Giro d'Italia Stage 1 TTT... LIVE!

And if the Giro is penal servitude, it is also great adventure, a game of kings; it is also war, an outing in the country, an exam, madness, all those things that greatly remind us of our youth. And so I ask you: You, the racers, if someone gives you a purse full of millions, saying to you, "forget it, here is the money, just give up and stay safely at home, no mud, no cramps," what would you reply?

- Dino Buzzati (thanks NRS5000!)

Oh, that's nice!

If you're not laughing, you're crying in the Giro. Every team leaves [for the start] hours before the race starts, because you never know. Maybe they decided to strike on the road today. Maybe somebody decided not to come to work that day. Maybe the signs to the race are backwards.--Christian Vande Velde

Quote of the day

Gianni Savvio, manager of Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli has picked up a new sponsor, Sigma. But as he said to CN “We’ve got no more space for new sponsors on our jerseys”

by Monty. on May 9, 2009 5:01 AM EDT reply actions

This headline at CN baffled my brain just now:

“Sastre targets missing Giro podium”…..huh? You mean Sastre is going to try and miss the podium on purpose?! But no, a closer reading reveals that this podium is ‘missing’ as it’s the only grand tour podium Sastre has never reached. Talk about confusing headlines…!

Evening folks! And two questions-

1) How are we at >40 comments when the action is still 3-4 hours away? Scary stuff.

2) I am staying at my Mum’s, ‘cat-sitting’, at the moment. Live streamage ain’t gonna happen here (old machine, crap ISP). My place is only a 10 minute drive away… but am I really gonna drag my tired arse out into the cold* at midnight to drive home and play ‘live stream lottery’…? I am kind of torn about this :-(

*13C/55F. Yes, in my world that qualifies as ‘cold’. …and it will be even colder at midnight ;-)

I want racing video.

If we chant it collectively, think it’ll happen?

I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!

You Garmin-people are all the same

dissing the Giro by only caring about the TTT. There are 20 more stages you know. Don’t you care about those, huh?

There's more than 1 stage?

I absolutely care about them.

BUT, they are not being run TODAY. The TTT is and my boy C is going to rock! :-P

I would say they are going all out, whoever is at the line, is at the line.

And I am okay with that. Last year was amazingly special. :-)

What we are all wondering...

Who will be this year’s Podium Girls? Can they possibly beat THAT one from last year? You know who I’m talking about…

will there be on demand replay of this later on Universal Sports? or do you have to watch live to see it at all?

by Lili on May 9, 2009 9:21 AM EDT reply actions

good morning all

I just got in from my morning ride, and I thought I’d missed the race, but I am correct in assuming that all I missed was Boonen news? Poor bastard.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
