Actually...
… it’s a Bristlecone Pine Tree named “Methuselah” and it exists in the White Mountains east of Mt. Whitney. I’ve been there and must have seen it in the Grove of Ancients, although that particular tree is unmarked for conservation purposes.

yeah, all these coastlines are beautiful in different ways
but as i get older and my homing instinct for the old country grows stronger, Italy looks pretty fine…
i'm from the UK
with connections to Ireland (the Republic), but it’s an easy hop to Europe and i miss old buildings and history and cosmopolitan living and my roots and stuff – it’s the total package

yes, but wartime pulled people together in some ways
afterwards the people were exhausted and the economy was flat. it was hard to find a decent place to live let alone make a decent start in life. my parents’ first cold water flat in London still had a whole in the roof from bombing making an open-air kitchen. when my mother received chocolate from Germany from a university friend that she couldn’t get because they were still rationed in Britain, that was a bit of a tipping point. funny what pushes people to make big decisions…
