Caduta! Pozzato Crashes Out of De Panne Lead

Earlier this morning Filippo Pozzato, the hot semi-favorite for Sunday's Tour of Flanders and then-leader of the Driedaagse de Panne overall, went down in a crash 3km from the finish in today's circuit race around De Panne. As a result, he lost his overall lead and as promised did not compete in the closing time trial, preferring to rest for Sunday. This story is a few hours old, and all reports so far (CN, Gazzetta) are that he suffered no real injuries. However, given his importance to de Ronde, and vice versa, I wanted to open a post for when updates come in. Any cuts or deep bruises could compromise his form for Sunday, whereas a little road rash presumably won't matter. If this post disappears it's because this winds up being a non-story. Stay tuned, or keep us informed if you hear anything.

“I am calm. Sunday is the important day,” said Pozzato, who fell three kilometres from the neutral zone.

Pozzato sustained no major injuries, but decided to skip the afternoon’s time trial.

He did at least finish

at 49 seconds back. I take that to be a good sign.
On the other hand, I know these guys don’t like to tip their hands regarding injuries, especially right now.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

On the delayed live feed

I saw him driving the second group after the peloton split. He should be ok. I didn’t see him on the ground. I don’t think he fell.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
