Makes lots of sense to me
I’ve thought for years now that until pro cycling gets a strong union, it will remain a small, minor sport. A string union is needed to work with the race organizers on the courses and the UCI and team managements for doping and other organizational issues. The sport needs the riders’ insights to succeed.

They are the only pro athletes that I can think of that do not have a strong union. They have no power, no one working in their best interest.
