so what’s your combined total of PV & PR?

by rbjhan on Apr 12, 2009 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions

1145

for the pair, for me.

1390 for me for the pair

I really don’t have a cobbles team, but Boonen winning did a lot for me. Plus having both HH and Quinz helped. Basically everyone I had in PR scored in the top 10 (I don’t think I had any other riders in today’s race).

It's pretty much only Boonen though

so I don’t know if that counts as a “team” for cobbles. I do also have HH, though I didn’t expect him to do this well when I picked him

by Le Comte on Apr 12, 2009 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm

the rest of my “cobbles” team was Ciolek, Gasparotto and Svein Tuft. Did you know that cobbles is almost an anagram of bollocks?

805.

For a while there it was looking even better than that, but then lady luck and maybe a touch of fate stepped in…

I learned two things from today’s race:

1) Boonen is destined to win this race, again and again and again
2) Until he changes his strategy Pozzato is destined to finish behind Boonen, again and again and again.

Fun facts!

Cancellara is now the only 25-pointer who hasn’t scored a single point.

Heinrich Haussler’s VDS point total is now higher than the yearly cost of his hair gel (in Euros).

Bob Stapleton and Patrick Lefevre struck a deal at the beginning of the season to motivate their riders. “Okay, first get Tommeke to say that Cav can’t make it over hills, then I’ll get Cav to call Tom old…” Tom now leads Cavendish by over 400 points—but just wait for the green jersey battle…

Apparently, Spanish stage races produce actual points. Must inform the team…

Cance is starting to look liks a VDS bust this year

by this time last year I’m sure he had round about a thousand points. Most of what he scored for the year, in fact.

I'm holding faith for him in some future races. :-)

by nikki on Apr 12, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I expect he'll do ok

just that it doesn’t seem likely he can make the return on investment, so to speak. But he will garner some points in the future. For example, if he doesn’t win the stage in Monaco to kick off Le Tour, I would consider it a big upset. This assumes no further sickness or injuries, of course.

by Le Comte on Apr 12, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Sooo...looking ahead...

The enigmatic Rund um Köln—no startlist, no apparent coverage—is tomorrow. If a race falls on a Monday and no one sees or hears it, does it happen?

Wednesday: Scheldeprijs, without the defending champ, then the Ardennes begin next Sunday with Amstel Gold (pretty obvious what we’re supposed to drink for that one). And we’re less than a month away from the Giro—how did that happen?

Paris-Roubaix is over, but there’s still so much to look forward to.

Hmm.

There have been 19 races scored in VDS this year: 8 in Belgium, 5 in Spain, and 3 each in Italy and France. So far, my team has averaged 463.33 points in each race in Italy; 185 in Belgium, 162.5 in France, and 7 in Spain. Yeah, 7.

The only possible conclusion is that there is something dreadfully wrong with Spain. That, and Italy makes my riders very happy (despite having no Italian riders on the team).

Paella? Sangria? Siestas? Having more than one Spanish rider on the team? I must know!

by majope on Apr 12, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions

How about

Actually having riders who race in Spain? I mean my cobbles lineup kills me (even with HH) but your Spain lineup is pants. Maybe Large Bomb will do something in the Vuelta or Van Avermaet will duplicate last year there. I’ll admit that Lovkvist should have done more than he did last week. That was a puzzle. And Dekker: you and me girl. We both got took unless he grows up before next Sunday.

But back to Spain- you don’t have hilly stage racers/Ardennes guys so you can’t be really surprised..Rui Costa I guess ain’t the Next Big Thing. (I have him too.) . Oh and you’ll fade post-Ardennes I think.

by ursula on Apr 12, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Lovkvist

I wonder if maybe he should have skipped Pais Vasco. Perhaps if Kirchen had been healthy enough he would have been there instead of the Swede? At any rate I say Lovkvist needs a rest to get ready for his next part of the season. He was so good in Italy.

Last year Lovkvist had scored 25% of his total points by now (220 of 865). He’s on 355 so he’s improved on that. The Big Question that I wonder about Lovkvist is where is he gonna recoup those 385 Deutschland points from last year.

by ursula on Apr 12, 2009 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Dekker. Third in both Pais Vasco and CyL last year...

so I thought I had someone who could race in Spain. And I did think the hills might suit Lovkvist, Schleck jr. and Gerdemann. Ah, well. I didn’t really think about where people would get me points when I put the team together, just how many. And with luck, they’ll do all right.

might help

if you actually pick some Spanish riders??

by rbjhan on Apr 13, 2009 12:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Last year Lövkvist were even worse in Pais Vasco

But I think he got sick after MSR last year. He had crappy Tour of Georgia as well tho. Then he didn’t race until Catalunya.

I don’t know what races he will be doing before the Giro, but I think it’s somewhere along the lines of LBL and Tour of Romandy. So I’m not sure what he aimed at in Pais Vasco.

Oh my, I've just fallen in love with Roger De Vlaeminck's sideburns.

by TheFigurehead on Apr 12, 2009 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

He's never done well in PV for whatever reason

Ardennes is his definite next goal. I’ve only heard mention LBL but I’m guessing he will be doing Fleche too after the finishes he did in Eroica and on Montelupone. In the Giro he was to support Kirchen but I don’t know if that has changed.

by Jens on Apr 12, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Then there's young Andy Schleck

The good news about having hiom on your team is that he’s actually 30 points ahead of last year’s pace. Yes, at this point of the season he’d scored a zero points, The bad news is that lingering injury. I see he DNF’d at KP today. You’ll want him to score a few points in the Ardennes.

Lovkvist in the Giro- I see Rogers is tentatively there along with Lovkvist. Perhaps that is set to change and they are waiting on Kirchen’s full recovery?

by ursula on Apr 12, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Rogers could be a dangerman in the Giro

He has looked pretty decent in PV (in the resultlists anyway) plu he’ll be flying a bit under the radar. Don’t be an idiot Michael by focusing solely on the Tour.

by Jens on Apr 12, 2009 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Hear hear

I seriously hope that Dodgers has learned his lesson about focusing on only race, and spreads himself around this year. The guy has an engine and to date we’ve only caught glimpses of his potential.
