Giro (minus Benna) Hottitude Thread
Dear readers, today the ladies of Podium Cafe are dressed in black. We are wailing in unquenchable misery. We have run out of tissues. Our over-used hankies are in the wash. We have red eyes and red noses. We are wondering how we will face the month of May. The uninitiated might question our mourning, for the Giro is nearly upon us, and what can be better than bikes, sun, mountains, fashion, wine and gnocchi? But today we heard a piece of news so distressing that our worlds stood still: Benna, that paragon of hottitude, is, baring a miracle, out of the Giro. We hope that our PdC group prayer sessions may result in this miracle, and yes majope, laying on of hands is in this case imperative. But we are not optimistic.
So, what are we to do? Shut ourselves away in our distress and wish it was June already? No! For there is more hottitude out there! We will find it! We will strive unceasingly until it is uncovered! We will overcome! A thorough examination of the start list, and the contents thereof, has been mooted. I will begin. Someone has to.
Now the startlist we have presently is not all that complete, but we will try. Please add more, and more!
I give you Signor Eros Capecchi. With hair gel like this he really should be at Leaky still, but he's gone off to Fuji-Servetto:
And of course, at Leaky, well, how could we forget?

Do I have a booboo on my butt?
I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!
Garzelli
How is it possible for that dude to be so bald and yet have such luscious eyelashes?
This is really quite mysterious.
I have always regretted that Crescenzo d’Amore is no longer riding. The name plus the hottitude was quite a remarkable combo.
Yes, the eyelashes are an enigma.
I wish mine were as luscious. You’d never need to remember to apply mascara in the morning!
Now our luxembourg riders

I notice a number of riders are going with the shorter shorts this year. Not complaining.
by ZoeRochelle on Apr 23, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions
nope!
Definitely no complaints here on that one :-)
Not really a fan of the shorts down to the knees look. Interferes with the viewing!
Perhaps the riders complained the longer ones made evening-out tanlines harder.

Do they want to even out their tan lines?
I thought tan lines were desirable? Or do I have a warped sense of style?
All change requires is one complaint from a disgruntled rider.

ha ha did you read what Mario said about Benna?
Cycle sport a couple of months ago? Very nice article.
Here are a few things...from Super Mario.
from Cycle Sport April 2009
His nickname is panther because his sprint is elegant and powerful. He is often compared to Boonen but Daniele is a better climber when he is on form and his sprint is much classier. Boonen stomps all over his bike while Bennati is a lot smoother without loosing power.
He wishes he was more aggressive and he said he certainly would NOT have let Cav come through the gap in the Giro sprint, but that is the way Bennati is and it would be wrong for me to change him. He is one of the good guys.
He has always had a soft spot for him even though the two have very different characters. Mario describes Bennati as his ‘cycling son’.
Benna has said elsewhere
that his friends started calling him “pantera” because of his dark complexion.
You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold
very cool, thanks!
LOL, yeah, Boonen, not so pretty in the sprint, by any means. That headbanging style, sheesh. Surprised he can see straight when he’s doing that. But he more than makes up for it on the cobbles.
Funny...after I read that I wasn't offended
because it is true. He does stomp on his bike but I find it sexy! ;-) I beleive that is part of the power. My friend in Belgium told me today that Tom still can’t put his foot in a cycling shoe :(
For some reason this reminds me of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader...

It also violates the First Rule of Shooting Basso
Thou shalt not hide the eyes.

are you kidding?
Basso has eyes that say “No, I did not give you the clap. Would these eyes lie to you?”
Much improved...

That comment made me snort before saw the picture! He certo has a very naughty glint in his eye.
Gibo looks really rather good. Di Luca slightly freaks me out though, sitting in that luxurious chair with nothing on.

I’m with Gav (as always), just point me in the right direction, Dani…
(PS, agree about the photo, it really is kinda creepy. He looks way better on tv, as do most of these guys. Only wish I knew how they look in person…)
The nudity + throne-like chair adds up to Caligula for me somehow.

