Block Haus Day ... LIVE!!

Giro-live-mount_mediumIt's all on the line as the peloton heads uphill... a long, slogging way. It needs no further introduction so don't look for one here. My prediction: Menchov wins the stage, along with the whole calzone. Since I'm always wrong, this should make the next several stages very exciting. Enjoy!

In an interview with Sporza Bruyneel said that Armstrong could have been 5th, 6th or 7th if he hadn’t worked for others. Not a lot of love for LL apparently.

Yeah . . . .

cos of all that work he did towing LL through the ITT meant that he was so tired he could only finish 13th. I think Johan is having a laugh. Probably at Levi’s expense. I assume he meant overall rather than on Stage 16?

Austria is going crazy

They will hear (former) Rabo riders in the Humanplasma case. Rasmussen, Dekker, Boogerd and Menchov are asked to give their say about the case. The riders will participate on a voluntary basis.
Stupid how unconfirmed rumours can get people drawn into court.

Innuendo!

Some very clear indications that Rasmussen doped, though. His blood values raised in the middle of the Tour and there was the rumour of him testing positive for DynEPO.

Personally, I very much appreciate that they are taking action so quickly on this matter. With the seem of Humanplasma being Rabobank’s doping-hideout, there’s every reason to actually investigate this case.

The Humanplasma thing was laid aside for technical legal reasons

The journos clearly had the inside story from the investigating officers, they just didn’t have anyone to go on the record. With the major upheavals in Austria with a special commission and Matschiner naming everyone except their mothers those who have had anything at all to do with that lab is going to get dragged into this.

by Frinking on May 27, 2009 4:49 AM EDT reply actions

If the legs can not, then the head, Danilo Di Luca should have thought. With poker you can also win a Giro. But not if your opponent is Denis Menchov.

A few weeks ago the Russian multi-millionaire Roman Abramovich lost a yacht of a half million dollars during a game of poker. He immediately had trouble with his beautiful girlfriend. His Russian wife would rather see that Roman stops playing poker. Because it is addictive, but mostly because Roman simply can not poker.

No mow

Undoubtedly Danilo Di Luca knows the story. And maybe he is secretly hoping that the Russian in the pink jersey also can’t poker. That Denis Menchov overplayed his hand in another koninginnenrit of this Giro and would throw away his jersey like a boat of half million.

See him look, little Danilo, as the favorites ride along the 10km sign of the last ten kilometers. From the corner of his eyes he observe the face of the pink Russia right next to him. Half a minute is the difference between the two in the rankings. It seems so little. But Menchov face betrays nothing. No sign of fatigue or panic. No grimace on his face. No sweat drops on his forehead. The eyes of the Russian are hidden behind a mirror glasses, in which Di Luca just sees his own desperate gaze.

Di Luca accelerates. Menchov responds with playful ease and takes place in the wheel of the little Italian. Di Luca looks back and sees what he feared. Di Luca hold his legs. Menchov does the same. Sastre attacks. Di Luca looks at Menchov. He does nothing. Basso attacks. Di Luca looks at Menchov. He does nothing. Di Luca is trying to bluff. He cites(?) his shoulders. Acting as if he isn’t slightly interested in the little dots who in the horizon disappear. But Menchov is bluffing back. As a piece of Siberia in Italy. Di Luca gets shivers over his back. After a minute of back and forth bluffing he can’t longer control himself. He attacks with everything he has. All his aces are on the table. After hundred meters, he looks around. Right in the pokerface of Menchov, who not even seems to gasp.

Lost Case

There, a mile or five from the top, Di Luca throw the towel. There is still a week to go, but Di Luca is dedicated down that he will not win the Giro. Poker against a piece of Siberian pink with a royal flush in his legs is a lost case. Dutifully Di Luca put himself ahead and he pilot Menchov in a seat up. Sastre can just stay out the grip of the two, Basso is taken over just in sight of the finish. Menchov sets just up to humiliate Di Luca. External unaffected he drive over the line – lips together, chin up and just focus of the reflective glasses on the horizon. Pokerface Denis Menchov is in. With regards to the girlfriend of Abramovich.

Belgium: Greg Van Avermaet was in a group of 9 that got a gap for a brief time, then were pulled back. Lotto says this race is of great importance to them.

Bavaria: Jonas Schmeiser (TMH) and Martin Reimer (CER) have considerable gap—7:15 most recent report. No update for about half an hour, though—ticker just came back to say they’ve had internet problems.
