Tour de Romandie Prologue Race Report

It's hard work watching a prologue. So many things to do. First, I rode the course with Cadel. Note, in the video , we spoke in French because I don't speak Australian.

Star-divide

We were passed by the Vins de Morges car - and they were handing out wine (I love Switzerland!). Cadel decided to pass on the wine - so we said our goodbyes while I decided between a glass of red or white:

The Teams were all parked on the waterfront of beautiful Lac Léman (Lake Geneva).  The weather looked threatening but it cleared for the race.   I wish some of you were here to help me identify all the pros whizzing around.

I visited all the team HQs, but all the riders refused to be photographed while kissing me on the cheek. (How does Cycle Girl do it?)

Next I rushed off to  give a unicycle exhibition with a couple of clowns - (not a good idea after the wine).

By this time the Prologue had started, so I went off to watch the first few riders:

After 50 riders or so I realized I hadn't eaten, so I dashed off for some free Fondue.

Despite the second glass of wine, I remembered that I had another riding appointment and rode off to meet a friend:

Then the press started harassing me. No comment!

I could hear the Jerom Coppel fan club, so I cut the interviews short and went back to watch the race.  As an aside, the young French rider Coppel ALWAYS has a big fan club and his name was perhaps chalked on Alps roads last year more than any other rider.

I have no idea why my photos have switched to Black & White!

Time to support my two cycling partners of the day:

I love the Swiss Champion Jersey:

By now I was cold, but at least the cycle back to the car had nice views.  Wow, it's hard work watching a Prologue, I am tired now.

PS - I have photos of a ton of riders ..... but not the winner as I was changing camera batteries .... doh!

Thanks Will! You have a very pleasant life don't you?!

Lausanne is sooo lovely. I enjoyed watching earlier and reminiscing about last summer, and you’ve just reminded me of the fondu…oh my word how yummy!

I love the video

but aren’t they meant to have security and the like to stop outsiders just joining in? And nice for the Jerome Coppel fan club to bet some reward for all their efforts. I hope he does well this week.

in fact I video'd

the rest of the course (mainly pointing camera at the sky – I suck at this) and with 300 metres to go I braced myself for trouble as the police were blocking everyone, but I got next to two pros and pretended I belonged and the security just parted and let us through ;)

Cool!

That looks like such a fun day!

Free fondue and wine should really be a feature at all races.

And some wine.

We’d need a bottle of wine or several to go with that.

Does this work?

They gave me a gruyere cheese wheel keychain during my fondue feast

Seriously now... what the hell...

I go to ToC… and I get chalk… you go to ToR and you get wine and cheese. Something’s amiss…

Respect the Shit List; it respects you.

What a great day Will!

Too fun. I enjoyed my lunch break with getting to watch it but I must say I think I really would’ve preferred to have been there scoping it out with you. Thanks for sharing!!!

I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!

Get a film crew together,

It would be great to watch a film of your exploits at various races. Lot’s of Fun. Thanks Will.

You are looking more like Fabian every day ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to write this up for us.

hey Will what exactly does Evans respond to you?

I get you asking him if he’s going to win but can’t make out his response

by plinytheelder on Apr 29, 2009 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

I can't make out or remember the exact words

But yes, I asked if he was going to win and I think he said something to the effect of “no, it’s not really my sort of race/course”
