My team is going backwards faster then Wegmann on the Huy

thanks to Wegmann going back so fast on the Huy. So not his finish but at least he’s gotten over that flu he had during AG. 105 for me, Gerrans is the only one keeping me from complete embarrassment. Were the hell are you Bert!!!!

In Chauncey we trust!

Is he riding anywhere

before the Dauphine Libere? I don’t believe so…

Here's to hoping

That he can’t be bothered to ride the Vuelta.

by Uncle Ted on Apr 22, 2009 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

+100 ;)

as one of the what, 10 teams? that don’t have Bert, would be happy for him to go to the beach during the Vuelta

by kimchi on Apr 22, 2009 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions

I have him

but, since everybody has him
it might be better for my team that he doesn’t do it.

by rbjhan on Apr 22, 2009 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

I figured that winning with Bert isn’t nearly as elegant, so I kicked him to the curb. If he doesn’t ride the Vuelta, then he gets solid but not crazy good points for his owners. If he does, any team without him probably won’t win.

by Uncle Ted on Apr 22, 2009 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Why wouldn't he go to the Vuelta

even if he wins the Tour? Admittedly, if he wins the Tour, he might be talked into riding for Levi (or Lance, if Lance can’t make the Giro and decides to go to the Vuelta). But what else is AC going to do after the Tour? I have a tough time believing he’ll say, ok, my season’s done…

by Le Comte on Apr 22, 2009 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Why would he do the Vuelta?

He’s said flat out that he only cares about the Tour and all of his preparation is aimed at that. So far, he hasn’t ruled out the Vuelta, but he skipped it the year he won the Tour—and if he wins again I just don’t see the incentive to put himself through another 3-week GT.

You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold

Alessandro Petacchi
Fabian Wegmann
Marcus Burghardt
Andreas Klier

Frederik Willems – no owners
Heinrich Haussler
Jeremy Hunt
Johan Van Summeren – are there two of thee guys?
Martin Elmiger
Matt Goss
Maxim Iglinsky
Ruben Plaza Molina
Serguei Ivanov
Simon Gerrans
Alexandr Kuschynski
Enrico Rossi
Frantisek Rabon
Graeme Brown
Jonathan Hivert
Julien El Fares – no owners
Kenny Van Hummel
Kevin Hulsmans
Mathew Hayman
Pieter Weening
Rein Taaramae
Tom Leezer
Xavier Tondo

So there are more than a few it would seem

Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland

by natbla on Apr 22, 2009 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

I’m kinda doubting 12000 will be enough to win. Though, maybe. The points are coming fast and furious, but as ursula pointed out, April is the most point-laden month of the season…

by Le Comte on Apr 22, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sure where the points will end up at the end of the season.

They are running 1000+ higher than last year at this time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the inflation will continue. Take Haussler, for instance—he’s on more than 80 teams and scored early and often, so much of the bump could be due just to him. Contador is on even more teams and is scoring faster than he did last year.

But while HH will continue to score something, his best points are probably behind him, and we don’t know where Contador might end up because he hasn’t confirmed whether he’s doing the Vuelta or not. So it’s still unclear to me where the VDS points ceiling will be.

You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold

by majope on Apr 22, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Good points

though we do have more races this year, right? So, all else being equal, I’d expect the scoring to go up. Though by how much, I’m not sure.

If you’re right (from the other thread) that AC won’t do the Vuelta, then certainly that would offset his early season scoring this year vis-a-vis last year. Probably more than offset it, in fact…

by Le Comte on Apr 22, 2009 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Van Impe, not Hulsmans

Two more without owners:
Kevyn Ista—100 (on 0 teams)
Johnny Hoogerland 80 (on 0 teams)

You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold

by majope on Apr 22, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Most of them are lowpointers

In order to win you need a 12+ pointer to score more than 80.

by Lopex on Apr 22, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

To hit a goal of 12,000 EVERY rider on your team has to return 80 for each point spent.

No matter what they cost. It takes longer for the guys who cost more to earn out, because they have to accumulate that many more points—nobody who cost more than 6 points has done it yet, but they will.

You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold

by majope on Apr 22, 2009 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Technically, not everybody

you only need to have your riders average 80 pps.

by Le Comte on Apr 22, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

And 12+ riders scoring more than 80 points really help in that department.

by Lopex on Apr 22, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely--average. Lopex seemed to be suggesting that you could do it

if only the more expensive guys produced.

You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold

by majope on Apr 22, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

It's quite hard to do that for all your 150 points

last year there were some very expensive riders who managed it, and lots of one and two pointers, but a pretty huge desert in between.

by Monty. on Apr 22, 2009 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm using 80 points due to several factors

1) I’m guestimating the added races are worth the 13 point increase over the 67 average for 12000 to win instead of 10K last year.

2) A lot more info about riders and VDS potential that meant people picked better so more will have higher numbers this year

c) 12000 seems very achievable at this point with ~35% of points awarded

d) I like 80 more than 75 as a reference point

This must be a record VDS one-day race

If you divide the total spoils by the total cost of the scorers.
The top 7 are all big studs costing at least 14 points. With a total of 139 they average only slightly below 20 points each. This is the VDS heavyweight classic. No pesky 2-pointers to sneak in and steal top positions here.
