yeah my compliments on the headline as well

I have a buddy in NOLA, apparently coffee shops there have started selling “heckuva job” brownies, how’s that for gallows humour

That's too funny.

I’ll bet they are very expensive! I do hope they use the profits to move to someplace, anyplace, which is not below sea level in a hurricane zone. This is why I never thought it a good idea to build a house inside the rim of Mt St Helens Volcano, even though heating would be free.

Go, Ben!

Now, just get on the podium of a race that earns me points.

don't forget the Vicious Angel!

not exactly cycling-related maybe but still awesome. Well maybe for l’enfer du nord, this guy should win at least one P-R just for his name

agreed

plus he’s young and he’s got talent and he’s a Brit!

You may very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

you mean this one doesn't count either?

WTF? maybe I should have looked at the schedule to see which races are on the VDS calendar

Hmmm, that is an unfortunate picture of Swift

you make me wish

i had stuck to the “young and restless” theme in my selections this year, as i did with the Vuelta last fall. i’m all for the young talent moving up!

Must say, Chavanel looks pretty good in the FdJ kit!!

Am I mistaken...

or am I the only one with Brown on my VDS team?

You're not alone.

Brownie has always struck me as someone yet to live up to his potential, and for 1 point, well hard to go past.

The fact that he is on Rabobank doesn’t hurt either, means that at some point in time in each race he’s going to have team mates driving the front. Hopefully it is at the right point!

by muk on Mar 18, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I've got him too

I thought he was worth a shot at 1 point. He seems to be working out.

He's on 42 teams, so a lot of folks got their money's worth there.

emphasizing...

that two Murcia stages aren’t worth much, and his TdU and Nokere Koerse wins didn’t score VDS points. The fact that I missed taking him in no way motivated this comment…

But he's already earned out--80 returned for one point spent.

Brown can kick back and enjoy the rest of the season now—or, if he chooses, fill in a few points for guys who aren’t pulling their weight.

VDS aside

I like that Rabobank is not yet subjecting him to try and beat the A-list sprinters. Let him handle the Henderson’s and Haedo’s and Swift’s and Chavanel’s. They are in his league. Let him go to C&L to get Freire up to speed. Ster Electrotoer, 4 days of Dunkirk, etc.

Giro

Rabo seemed to expect quite a lot from him at last year’s Giro. And Breukink in his erm, frank, style, was very critical of Brown’s performance last year.

Hard to know what they expect, though this win should help him with team management.

by Jen See on Mar 19, 2009 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I remember that hyper critical Breukink last year.

And Brownie’s season went down the tubes after that. Sems like they are tryiong a different tack this year, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see Browne at the Giro again.

by ursula on Mar 19, 2009 10:22 PM EDT up reply actions

So pleased for Swift!

He’s been talked about as a talent over here for so long
