Decline in Registered Pro Riders?
Todays Velonews has an interesting little blurb. It indicates an approximate 40% drop in registered pro riders over last two years. What would explain this trend? Could it be the slow disappearance of organizations willing and able to sponsor pro outfits?? Fewer spot available on pro rosters? The upturn on doping enforcement? The increased cost involved in the entire realm of professional cycling? Perhaps it's a decline of grass roots opportunities. Maybe it's the X-Box, fast-food, instant gratification environment the youth of today seem to inhabit. What ever the root cause this does not seem to be a positive trend in our favorite pastime.

Pro and Conti Teams only
The numbers were for Pro and Continental level teams only. That means it has nothing to do with the number of riders who want to be there and everything to do with the number of sponsors who want to pay them. I can’t remember any of the big name teams finding noone to fill out their rosters lately. The supply is there. The opportunities are down. Look at Astana, even.
I would worry more about Wii than Xbox but neither create rabid PacMan addicts.

I was mostly interested in the trend myself and went fishing for opinions
The rest was basically word fill…

Junior-age licenses is what we need to keep an eye on.
