Haedo won
Levi still leads GC ahead of Peter Stetina.
Gina Grain won the women’s race. I believe Kristin Armstrong is still the race leader.
Alex Howes came in 2nd!
I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!
Just read on Velonews that Saxo will be at ToM
I’m not sure if Mizzou is prepared for a Jens! attack but we might find out.

Yes, exciting teams! Can't wait for roster announcements.
I wonder if Katusha would ever come to the states?
O/T?
Guess the cost of a speeding ticket for going +21 km/h (13 m/h) in a 50 zone in Switzerland.
Now quadruple your guess and your probably getting closer. Yikes! I have even been slowing on the bike in speed zones now.

I was going to guess around 500
Very particular about such things in Switzerland. Germany, too, as I understand it.
In Germany, they only care if it's an organized speed trap
They pop up every know and then when the polizei need to make their quota. Doing 95k in a 70k zone, got me a 70 euro ticket the first month I was back over here. What a nice welcome back gift!
If I just had one more gear, I...
Holy Crap is right. Wow.
No wonder why bikes are so popular.
I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!
460
and a tiny bit faster was license loss for a month
and not much faster is a # of days salary / jail.
basically it is called a replacement fo jail. "Do you want 10 days jail or wish to “optionally” pay 10 days salary? ) . Stories of 30,000 chf fines, etc (lots of porsches here)
I have been receiving treatment for radiation poison as radars are everywhere (it is illegal to have GPS program identify radar)
I received 3 tickets last week all from last summer and all at before 6am as I picked up friends for cycling events. I get excited before events!
;)
Foreigners, if the rental company tracks you down and if you ignore …. can be arrested and jailed on reentry (a story recently of guy jailed for non-payment from years ago).
Rant over ;) generally I love really Switzerland!

PS - my wife is 1000 times wiser than me
“just drive slower” - yep

The only sane response
Driving 71 km/h in a 50 km/h zone is not good. Sorry to be humourless about it.
agreed
it takes concentration though …. to never speed … radar everywhere … changing speed limits etc.
I am in general a VERY slow driver (like my cycling)
I am stressed ;)

cruise control
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
Cruise control doesn't really work over here
Too many hills and not many automatic cars.
If I just had one more gear, I...
They've never been popular in Europe
For a real extreme example, I once knew someone who lived in Corfu but had to take his car to Athens to get it serviced. Unfortunately he had spent most of his working life in America and had all but forgotten how to change gears by himself.
I would be in jail in less than a day
a rental truck? Oh my the Swiss are so much more tricky than the Germans, not the brightest of policemen there.
In Chauncey we trust!
oops, read truck for some reason
luckily they don’t have rental trucks for under cover duties.that would be a bit extreme.

Um
you have a plan to bust outta there? I’m guessing…

What about the Giro?
if CTV doesn’t get the rights than I’ll need to find a good quality stream some place, nothing better than TV, maybe I’ll have to get a 3 week sentence, how much for steeling a Rolex?

for Giro
to be safe
you should speed in the Italian part of Switzerland (Ticino, tessin)
(and wear a Pantani headband)

"Girbecco Made Me Do It" ?
I can’t see this going well.
"I get paid to hurt other people. How good is that? How good is that?
I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good." Jens!
Girbecco can say hello to my little friend

He also says
I wish Fränk was here.
Oh my, I've just fallen in love with Roger De Vlaeminck's sideburns.

I will pay 1000 Swiss Francs
to whomever brings me the head of Girbecco. No questions asked. Thank you.
More Muur...
clarification
is that each?
"I get paid to hurt other people. How good is that? How good is that?
I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good." Jens!
Talking about Gila. It is in New Mexico right? What about those travel restrictions.
Do you think we can have a scenario where riders coming from a “risky” area could be prevented from travelling (or racing) in let say… 10 days from now?
Are you hoping for that?
I know the Italians are by the way Levi has been riding!
If I just had one more gear, I...
At the moment, zero confirmed cases of swine flu in New Mexico
so no need for travel restrictions.
You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold
Ah the swine flu, the horrible pandemic that will eventually kill all of us on this planet
and create a bunch of brain eating zombies, oh the horror, the apocalypse is coming, we are all doomed!!!!!! But we remind you we don’t want you to panic.
-all the news media in the US.

