My Giro total has scaled the heights of 231.

But at least I got 40 at Catalunya today…..I must be thankful for small mercies.

I got all of 10 points today.

Might be the beginning of my Giro slide. But 594 there so far, which is better than I hoped. Nothing yet in Catalunya…

Incidentally, Dekker's latest message on his website gets translated "I feel pretty"

Honey, I agree. But you’ve got to get me some points, or your new career starts soon.

English (Google-translated):

19-05-2009 – The first day is out! Three climbs! I feel pretty … Think a good match for something intense to do! After many hours of the last few weeks … Ciao TD!

Dutch:

De eerste dag zit erop! Drie klimmetjes! Voelde mij redelijk…Denk een goede wedstrijd om weer wat intensiefs te doen! Na de vele uren van de afgelopen weken…Ciao TD!

Also, not to be critical, but does the Dutch language include any punctuation besides ellipses and exclamation points? (Okay, I’m getting just a tad grumpy with the young man.)

Dekker isn't the sharpest tool in the shed

lol, yes, very pretty.

But he finished in the group which came in a minute back today, which is rather bad for someone with his supposed talent……he must be sailing very close to the wind now. Perhaps you should call him in for an urgent talk?

Dekker

Is pretty bad in jostling for position in the bunch. Generally prefers to hang in the back of the bunch. He could have been to far behind a gap opening due to the driving of GCE. (It’s getting harder and harder to come up with excuses for the guy :-). On the other hand, his first race after a break, can’t be too harsh on him)

Does anyone know if this has been corrected yet?

If not, 40 teams are going to hate me…

There’s a Martin mix up in the Post-Ardennes Standings spreadsheet—Daniel Martin was given Tony Martin’s 40 points from Critierium International. The 10 points Daniel got today should be his first of the season.

he was on my original team right up to the point that we started to hear that he wouldn’t be invited to the Ardennes classics. No way he gets more than 850 in the Giro I thought.

+115 - Thanks Cav & Davis

Now Levi and Roger need to do well over the rest of the way.

If your listening Mick, tomorrow would be a good day to attack and try and take back some time from everyone.

Levi, you need to make a deal with Sastre to tag team Menchov.

Well, Cav's officially out now.

Confirmed in CW.

So 366 final for him for this race—59 points more than last year’s Giro. His 881 total now slots him in as 4th place top VDS scorer after Hushovd, Haussler, and Boonen, and is 288 points more than he had last year at this time.

Chapeau, Cav. See you in the Tour de Suisse!

Giro: End of Week 2

So far, 3496 points have been awarded in the Giro. My Columbia-heavy team has snagged 794 of them, or 22.7%. But Cav and Renshaw are gone now, and so is Cameron Meyer (who is still without points for the season).

That leaves me 4 riders: Thomas Lovkvist, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Ben Swift, and Philippe Gilbert. Lovkvist might hold onto the white jersey to the end, but is slipping down the GC classification (currently 11th) so unless he rallies in the last week could be out of the GC points entirely. Still some points possible in the last sprint stage—or if Gilbert jumps into a break and stays away, but I think my glory days are over (as far as the Giro goes, anyway).

Catalunya: my team’s bad luck streak in Spanish stage races continues. Murcia, Castilla y Leon, Pais Vasco, Catalunya: 4305 points awarded to date. Team Red Shorts has won 35 of them—eight-tenths of one percent. No points from the Spanish one-day races, either—Spain officially hates me.

Long day--bad grammar. That's the way it works.--Lance Armstrong

the Flag Runners

have not yet cracked 300 in this Giro, but with the help of Mr. Gerrans today, we’ve managed to claw our way up to 286. there are so many riders in the points that i almost picked that my b-team total is 841 – these are the guys i actually had on my roster at some point but ended up dropping. once again, grasshopper, too much equivocating can lead to mediocrity…

Thanks as always for the continuing updates

When having a Charlie Epps moment some other numbers came off the giro scoreboard so far (subject to wild change when GC factored in)

3496 points in total

Columbia – 939 (26.8%)
LPR – 874 (25%)
Over half available points between them.
Three teams yet to score – Milram, Bweeg and Lotto.

by andrewp on May 23, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

Wow. I knew those teams were doing well, but it's good to see numbers confirming it.

And thanks for the reminder—I’ve been thinking about adding a teams column to my spreadsheet, to make it easier to see how various teams are doing. Will get on it.
