As reprted in today's live thread, Taylor Phinney posted a 4:15 individual pursuit and is now in the gold medal round later today, as reported in the CA live thread. His competitor will be an Australian named Jack Bobridge, who posted a time 2 seconds slower.

As a comparison, Wiggo won gold in Beijing last summer by posting two 4:16s within a couple of hours of each other.

Good luck Taylor.

Update! Not only reaches for rainbow, but wins it!

Universal Sports

doesn’t even have the decency to air it later tonight in the U.S.

No video for me until the weekend . . .

looks very happy, no wonder.

Our commentator says he will brake Boardmans record…

Taylor:
“I had a really good race in Mex, that helped. It’s good. Tired now.
Great to lead the new generation. Very good, I’m excited”

From the 1996 pictures

Boardman’s record was set in the superman position on a bike with aero canards sticking sideways from the fork. He also set the athelete’s hour record that year.

So it looks like 4:11 might be a tall order, even from a kid who’s hitting 4:15 at the tender age of nineteen. We’ll see.

yep, l know.

We’ll see, our commentator at least thinks he can do it

Congrats Taylor!

Enjoy your rainbow jersey.

But remember to transition to the road in time to start racing those Northern Classics in a couple of seasons.

Colorado and Deutschland in the house mother fuckers!

sorry, I’ve been dying to say that for years now.

watch for Bobridge in the future though

he’s not just “an Australian”, he’s their U23 RR and TT champ this year … remember him in a brief breakaway with Lance at the TDU in January?

by guidemd on Mar 26, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

interesting

How old is he right now?

by Jen See on Mar 26, 2009 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

sorry...

meant 19 when he won in January, looks like will be 20 in July. The young’uns are taking over… he broke Brad McGee’s 10+ year old Australian pursuit record earlier this year as well I think.

Impressive!

Who’s he riding for now? Staying U23 for a bit, I’m guessing?

by Jen See on Mar 26, 2009 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

cool, thanks

I can always look these things up, but man, I get tired of the database sites. Much nicer to just chat :-)

Bobridge and Phinney could be seeing a lot of each other in the years to come

Similar profiles. Both seem to be super-cycling-studs in the making.

Could be interesting to look back on this year in 3 or 5 and compare their career paths…
