Driedaagse de Panne Stage 3 LIVE!

Time to finish this one off. One more sprint, then the decisive time trial. Pozzato is looking awfully good here, and I'm not referring to his hair. Enjoy!

It looks like either

Willems will hold on by a very slim margin

or…

Poosthuma will come from behind and take it seeing as the 6 ahead of him aren’t much in the way of time trialists and Pozzato will probably just be saving for Sunday.

GC

1 Frederik Willems (Bel) Liquigas
2 Filippo Pozzato (Ita) Katusha 0.29
3 Borut Bozic (Slo) Vacansoleil 0.45
4 Steve Chainel (Fra) Bbox Bouygues Telecom 0.47
5 Mauro Finetto (Ita) CSF Group-Navigare 0.49
6 Martyn Maaskant (Ned) Garmin-Slipstream 0.51
7 Joost Posthuma (Ned) Rabobank 0.51

I’ve looked at Willems TT ability at CQ, I don’t think he was sandbagging. But it’s only 14k, and I don’t thinnk that Pippo will be a threat. Posthuma is a nice time trialist, but 51 seconds might be too much.

Why did Van Avermaet drop out?

Dagnabit, he was third in the overall, and my only shot at GC points. Better have a good excuse, or he’s going to San Quentin with Rock Racing.

Give him a little time.

That’s how Boardman started. They share a similar track background and Boardman went on to be okay over longer distances. Especially those that lasted about an hour.

If you ever get a chance to watch video of his “classic” hour record, where he just beat Eddie’s distance, watch it. Inspirational.

If I had a link I’d post it, but I can’t remember where I put it.

Yeah

He needed a big headwind to make up that kind of time. Or an epic fail by Willems

That is an interesting development for the next month.

VDS wise

I have Quinziato, so that gets me 80.

by Le Comte on Apr 2, 2009 10:54 AM EDT reply actions

I have Hoste and Finetto

Only 40 points but for both riders those are the first points of the season. Getting rid of the hateful zero might be an important stimulance.

i got

quinz and hoste….both seem to bee wastes this year

by Vlaanderen90 on Apr 2, 2009 10:55 AM EDT reply actions

To be fair

Quinz didn’t score last year until this race… though he did get more points in it last year. We’ll see…

by Le Comte on Apr 2, 2009 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions

True

but I can’t defend Hoste at all…hopefully it changes a bit coming up

by Vlaanderen90 on Apr 2, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Leezer

He certainly shows character. Lead out man and ITT-er? Impressive

by Lopex on Apr 2, 2009 10:55 AM EDT reply actions

Leezer

is going to be a huge talent for Rabo. He can sprint and short ITT…very good for the short stage races.

VDS for final only (not total race)

Willems 150

If he doesn't come throug htere it will be a long year for him -

He thinks his DS is tough on him ? Hell hath no fury like that of a VDS scorned!

I Might

just fire him. it would be the same as a season full of blanks at this point.

So a 110 point race thanks to Cav's contributions

Nice from Leezer

This compensates the missing points from Pozzato …

by FrankV on Apr 2, 2009 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Hoste

Without his bike change he would have been 3rd or 4th I guess. Those Lotto geezers sure are unlucky this year. They are in the corner were the punches fall (I love to tranlate Dutch saying literally).

by Lopex on Apr 2, 2009 11:00 AM EDT reply actions

220 for me

100 for Leezer
40 for Pozzato
2×40 for Cavendish

It's very frustrating

To see good results by underperformers that I had on my VDS squad last year … Posthuma, Wegmann, etc.

Jens Voigt doesn’t know where you live, but he knows exactly where you will die.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