Do you happen to have a little extra room in your luggage
for a fan of Italian cyclists?
I’ve been seriously thinking of going to Italy for a week or two in May for some years now, but I never get to the stage where I actually book the tickets or rent the apartment.
Have to admit,
I thought the idea of seeing them without their clothes on was more appealing to me than the actual pictures.
Agree with Gavia, the one of Gibo was best.
The upper body of a cyclist
is not typically something to get that excited about.

I don’t see anything wrong with that body! Mud or no mud ;-)
by cyclingdiva on Apr 24, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions
For me, it's not so much the mud and/or lack of subtlety
as it is that I think his chest looks both thin and rather soft—not surprising for a cyclist, but there are much better in the peloton.
Even so, I think with the proper attitude he could rock those pictures—unfortunately, he looks ill at ease, which doesn’t come across as sexy to me.

actually not always - some of the shots used in previous threads make it impossible to browse at work
I'd be in favor
of going for a “link only” on nsw shots in the hottitude – meaning if the dude’s got no clothes, we link only rather than paste in the photos.
what do you think? others?
I'm not sure I'd browse the hottitude threads at work.
Well, given that I work on my couch, sure, I would. But if I worked in a place where such things were frowned on, I might just wait until I got home.

it is definately a home based hobby…
If we start making rules for some pics and not others then we may as well just link all photos.. I don’t agree with links for certain pics, just my thoughts.. from Cyclingnews.com
He is cute, but I don’t know if that alone gives him a place on the Giro roster
Really OT, but I just have to post my happiness somewhere, and I'm hoping this is the right place...
I’ve just had a really good sports fan weekend: my all time favorite athlete won a quite important tournament for the fifth time in a row (tennis is actually my favorite sport, cycling is second) and one of my two favorite cyclistc won a major race (the absolute highlight of my weekend!)
And my other cycling favorite won a stage yesterday.
And as to why I’m posting in this thread; all my favorites look quite good, although that is not the reason why I’m their fan. They all go for it and fight till the end, even when they eventually lose.
Sorry for not having any pictures to explain my feelings.
Oh I quite understand amarone!
It lifts me unbelievably when my favourite sportspeople win things (and crushes me when things go badly-the flip side of the coin!). To have three things like this happen in one weekend is fabulous.
Thanks, Albertina!
btw, I don’t remember – is Andy one of your favourites? For some reason I get the picture of Benna in my head when I see you posting in hottitude (with a little bit of Valverde on the side) :)
Andy's not one of my big big favourites but I do like him and I'm super pleased for him!
Benna with a little bit of AV on the side is a pretty good assessment….there’s Boonen too of course ;-) So you’re a Nadal fan?
Yes, big time. Have been since I first saw him play in 2004.
I really love the way he plays, it’s just so relentless. And he seems like such a nice person too. Totally ruthless on court, but a sweet young man off court.
And he was just 17 when I first saw him play, so I could never think of him as hot although I do like the way he looks, especially on court.
Me, I've always been a Federer fan, ever since before he was famous.
When he’s on his game his play is a thing of beauty. Because I loved Federer, I never supported Nadal and hated to see Roger beaten by him. It’s been particularly painful to watch his recent decline, often at Nadal’s hands. It took me days to get over the Wimbledon final last year! But I have to say that now, I’m learning to love Nadal too. There is something irresistable about his tenacity, and you’re right, despite the on court persona he seems really modest.
what I love most about Rafa
is his winning mentality
and how he shows no frustration (or any kind of negative energy) at all
toughest guy on tour, mentally and physically
Totally understand, Albertina.
I have trouble liking Federer, but I do appreciate his talent. Btw, the first time I saw Rafa was a match in Miami Masters where this kid most people had never heard of, beat Federer in straight sets. I was just amazed. And next year when Rafa began the clay dominance I became hooked.
And I feel for you re Wimbledon, I was quite crushed the year before. But last year’s final I could watch dozens of times :-)
But isn’t there one Spanish tennis player whose looks you appreciate? Feli perhaps?
Oh yes, I believe the Spanish boys would win the Davis Cup for looks!
Feli is gorgeous :O~…………. Ferrer is acceptable too, and Ferrero. Oooo, and Tommy ;-)
I've never seen that picture of Robredo before, nice!
All of the Armada boys are my favourites and I really enjoy the real Davis Cup. But honestly, I do concentrate on the tennis and not on their looks.
Still, it doesn’t hurt that most of them look quite delicious ;-)
No kidding.
I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!
Dinner can be overrated. :-P
I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!
Congratulations....I was extremely excited for Andy.
Like Albertina said it is so rewarding when our favorites win and crazy how it can dampen our spirits when things go badly.
I think Andy is amazingly talented and love to watch him race.
And he figures prominently on my VDS team. I’d call him cute rather than hot, though—and yes, I know many of you disagree. But if he keeps winning me points, I may come around!
You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold
I'm with you in that he's cute, but not up on the hot scale.
For me, it might be the age thingy. I feel old but so many of the riders I like I find calling “kids”. Oh man.

