Nevada City Bicycle Classic LIVE Thread

SacBee.Com reports that NevadaCountyTV.Org will be streaming the Nevada City Bicycle Classic live starting at 4:45 pm pacific time on Sunday.

Click on "Watch NCTV Now" for live player.

"The inclusion of Lance made it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Gilbert Dominguez, owner of TouchDown Productions. "We are a 'go' for this event."
While there won't be helicopters and motorcycles with onboard photographers following the bicyclists, Dominguez said that the live production will give viewers a flavor of the start, finish and the pedal down Broad Street. -Gilbert Dominguez, owner of TouchDown Productions.

Got a laugh out of that second quote. As if they have the budget for helicopter shots. I was planning to go but getting in and out of Nevada City is not easy and there's very little parking. Crowds are expected to be huge due to the Lance factor. I have little patience for crowds and traffic. If I go I'll certainly take pictures and report back to the PdC.

Updated: Live video up now.

I was talking to a local Junior Cat 2 racer here in Davis yesterday,

a crit specialist. His dad told him he’d pay the race fee if the junior racer could stay in the race for 5 laps. Needless to say, he was taking it relatively easy on the 60 mile group ride yesterday.

In addition to live streaming...

http://www.cyclingfans.com put up a nice collection of race information, interesting articles, videos, etc. Some of the local video reports are pretty funny! :-)

Cool tidbit from cyclingfans
Media interest is of course very high, local media are particularly excited and CNN, ESPN, ESPN 2, Fox News, etc. are in town. 12 satellite trucks! If all goes well, this should help Nevada City’s chances of getting included in the Amgen Tour of California.

Remember...

In the world of pro cycling, if it seems too hard to believe, it probably is.

Hey you!!!

Totally off topic… you should see how tan Dave has become from all the races this year already. ha ha. :-)

I love C, not because he rocks as a cyclist, but because deep down he's a band geek! LOL!

Cancer advocate?

isn’t that like saying Lance loves cancer? That announcer sure could have done better.

Go BJM!

That’s all I got :-)

Am I right that Lemond won the pro race at Nevada City as a junior? Eh, maybe I dreamed that bit of trivia.

by Jen See on Jun 21, 2009 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

3 in a row

he won the p/1/2 in 1979 as a jr. 1980 as 1st year senior riding for Avocet. 1981 riding for Renault.

and i’m not surprised you knew that ;-)

They said it is a 90 minute race with no set amount of laps. The officials decide when to make it 5 laps remaining to get it at 90 minutes.

by adammoney on Jun 21, 2009 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually we time the laps to start

and then once we have established lap times we go to laps to work to the time of the race. So at races, you will first see the lap counters counting up in time, and then once laps are calculated, you’ll see it come down by laps.

“playing a drinking game. every time the race announcer says Lance take a drink”

by steph- on Jun 21, 2009 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

Really, now, this is just getting funnier and funnier! I've just cracked open a Leffe to celebrate the

end of the weekend, and the end of the race. Who knows how entertaining this could be in the next 7 laps?? Nikki, open a bottle of wine and join me!!!

by Ruthann on Jun 21, 2009 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

If I do that, these pics are never going to go up!

But please take a drink for me! I am so there with you in spirit! Lots of racing, two days in the sun, finally a chance to use the new camera…. wine would not be such a good idea tonight. LOL!

This should not surprise anyone.

I would think he would not contest the finish just get his name out there and let the domestic guys win. I of course could be wrong as things like that rarely happen…. :-P

by nikki on Jun 21, 2009 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

let the domestic guy win?

no way, they didn’t do it at Gila, even when the guy was truly not getting paid by his team (Baldwin)

There was a little sarcasm in there, but again, this is Lance so flyers for sport would not apply.

I asked some 20-somethings at work

did they know what the Miracle on Ice was, and they responded they thought it was a figure skating show. And no, they weren’t kidding. One person actually said “you mean the movie? was that a real event?”

Now both US TdF champs have won there, pretty cool claim to fame.

I did.

That is, if US races count, the first comeback race Lance won was the Tour de Gruene time trial last november.

Thanks, Chris knows the address to send the snuggy to.

Should I start a part 2 thread? Or is Drew already on part 8?

by ursula on Jun 21, 2009 10:11 PM EDT reply actions

Also the announcers kept saying this was the last time Lance may ride in the US

uh no, he’s doing Leadville in August and I’m definitely getting out there to watch the race this year.

by Phil H. on Jun 21, 2009 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

Ah I didn't know that, interesting

he’s also scheduled to do the Tour of Ireland right? Or was that just silly rumorage?

so...

We were talking trivia here at the shack while consuming the wine.

Is Armstrong the oldest ever winner of Nevada City? I’m going to guess that Moninger was probably the oldest before today, but like, I could be making that up and stuff. I don’t think Tilford or Overend have won it any time recently.

Okay, back to the wine. This is a very funny thread. Wish I hadn’t had to head out during it and stuff.

Love this photo, all Ben needs is a whip. Does he look like a guy who struck gold or what? “Say Lance, pick it up a little buddy, we have a serious gap.”

It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
