from Cycling Weekly:
We’re scrabbling through our record books but we think that Nimke’s time has broken Sir Chris Hoy’s sea-level world record, which was set in Athens in 2004.

Someone needs to make Phinney start a road program in a couple years

I’d hate him to go Bos and lose some valuable years of experience at Flanders.

I love track

but he’s now achieved half of the everlasting glory one can achieve on it. And he’s too young for the hour record. So he should definitely be racing the U23 Flanders and Roubaix next year.

I'm fairly sure he's racing U23 Flanders and Roubaix *this year*

Article I read yesterday said he was staying in Europe for those.

From Cycling Weekly:
Mulder set off very fast and was inside Nimke after 250m. Still faster after 500m, but then was outside Nimke and quickly faded away. The pressure of trying to beat Nimke’s time lured many riders into setting out too fast at a pace they could not sustain.

Nimke:

“After 2003 when I won the worlds, I was asked if I retire, no, I continued to work hard”

He was way above the rest today, impressive.

His legs look MASSIVE, almost bigger than Sir Hoy’s!

Taylor getting loud cheers, looks pretty happy

Nimke broke the record

Confirmation that Nimke’s time was a new sea-level world record, and a little nugget of information that explains why everyone seemed to fade against his time.

by Bruce Suomi on Mar 27, 2009 3:59 PM EDT reply actions

cont...

Nimke rode a bigger gear than is conventional and started out slow but finished very fast. He was 12th fastest after lap one, sixth fastest after lap two and in the lead by three-quarter distance.

Yes, please keep us posted on the Track stuff if you know about it. It’s very much appreciated.

Huge thanks for the chatter Bruce!

I am going to be at a race all day tomorrow so I hope you guys can chatter about tomorrow too. I’m very tiffed that it seems CTV had it on the list and when I went to look at on demand the other night there was nothing. So not happy with that.

I’m hoping that Colby and Daniel can get top 5 in the Madison. I think that would be a really good finish for them. :-) They’re up against pretty much a similar group that they had been racing in the last few 6 days they did. Good Luck to them!!!!

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