This is exactly how I feel about Andy.
I like to watch him race, and yeah he is cute, but really too young for me to call him hot.

He’s born in Finland (and judging from a tweet, his Swedish is quite good), so Liquigas had almost an invasion of Finnish riders for a while.
Oh my, I've just fallen in love with Roger De Vlaeminck's sideburns.

You can have him as much as you like
But I remember the incident in Madrid 2005. Is he still out of the national team?

Hardly unique at the Worlds for a rider to support a teammate
or at the Olympics, for that matter—remember the Telekom sweep of the podium in Sydney?

Maybe not
But obviously British Cycling didn’t like it.

I was checking out google images for Kjell and wasn't entirely convinced
but he does look good on skis
note from gav
I did remove the teen planet linky. I also just learned that removing a comment, removes the replies. So, anyway, that’s where those three posts went.
In other news, it is quite fabulous that Gilbert will ride the Giro. More hottitude, more better.
As mentioned earlier, Glad Philippe is there....

If Germaine Greer ever got wind of this thread....
well I don’t know….but it would be interesting….and irritating, that much is certain.
Ugh that women!
I bumped into her in Newnham from time to time. I once blundered into a TV interview which was taking place on the landing near my room. She didn’t look amused….
Oh gosh yes!

Nothing wrong with Lovkvist

We can’t all prefer Italians—hottitude threads would woefully lack diversity!

Hmmm. Not majorly into the furry scene myself, but I promise not to judge.
We can all coexist peacefully, whether we like Italians, Northerners, or large plush mountain goats with striped socks on their horns.

Are you implying that Girbecco goes both ways?
Or when it comes to interspecies attraction, does gender even matter? Not having a clue makes me feel decidedly provincial.

they work for me
try hitting refresh, and if that doesn’t work, then I give up. But if Girbecco isn’t your type, you’re not missing much. :)
For me, Refresh doesn't work, but hitting Enter does.
Just a common hiccup with Katiek’s links—maybe she’s one of them weird Mac people or something.

Isn't it time to start a second Giro Hottitude Thread to really annoy certain parties?
Mon coeur appartient à les forçats de la route.
No no no, that honor should be all yours as one of the resident hottitude experts.

Maybe we could just have a Giro photos thread
that just might happen to include a lot of pics with an emphasis on hotitude as well as some other interesting photos that don’t fit into any other thread.
Hi there. itswells here...
I just thought I’d drop by the hottitude thread to toss this out there. When I’m 58, I hope I’m rolling like this…

O lactic acid, where is thy sting?
"All right, all right--Basso, you can have Block Haus, but I want Veusvius for Levi, capisce?
Let’s get Gibo’s stage out of the way early—Stage 4 work for you? And I’ll take the uphill finish in Bologna. Now, the time trials…"

Hmmmm...
My guess is Deignan, Gerrans, Gustov, Hunt, King, Konovalovas, Lloyd and Pauwels. And therefor the invisible on the left side belongs to Sastre.
