Cav winning
is like the sun coming up in the morning… totally expected yet still cool to watch
More Muur...
results like this are the kind of things that make for personnel
trimming for ALL the teams without any results stage-win-wise, etc.
lets chat about the TT tommorrow!
who are we feeling for the win AND who will grab the most GC advantage!?!?
11 stages so far
9 stages won by LPR or Columbia
2 stages – everyone else.
Some bods in the RAI studio are whingeing about Tyler
they reckon that he bumped porr Alessandro off Cav’s wheel

he's certainly been getting bumped around enough
’bout time he started giving some back.
"I get paid to hurt other people. How good is that? How good is that?
I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good." Jens!
It looked normal on the move too
Others defended Farrar, I was just surprised that anyone thought it was unusual. Cav saw nothing, it was all behind him
Pettachi bumped him off in stage 2
so I dont know what they are beyatching about
Petacchi spoke about this later
“If what happened to me had happened to Cipollini, things would have been different. There isn’t much respect any more. Farrar didn’t behave properly.”
The problem happened a few seconds to the capture above. Another rider was drifting back (black and white striped shorts) , Farrar went to the right of him and came back to fight with Allan Davis for Cav’s wheel, which boxed Petacchi in and forced him to brake.

Looks to me like what happens in sprints, and as Cassani noted, if Ermeti hadn’t made a silly attempt to escape for the win at 2k to go he could have been there to give a leadout of sorts.
The problem with Petacchi's crying . . .
. . . is that it is about 2nd place. Nobody was coming around King Cav today.

nice interview of Cavendish on RAI
Petacchi was fighting for Cavendish’s wheel with Farrar….said the interviewer…Cavendish said he did not notice anything as that all happened behind him and that he was only focused on winning
oooohhh and now interviewing Petacchi
I don't know if he can keep it tomorrow.
He’s got time, but I’m not sure if it’s enough.
I’m hoping he kicks it tomorrow and we’re done, but even if he loses it tomorrow, he’s still got some hills to take it back.
I like him on Blockhaus.

does zabriskie stand a chance
or far too technical for him?
The center of the bottom bracket is the center of the universe.
Piva (Columbia Team Manager) at Processo
Levi is the main favourite for tomorrow, but I think Di Luca will hang and hold the jersey since is not a flat ITT. We hope Rogers can do well
Full results
Here. I notice that Zabriskie and Pate came in 11.31 behind. Some preparation for tomorrow perhaps.
Bork, bork, bork!
One definite, maybe another
The next to the last stage is a definite sprint. Stage 18 is quite hilly but overall downhill so there might be a sprint. Maybe.
Di Luca had nearly a 100 last time i saw
So hopefully Cav can’t make that up..
I think i’m the only British person who doesn’t want to kiss his feet sometimes :(
I support the Spanish Armada.
Me too.
I actually quite like him nowadays but he’s not my favourite rider or anything!
Adrenalina Italiana!
Seems to me that's actually the general British reaction to Cav.
(amongst that small minority of people who even know who he is, that is).
Most Brits i have come across
either haven’t heard of him or worship him.
I can admire and respect that he is a tremendous sprinter but i wonder if you stuck him in the position McEwen found himself in last year’s TDF (no leadout men etc) would he still prevail? Because he has some awesome guys sacrificing themselves for him. And also i’m not too keen on full on domination, i like variation in results rather than ohh it’s a bunch sprint, i can already fill in Cav as the winner then…
And yes he may be the best Brit we’ve had in a while but he doesn’t represent us very well with his comments. I don’t necessarily want him to not speak out at all but perhaps phrase stuff better and be slightly more respectful.
I support the Spanish Armada.
The Columbia train is certainly not to be messed with
& Cavendish was spot on in Milan when he said it was extraordinary to have a guy wearing the ciclamina jersey (i.e. Boasson Hagen) leading out for him.
But if you remember, for instance, the stage into Nîmes in the Tour last year, when Cav got completely isolated & boxed in, coming round the outside to win, well, you could argue that was a as McEwen-esque a victory as you could possibly wish for.
As for dominance, well, Petacchi & Farrar have beaten him this year. Possibly why he was dissing Farrar this afternoon. As for his mouth, on the one hand I do wish sometimes he’d shut the hell up (this afternoon, for instance) but on the other, thank god at least someone has survived the inevitable pre-season media training session unscathed.
Did that sound like... I wish everyone would behave the way I want them to behave.
I for one hope that Cav keeps telling it like he sees it.
For those who do not twit
Levi Leipheimer is talking about crashing today. He said he went over the bars after hitting a water bottle. “A lot of skin” lost.
l’ouch.
Supremely bad timing, right before the ITT.
So who do we suspect of throwing the water bottle?
Long day--bad grammar. That's the way it works.--Lance Armstrong
Well there goes tomorrow
New projection for tomorrow – not a good day
Only takes back 1:30 from Diluca and loses 1:30 to Mechov and 1 :00 to Rogers
This totally sucks! As I wanted Levi to get his GT win here as it was his best chance for it.
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
What a crappy day for Levi
To lose Horner, and then crash on the day before the key stage.
"I get paid to hurt other people. How good is that? How good is that?
I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good." Jens!
. . . because some moron couldn't be bothered to toss his bottle clear of the road! Argh!

