Team Columbia's Centenary Giro Lineup

Our own Tifosa, on assignment again to the Giro d'Italia, got a sneak preview of the Columbia-High Road Giro squadra when they sent around the invite to the pre-race pizza party. I am assuming that the nine riders she's invited to shmooze with will all make the start the next morning: Cropped_girbecco_medium

  1. Michael Barry
  2. Edvald Boasson Hagen
  3. Mark Cavendish
  4. Thomas Lovkvist
  5. Marco Pinotti
  6. Morris Possoni
  7. Mark Renshaw
  8. Michael Rogers
  9. Kanstantin Suitsou

If Cav Is Riding The Tour

Do you think he will finish the Giro? Kinda like last years tour trying to prepare for the Olympics? It seems like it would be awfully tough on Cav if he tried to finish both the Tour and the Giro, because we know he is going after the green jersey in the Tour.

by profgubler on Apr 21, 2009 7:27 PM EDT reply actions

IIRC

He probably won’t finish the Giro but will attempt to finish the Tour and go for the green jersey. I believe he has spoken about this, but my memory sucks.

You are right though

He’s said he’s only riding the Giro thru stage 9 or 10 (which one is the Milano Crit?).

Frankly it will be interesting to see who wins the Points at the Giro.

I will give them a stealthy chance at the Giro GC

IF Lovkvist or Rogers are serious and the team rallies around them. They should do well in the TTT which does help in the long run.

by ursula on Apr 21, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

I'd give Sivtsov a reasonable chance too

he might sneak ahead the way he nipped in and won the Tour of Cali last year.

Hey, I have Sivtsov on both my VDS teams, so I like the tune you’re singing.

I am kinda late on this thread (been busy with a sick child) but

I have Sivtsov so don’t get too excited. All my riders keep getting injured (Cancellara, Bennatti, F Schleck….) and I have determined I am bad luck.

Sometimes... that Girbecco he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes.

And, you know, the thing about Girbecco… he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn’t seem to be livin’… until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then… ah then… you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin’.

Scooby-Doo

Right, but only because he was sick

and because he loved her so much that he couldn’t risk getting her sick and jeopardizing her season. Now she is gone and clearly Dan is heartbroken. Sure, he hides it well behind all the foolishness and fun and games, but do you really think that someone with an intact heart could produce that photochopped Elmo-strong monstrosity? That right there is a cry for help…

Michael Barry

Good to see Michael in the Giro. He is always a class act, and I really wanted US Postal to get him on their TDF teams. He always did yeoman work for them at the Vuelta.

I had the privilege of meeting him at a book signing here in Durango a few years ago, Very gracious and humble, and a terrific writer to boot !
