
- making sure kasach riders get an opportunity to race at the highest level

Johan asks me everyday what he should target!

I usually say, “Beat all Swedes into submission. They like the beatings.”

Anybody have Geraint Thomas?

Apparently, he crashed out of the TT today, breaking his nose and the ischiopubic bone in his groin. Out for at least 20 days, will miss MSR and Flanders. More here.

just saw that

ouch :-( . Particularly “Thomas crashed on a right hand corner early in the time trial and went over the guardrail. His bike ended up in a tree and he went down a banking” – sounds like he’s lucky his injuries weren’t more serious. and frustrating for him that he had the 2nd fastest time at the first split before crashing … not that it sounds like anyone watching via an RAI feed would have known because he isn’t Italian ;-) (ie he wouldn’t have been shown on TV).

l'ouch

or should i say that in Italian?

I have him – he’s flying the Welsh flag on my team, or will be when he gets back on the bike. that musta hurt, poor guy!

You may very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

Can it be Feb 25 already?
A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
