Vesuvio

I know there has been a lot of downplaying of Vesuvio...I think it's misplaced. It's a tough climb, it should last over 30 minutes of solid climbing, and those gradients you've looked at are a bit misleading. My little computer read 10+ a lot more than the average gradient gives credit for...especially over the first half of the climb.

I wrote a preview of the climb over on PEZ after we rode it back in April...

Check it out, HERE!

About the garbage

“We hadn’t seen a car in quite sometime, and yet the road was absolutely jam-packed with garbage.”

Here’s an article with som background. And Roberto Saviano writes about the problem in Gomorrah.

Insane

Thanks for the link. I forgot to change that in my article from the last time I posted it. I had at least five different people send in links to stuff on the Naples garbage crisis – this was the best article I’ve read so far though. I had no idea while we were there, but it makes so much more sense now. It borders on disgusting. It’s a real shame that such a beautiful place should be so covered in refuse. I have no desire to go back there…the climb was great though!

Yep, that ramp makes my legs hurt just looking at it!

Super Stuff Jered, thanks! Really looking forward to this stage…

Thanks!

I made a little mistake though…the damn stage isn’t today! I jumped the gun. I totally forgot about the real Stage 18. Ah well, guess we can get the chatter started about Vesuvio a little earlier now.

Haha! I didn't even notice that!

There’s not really much to talk about today so no harm in discussing tomorrow intstead :-)

Excited!

I’ve been excited about this stage ever since I read your write up a couple weeks ago!

a Columbia rider is clearly going to win this stage...

…I mean, one of those sculptures (the one that made Jared smile) is a replica of the Columbia team jersey!

No down-playing from me

This is a hard stage all the way around.