the harbinger of doom

Oh Lyne. Priceless. :-)
I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!
And for a little teaser or two
the Giro team presentation will be on 7th of May outside the Palazzo Ducale in St Mark’s Square. At the end of this, the eight previous GT winners who are riding will be taken by boat to the Arsenal for a press conference. No mention of singing gondoliers. Yet. I wonder if any of them will wear their dresses?
And a couple of figures. 870 journos have signed up to follow the Giro, as opposed to 582 last year. Maybe Chris should have tried to auction our own Tifosa for the month. Sold for 200 snuggies to …… And RCS say that 300,000 in the US have already signed up to follow the web coverage. So at what point do they put it on proper TV?
300,000 in the US signed up for web coverage???
which web coverage? on CTV, where they still don’t actually list confirmed Giro coverage at all?
-the Gold package link from the main page only says “Premium, UCI, Vuelta A Espana” but no Giro, yet it talks about “the 2008 calendar” … so maybe it hasn’t been updated for 2009?
-but the Gold package link I pulled up on a site search says, as someone posted a few days ago (the search function gives this link a date of April 2008, yet the LBL date matches 2009 – if this is the 2009 link, then why could I only find it by a search rather than it being the most prominent at the front)
Please note that the internet rights for the Giro d’Italia are still under negotiation with the rights owners. We are working as swiftly as possible to confirm this event and hope to bring you confirmation in the very near future.
Because of this, we advise prospective customers interested in the current live races (and the races so far this year) to invest in the Premium package. This purchase will be refunded if you choose to upgrade to a Gold or Silver subscription at a later date (NB no later than May 21st). In the event that we are unable to carry the Giro d’Italia we will arrange compensation for Gold North America and Italian Pro Cycling package subscribers.
and of course, their race calendar still says “Coverage TBC” and times are all “TBA” for the Giro. I seem to recall Harold pointing out that just meant the times weren’t confirmed, but seeing the conflicting info elsewhere on the site I’d certainly be thinking that their coverage isn’t confirmed.
Stuffed Girbecco?
Just decided my two year old needs a stuffed Girbecco, so I googled “Girbecco toy.” First search result? Right here.
Bravo!
Viva la Lactique
Ha!
For anyone vaguely interested, but not enough to go search, here’s the link to the official Giro site, where you actually can buy your very own Girobecco.
If only they had a Girobecco snuggie…
You need to do this race two or three times before you can win, despite what Cunego showed us last year: winning in his first try--Frank Schleck, on Amstel Gold
still
given that there is a subsantial bounty out for his head, it’s still a bargain.
"I get paid to hurt other people. How good is that? How good is that?
I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good." Jens!
true
but I’d buy it for my son, not the bounty. He hasn’t seen any Star Wars movies yet, and I don’t think I can explain the concept of “bounty hunter” to a two yr old.
Viva la Lactique
Who is zirbecco?
Never mind… Look, before this gets out of hand, perhaps I should clarify that I am simply asking for the head of the Girbecco mascot costume. I’m not advocating decapitation of toys here, people. That would be sick and wrong. But, if someone does manage to get ahold of an actual Ibex with painted horns who is wearing a pink jersey and some tires, then cut that fucker’s head off pronto and send me the carcass. I will roast it and serve it with white beans, a nice tomato and bread salad, and a fine Barolo. You veggies can skip the goat course.
More Muur...
I hadn't thought of it that way
but that does indeed make good sense. I was thinking of it more from an affordability angle since paying out the bounty is going to leave me a little light in the wallet, and Brunello’s are so pricey. But both would do nicely. And you veggies might want to get a nice white, perhaps a Pinot Grigio
More Muur...
A Girbecco toy? Have we not learned from past history that might not be a good idea?

In Chauncey we trust!
According to Astana's twitter
Levi wins the Gila TT with a course record time of 32:59, followed by Tom Zirbell at 33:52, Lance at 34:22 and Rory Sutherland at 34:55.
