Dekker also 'patient' by Matschiner

Radsport news/ Focus reports Dekker and Boogerd were also a 'patient' of the former manager of Kohl, Matschiner. The famous manager of Kohl. Belgian commentators said he, Matschiner,is in prison now. Has nothing to do with this case. Maybe Kohl's case?

Dekker and Boogerd reported to have use blooddoping blood tranfusions. They got their tranfusions in Linz and Lirzkirchen..

Questions:

  • Is there any link with the dismissal of Dekker by Rabo previous year?
  • A other german tv channel reported a dopingcase, also with Rabo included previous year.. Is there a link to that case?

Sorry I can't read Dutch

So are these substantiated allegations? Guilt by association? Rumors? Is there any physical evidence? Who says Dekker and Boogerd used blood doping? Is this doctor, Matschiner, involved with the Dutch riders or not? Can you say perhaps a bit more?

The case isn't also very clear..

The sportwereld, their source Focus, says That Matschiner has confessed, after admitting he doped Kohl, he now als admitted he doped Dekker and Boogerd.

Last years story

reported in Cyclingnews, second story from bottom

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2008/feb08/feb18news2

It was later retracted and apologized for by ARD, following threats of legal action from the german ski federation, so treat it with appropriate scepticism

I remember that

If this is true and the doctor keeps singing more Rabo names than this will devastate destroy Rabobank.

by ursula on Apr 19, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

What's cruel of this all is that Jan Raas, who worked for Rabo as DS until 2003 stated this this week (But now I know he worked there until 2003 the relevance is probably gone)

"It’s difficult to guide young Dutch cyclists to the top but the real huge talents aren’t born every year.. Particulair not in such a small country as the Netherlands. Dissapoing resuls are their already a couple of years but a reason for that is because teams support their cyclist more profesional (read: with more risk) As Rabobank that increase your chance to deliver great performances. We( the bank and I) didn;t absolutely want to go further than the agreed limit of the medical guidance. We approched many great cyclist last years but many refused when they understood their was a strict anti doping policy by Rabobank.." Jan Raas..

Translation is by me.. So there can be some mistakes in it

This is a bit complicated, best to wait a day or two to get more details

Matschiner isn’t a doctor he is the former manager to Kohl and Rasmussen, triathlete Lisa Hutthaler and unnamed others.

The possible link here to the old story is the fact that the alleged centre of that dopingring was the Humanplasma clinic and Kohl has admitted to recieving bloodtransfusions there. The investigation of Humanplasma was formally closed just prior to the arrests of Matschiner and the former biathlon-coach Meyer that was the starting point of this latest mess. I think it’s safe to say more will come in the coming weeks since Matschiner has given up the location of the centrifuge that Kohl was part-owner too and probably plenty of names as well.

Moreover, it is my opinion that Alejandro Valverde is an asshole who should not be allowed to compete in bikeraces right now.

Okay.

Thanks for the perspective.

by ursula on Apr 19, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Part owner of a centrifuge?

hidden in a secret location? You couldn’t make some of this stuff up. Now all I need to hear is that to reach the centrifuge you go down in the sewers and across some underground rivers, just like in The Third Man

As the only confessed musician here

you get to play the zither. Unless of course you’d rather be Alida Valli, walking straight down the street and past Kohl without as much as a glance towards him.

by Monty. on Apr 20, 2009 5:51 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm sorry , the theme music will be played by Bernie Kohl on a banjo

he has the teeth for it.

Moreover, it is my opinion that Alejandro Valverde is an asshole who should not be allowed to compete in bikeraces right now.

But can he do the proper Lancastrian

Dang!

by Jens on Apr 20, 2009 6:19 AM EDT up reply actions

Now guess what music I will have going round and round in my head all afternoon?!

I’d be quite happy to walk past Kohl without even glancing at him…I think I’d be better at that than playing a zither!

by Albertina on Apr 20, 2009 9:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Well the centrifuge was in Budapest

so that gives it a certain eastern europe coldwar feel i suppose.

Moreover, it is my opinion that Alejandro Valverde is an asshole who should not be allowed to compete in bikeraces right now.

was there a trenchcoat, too? And a big black hat.

Dekker link is a rumor from a newsmagazine, but the rest is public / known. Translation:

the translations

Cyclist Bernard Kohl, who for years was mangaged by Matschiner, stated at a press conference that since he’s been doping under Matschiner since 2005. “I got EPO, growth hormones, insulin and testosterone from him,” says the winner of the polka dot jersey in the last Tour de France. “And he helped me do blood transfusions.” The Austrian is currently under a 2 year suspension. He paid his manager has 50,000 euros for doping.

VIENNA – The Vienna court is holding sportmanager Stefan Matschiner in custody for four weeks. Matschiner, former manager of the riders Bernhard Kohl and Michael Rasmussen, is suspected to have helped athletes procure banned stimulants.

According to the Austrian press agency APA, they are holding him because they fear that otherwise suspect evidence would disappear and he would continue illegal activities.

The 31-year-old suspect in the past also worked with the Dutch athlete Simon Vroemen. Matschiner was discredited after allegations of triathletes Lisa Hütthaler, followed by a statement from cyclist Kohl when he was caught using an EPO variant. Matschiner will be incarcerated at least until May 18.

And the focus story is reported to say that Matschiner previously admitted to Kohl, and is now naming other names (“Volgens Focus noemde hij nu dus ook andere namen.”) They mention that Dekker was dropped from Rabo after doping rumors. There is no direct quote from Matschiner about Dekker and Boogerd. But unless he denies it, this goes beyond the random level of rumor-buzz.

Besides, Boogerd has admitted doping in the past, right? This isn’t news. Dekker was suspicious enough to be dropped by his team (and he started to ride crappy around the time it was made public that CERA was detectable). Anyone who’s massively surprised that this could be true isn’t paying much attention, IMHO.

Boogerd never admitted in so many words

but did say something along the lines of: everybody should draw a line somewhere, at some point you say this is not for me, I have a clear conscience that I never cheated, I never begrudged VDB his win in LBL because I had my own limits and he did not test positive, et cetera. Probably means he didn’t do, or much, EPO but did stretch the meaning of ‘medical preparation.’

by tedvdw on Apr 19, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

in response

to VDB’s recent allegation that all of the top 10 or podium or whatever of LBL the year he won it were just as doped as he was, Boogerd denied having doped.

I’m a bit too lazy to look it up, but that little exchange was within the last couple of months.

Conclusion: Boogie has definitely not joined the clearly confessed ex-dopers club.

by R Mc on Apr 19, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought he denied having doped THEN (as opposed to some other time).

Or “real doping” (read EPO? or blood doping?) as opposed to something that he felt was not doping (this makes me think of the “testosterone helps me heal faster” or “HGH makes me feel younger” school of rationalization). I feel he’s come as close to admitting some modest level of doping as he thinks he can manage, without facing legal repercussions. That feeling is indeed based on intangibles like tone and facial expressions.

I'm tranquilo too!

Last winter I thought to myself that I should take a 12 point handicap in VDS because I’m so awesome; just win the thing using only 1328 points.

He has had his portion of BS and crashes in the last year. It is time to draw attention while on the bike again.