Stuff like this happens all the time in the feed station
Levi should have gone through at the front and on the other side of the road. Let someone else pick his lunch up. Isn’t that what Texans are for?
He had to chase back twice
we saw him swap his bike for the spare, but by the end of the stage he was back on his original machine.
Anybody found how much time Di Luca reckoned he would lose in the TT?
In my vague recollection:
2 minutes to Leipheimer
1:30 to Menchov
nothing to Sastre or Basso
....still think DiLuca should be worried about Sastre....
He has been looking stronger each day and I do think he will gain some time on DiLuca tomorrow. Sastre can descend….and I looks like he is keeping it together until week 3.
Sastre did look great, I thought
I think tomorrow suits Menchov better and he’s closer on time to Diluca. But in the long run, I tend to like Sastre’s chances better, despite Menchov’s win on the early mountain stage.
Bought a Gazzetta today, first one in years
and it’s a misprint! Inside cover is blank so it has only half of yesterday’s story. Darn.
Where did you buy it?
I’ve looked in New York, Dallas, San Fran, etc. Can’t seem to find ’em for sale in the US.
HELP!

Thanks Jimbo - our euro-challenged friend
Just for that I’m digging up the Google-map and moving you back up north among the yokels.

i miss a stage
and cav wins, dammit. i thought petacchi would take this one, they seemed to have been alternating so far.
did anyone abandon today? i haven’t the energy to read through all the comments, my brain has been turned to soup by a 3-hour exam..

Update on Vdv
The breaks were found with additional imaging tests which uncovered the fractures on three “spinous processes” – the attachment point for muscles and ligaments in the back. Tests also revealed a cracked pelvis in addition to the two broken ribs which were revealed the day of the crash.
Sounds like he was trying to one up DZ

There goes July - that sucks.
"I didn't look for him and I didn't see him. If you base your race on another rider, most of the time you lose."
Tom Boonen
So how would he stack up in the Vealta?
Or will they just send him to Missouri as defending champ and call it a year?
Unfortunately, after last year’s huge results I was afraid he’d have a year like this. Otherwise he would have been on my VDS team.

Dumb Question of the Day
Why is Eusktael Euskardi Team not at Giro???
Alpe Du Huez is my favorite place on earth!!!!!!
Their squad just isn't big enough..
They said they would rather the place went to another team because they don’t have the riders to put over there and would rather concentrate on the TDF and of course the Vuelta which is more home turf. Reduced size squad this year.
And so that’s mostly why Xacebeo Galicia are there, organisers called them their answer to the Euski boys :)
I support the Spanish Armada.
same thing
with cofidis and fdjeux…they’re protour, but just a bit small. especially cofidis. they were originally planning on downsizing weren’t they? i liked you points about cav by the way. he gives good quote but he’s no boardman.
'you want to say your feelings and if you let your emotions pour out it shows how much the sport means to you. and cycling means everything to me.'- mark cavendish
Also, their fans (apart from me!) and sponsors aren't the least bit interested in anything which happens in Italy.
It’s the third most important of the grand tours for them for sure. Last year they looked like they wanted to be anywhere else. They look like they’re hitting Catalunya pretty well instead…two in the top 4 and top of the teams table at the mo. If Zubeldia hadn’t jumped ship after all these years they’d have 3 in the top 4.
Adrenalina Italiana!
Yeah...i think they have slightly?
Not too sure there. I’m ok with the smaller French teams but i’m not as knowledgable about them as the Spanish teams etc.
And cheers, i get a lot of stick for not praising Cav enough or not getting excited when he wins, but i’m not an outright hater, it’s always good to see a Brit winning, i just can’t buy into the loving thing, don’t like his attitude. Guess at least he usually credits the team in his wins/quotes but he’s definitely no Boardy.
I support the Spanish Armada.
thank you
It took me a while to figure out what was missing from the coverage…….Strange I don’t think anybody has mentioned it anywhere…..
Alpe Du Huez is my favorite place on earth!!!!!!
i guess
if they had shown, they would be acting like the bweegs are (voeckler aside), and treat it as a training ride. plus most of the pro continental teams have been pretty good value so far…
'you want to say your feelings and if you let your emotions pour out it shows how much the sport means to you. and cycling means everything to me.'- mark cavendish
Yes, both Cofidis and FDJ
shrank their rosters some, and didn’t really have enough team to do all three grand tours. They’ll save it for France. Bbox has made it into a lot of early breaks. They just don’t survive ;-)
Pozzato crashed somewhere I didn't understand
then got a puncture on the way down from the Turchino
It was in the run-in to the Turchino, I think
He said it wasn’t too bad – Gatto crashed ahead of him, and he sorta played smash the sprinter.
