Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

We have a rivalry!!!

Well, at least a one way rivalry.

Millar crashed during the final stage of the race, just as Alberto Contador (Astana) attacked at the foot of the col de la Porte. "It was a stupid crash. Christian [Vande Velde] and I were positioning ourselves near the front of the field and Van den Broeck panicked and came screaming up the left side. As he did his skewer jammed into my wheel and catapulted me through the air. Due to irresponsible riding and a lack of respect he's taken me out. It's fair to say that he's not my favourite rider at the moment."

Lack of respect! Jurgenhad better start keepin it real or else he's gonna have CVV chasing him down in breaks a la Armstrong-Simeon.

I’m going to chase down the next Astana jersey wearer I see on the bike path, to show him how much respect I deserve.

and if I'm feeling really on form

I might make him spill his machiatto. Don’t mess with me, man.

No, not the macchiato

That’s totally uncalled for, show some decency.

+1!

You may very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

Just call out “Kazakhstan number one!!” to confuse him/her.

I am going out today

to get an Astana jersey just in hopes that we cross paths.

(Okay, not really. I’m not wasting my money on shiny, noisy crap. But if you see me, g’head and throw down, just for kicks.)

Man oh man!

Maybe a second one in the making

Piti re Lulu:

I have been saying for a few years that Luis León is capable of great performances. [But] I think it is still necessary to let him mature and not to put too much pressure on him. This is not the time for comparisons. Don’t compare him to Induráin or to me, for that matter; everyone is different.

That’s right. Piti is leader, Lulu is domestique who is permitted to win PN…to keep moral up. But don’t go giving him any ideas ya hear!

Don't compare him to me?

I don’t think anyone ever insinuated LuLu was a blood doper.

Hopefully

Van den Broeck won’t ruin this by apologizing.

Actually, I think Millar is someone I would not want pissed at me...

…I think we’ve all seen enough examples of his temper, no?

It would be entertaining to see him throw somebody else's bike, though.

Or he could just throw Fränk Schleck at someone...

…which would immediately cause them to crash, of course.

by Ed K on Mar 20, 2009 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Q: Why did dude crash?

A: Dunno, Maybe someone through a Schleck at him?

I like it.

I wonder if this will be an event at Saxo survival camp next year...

The Schleck toss.

Since they have two of them, they can even make it a head to head elimination type competition.

I do believe

we’ve got a related graphic somewhere around here . . .

here's the juicy rivalry you're looking for

I just posted this on the MSR post-race thread…apologies if someone else has already posted it. It’s from VeloNews:

Q: Some sprinters said you couldn’t get over the climbs?

MC: Absolutely, I knew what they were saying after Tirreno. Tom Boonen said I was getting dropped on all the climbs. If you count the times I got dropped in Tirreno, it was one time, no other times. I knew I had to play it easy in Tireno, because I knew I had good form and a good team. One of the sweetest things today was seeing Tom Boonen go past me backwards on the climbs.

by plinytheelder on Mar 21, 2009 1:51 PM EDT reply actions

Well yes, but in Sui's words...

…is it still a rivalry when one of them keeps getting beaten like a rented mule?

by Ed K on Mar 21, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

haw

Come now, surely Boonen’s not at the mule stage of his career yet. Though I do often see him grinnin’ like a mule eatin’ garlic!

by plinytheelder on Mar 21, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I do believe we're going to see very shortly where Tommeke is...

MSR ultimately is a ‘would be nice’ race for him. Now it gets serious.

by Ed K on Mar 21, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Tommeke will be back

and I’m looking forward to it :-)

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
